Loved seeing my friends having so much fun. This family is amazing. Chad, Maggie, and the boys...thank you for letting us share your treasures! I love how these crystals have even more power then any others! Power of pure friendship and Joy! We love you guys. Bryan I'm so happy you were able to go and see for yourself! It's insanity!
The best vibes at DDD. One of my favorite parts was just everyone cheering each other on and celebrating each other’s finds. That and it’s practically a machine dig with Chad having a giant excavator on site to clear the overburden everyday so you start fresh. I’ve spent many days at other mines just clearing material from previous miners to get into good dirt or ledge.
Old disabled house bound dusty rusty rockhound here: DDD dirt boxes! Genius! As a kid, if Santa left me a Herkimer diamond paydirt box under the tree... i would've thought I died and went to heaven! Heck, I'm gonna order one for myself, too! Bryan... Great show today... Your enthusiasm is contagious! Matrix... you smooth movin' devil, you! Your the greatest co-star, ever!
I recently heard that crystals form down where a subducting plate meets the mantle. To have them come up and say “Hi” is a miracle. I love your videos Brian. You’re such a sweet person. ❤
I dont think they form as slowly or ss deep as any scientists claim. Some maybe, but not all. I have seen many come out of liquid saturated clays that once had deep waters above them.
DDD is the best. I had booked my dig way in advance for my birthday and it just so happen to work out it was when you visited! I had the best time digging alongside Bryan and the crew. It was like a Herkimer time machine for me. I’ve heard story’s from older miners about how dirt digging used to be like this in certain locations. Pulling out palmers by the bucket full. First time I experienced it myself. Definitely a bucket list dig experience.
@@silvergirl7810 I paid $250 for 4hrs on two occasions this year. My second trip I pulled out a 2 pound perfect Crystal that’s worth more alone then what I spent on the two trips. I’ll never sell it though. I enjoyed it so much I tipped the owner in Bison steaks. So the entry may be a lot to some, but you can’t compare DDD to the mines charging $10-20 entry it’s not even the same stratosphere, but everything is relative. I’d also take 4hrs at DDD over two days at the $100 entry mines. This is my hobby and passion. Some people like to golf and wouldn’t hesitate to spend $150 in a day doing that. So I say life’s short do what you love and make memories it’s worth every penny.
@@b9brutality Dozens of large golf ball or larger and several hundred smaller ones. My largest were over 2 pounds. For the me biggest attraction at this particular location is that you are dirt digging. Usually with Herkimers unless your checking tailing piles you need to move lots ledge and hammer and chisel your way into pockets. I’ve spent several days working 8hrs a day very hard labor to hit a pocket containing smaller gemmy crystals. So it’s a dream to take a Geo pick and work the dirt and watch the crystals just expose themselves.
Sorry I haven’t been around lately I’ve been pretty busy and back in December I had Covid and strep throat all in one which was horrible. I lost someone recently that I didn’t get a long with and one of my favorite TH-camrs so it’s been pretty tough.
They say these are only found in NY... But we find them on the other side of the planet. Exactly the same and even the geology of the location is.. Was looking for quartz digging videos to learn more how to dig them better .. no video looks quite the same except for herk videos
Dear lord I would literally fall out if I was to pull out one of those but since I live in NC I’ll never have the chance to and I definitely don’t have the money for one of those boxes I’ll keep enjoying your videos
I have dug a 90ct grey sapphire at the Cheroke mine in NC, and nice small purple sapphires at the Mason mine in NC. Theres plenty of great public digs in NC, just do it!!!
Wow!! This spot is new to me and seems great!! I went to their site..seems a little pricey tho...not sure why?? In a 4 hour dig what would the value of these herks be? Obviously it's for a supervised rock hounding experience, and I fully understand why the service is worth it. BUT, if my crew of 4 houndin' adults want to patronize this establishment $1,000 for 4 hours is totally unrealistic. We are experienced amateurs hounding for about 10yrs in the NJ/NY/PA area and some of the pay sites are totally worth the cost of admission...$250 a person just seems like a tourist trap. NO DISRESPECT INTENDED. I'm sure the owners know what they have and their prices are what they should be, just unattainable for a lot of people. UNLESS there is a reason why IT ISNT overpriced?!?!? Would love some more inside info/opinion about this.🍻💎💎💎
I understand where you’re coming from and actually they are having to go up on their price next year because for the price they have said people are getting way way more than they’re paying for like 10 times the amount sometimes, the site is probably the best site I’ve seen for getting tons of herks out. He may even not open up next year because of the unbalancing and what people paying what they take out. If this site in four hours you want to find more herks you find all year going to other places if you went every day . It’s kind of a wild place. I found three to $4000 worth of herks in just that short amount of time. So I think at this point the owners, not sure what to do, he’s going to focus on the boxes right now that you seen in the end.
@@TheCrystalCollector Thanks for the reply... Well, that all makes sense and if thems is the facts then, yeah...totally worth it🤣 love the content keep up the good work my friend!! I will definitely look into this place...about 3.5 hrs from me but that ain't enuff to keep me from a good dig!! 💪💪💪💎💎💎🍻
Price out machine digs at other Herkimer mines and $250 is a giveaway. (Many of those machine digs also don’t guarantee anything or they cap you at the amount found) You’re practically getting a machine dig here with Chad having a large excavator on site to clear the overburden and piles from past miners. So you’re not wasting anytime here you get right into it and Chad makes sure you leave happy.
Hi there. I am looking to go do some rock hounding to find things like amethyst, agates, geodes, just all kinds of fun crystals. I am hoping to do it during Christmas time, but I am not sure where there is to go. I live in FL and was wondering if you knew any places where I could go, would N.Carolina be a great place?
OK what happened to you gonna tell me how I could get Herkimer dirt with crystals in it shipped to my house did they run out or is it because there’s snow?
Yeah, but i bet its 50-80 bucks just to ship that big box. Especially if its getting shipped to canada. I shipped a box to canada that was smaller, and under a lb and it was still 25 dollars lol
Hence the $488 dollar admission price 👎🏽. $250 for 4 hours Unless you collect more than that in value then it goes up. I don't think you have to pay to keep what you find at KOA, and you need a lot of luck to find the real good stuff, but its for fun, its just quartz crystals at the end of the day. Excited to make my first trip down there. I'm tired of collecting Labradorite at home lol. Would love to go to this amazing place but too expensive 😞
@@mattgohlke8216 I just atayed at an Air BNB like 20 miles away, so no camp grounds. We spent like 6 hours at the herkimer mines next to the KOA and like 4 at the KOA (paying separate admission) and we did pretty well I think, If you know how to look for the stuff, you do pretty good... or I was lucky at both spots, not sure.
Yes, these are all Herkimer diamonds, Herkimer ‘s coming several shapes and sizes and colors and variations. They all come from the same location nearHerkimer New York.
Why did they call it Herkimer Diamond? Are they expensive? Does it categorize like those expensive diamonds? How do yhey compare them when it comes to carats clarity and cut? And do they read "diamond " on the diamond tester?
Those are some beautiful crystals. 😍 Love the golden color.
Thanks for the video, sir.
It's like those crystals captured a bit of the sun and is showing off. Beautiful colors
