Great review, having tested one Today I agree. And I do think there is space for a car that is clearly confort oriented and which by it’s very nature encourage calm driving. Also I like the idea of driving a car with an unpretentious badge. Currently I drive a Lexus but if I compare with an NX450h+, it offers as much space and confort and surely will be less reliable and also less punchy but still punchy enough and it is 1/3 cheaper than the said Lexus. One thing that is really lagging is no option available for a good sound system, I tested both the standard kit and the (cheap) Hifi option but none is really good. The Hifi option brings more bass, but then the dashboard reasonnances comes into play, and in both case the mid range lack definition- it’s ok for the price as really cheap but not for me.

who? people that prefer comfort over the "sportiness", because they are aware that they'll really rarely push their car to the limit on some back or mountain road (and most likely never even drive past Nürburgring, let alone on it). and for people/families that need a decent amount of space, but would rather drive in comfort of a large sedan than in a van or larger SUV... and for people that simply don't want dull "boxes" on wheels (wasn't meant "german exclusively")... I for example (even though I like dynamic and "involved" driving) fit in all three categories) and have recently changed P5008 Mk2 for P508 Mk2
I really don't see the point of the plug-in hybrids. Significantly extra money for questionable benefit, other than BIK, and still have to pay to enter central London, and can''t enter an electric car zone. And I doubt they're being developed just for BIK. I also wonder whether company car sales will be the majority of C5 X sales. I suspect it will mainly appeal to private family buyers and new retirees wanting something a bit different. The lack of available 4WD means that it probably won't appeal to the adventure set.
@@Exemplifiera Understood. But the price difference is considerable (GBP7-9K approx). And you'd have to be very religious. ;) I'm pretty sure the only logical justification is BIK. If it were my own money for a cash purchase, I'd choose a petrol-only version.
@Nigel W yeah my familys latest purchase was a 2017 Octavia estate. 1 litre 3 pot with an automatic transmission. Great car and very roomy and comfortable. No mistaking why there are so many skoda taxis
that depends on how and where you live... if you live in a house (or have other possibility to charge overnight) and your daily home-workplace-home commute is up to 50km one way (or 100, if you can charge during the work), then hybrids - provided they are used as intended - make a lot of sense! few days ago, I read a comment of one owner who uses his PHEV the way they should be used, that he's done 2000km since the last fill-up and still have fuel for aprox. 400 km... but if you don't charge it daily (regardless if you don't have that option or if you're just "too lazy") then hybrids are just ICE cars with 300kg of permanent load... we don't have EV zones yet in my country...but, why are you not allowed to enter them with hybrid in EV mode? why do hybrids (at least those of Stellantis) then have "save xx km of charge" for the EV end of your trip, if you're not allowed to enter town center and EV zone?
@@mirkozlikovski9553 "that depends on how and where you live... if you live in a house (or have other possibility to charge overnight) and your daily home-workplace-home commute is up to 50km one way (or 100, if you can charge during the work), then hybrids - provided they are used as intended - make a lot of sense! few days ago, I read a comment of one owner who uses his PHEV the way they should be used, that he's done 2000km since the last fill-up and still have fuel for aprox. 400 km... but if you don't charge it daily (regardless if you don't have that option or if you're just "too lazy") then hybrids are just ICE cars with 300kg of permanent load..." I really do understand and appreciate all that. In the context of this particular car, the PHEV version is almost 7,000 GBP more than the petrol-only car with the same engine, and almost 9,000 GBP more than the smaller-engined petrol car. You've got to calculate the number of miles you need to do in electric-only mode to save 7-9K in fuel costs. Cost of electricity is going up, and is particularly expensive (approx. the equivalent of running the car on petrol) if you charge it on some public chargers. And, as far as saving the planet, if that is part of one's calculation, then you have to also take into account the additional and considerable manufacturing emissions. It's a similar calculation when considering petrol vs diesel. In the UK, the cost of buying a diesel car is approx. 3K more than the equivalent petrol. You've got to do a truck-load of miles, literally, to justify that 3K. I just think, it's very unlikely to add up. Also, the mechanical bits need to be used regularly, or it's detrimental to their longer-term reliability. More potential costs. Just like there are actually costs to not using the brakes on EV cars that have strong regenerative braking. When not used the brakes seize up, and you end up needing new brakes, even when you've rarely used them, and because you've rarely used them. Similarly, the likes of Ferrari engines aren't actually crap and need rebuilding every 10-30,000 miles. It's because of lack of use. Like pretty much everything in life, there's a balance between too little and too much. Many people are claiming how much EVs save them in running costs, but are failing to factor in the additional purchase cost. As long as EVs hold their values, maybe it's worth it, but AFAICS, PHEVs are not holding prices as well, but the additional purchase cost is still very high.
My main complaint is that there is no quirky brightly coloured interior option. The only option is the top 20% of the seat backs in light grey, which costs 800 quid. An interesting car with a dull interior is a fail, IMO. And Citroen must have a lot of dark blue paint as it seems to be the standard free colour at the moment. Not that I'm really complaining, as it's probably the colour I'd choose, although it did look good in the grey. Again, no quirky colours offered, though. And I seem to recall the pre-production static and promo cars were green, but maybe I don't remember correctly, because there is no green paint option. Shame, I've been looking forward to this car actually being available, and now it's real, I'm disappointed.
Citroen would be doing themselves a huge favour if they didn't really change their physically adjusted climate control knobs.👍👏🤝🥰😊 Sometimes simplicity is king.
It's an Estate-UV, a Cross-wagen, an SU-Vagon, whatever. We are at a stage when it is nearly impossible to define some designs. It almost doesn't matter. At least we have plenty of options and good choices in nearly all price points. Personally, I think Skoda has some of the best designs on the market over in Europe. The new Curpas are stunning, the most desirable to date. Great review again Vicky!
Skoda has a basic design fault. The rear seats do not fold flat. In my Saab 95 estate the base of the seats fold forward against the front seats and the backs of the rear seats fold down. In the Skodas the seat base stays in position and the backs fold down at an angle. So there isn't a flat loading area
One thing i dont understand... You take this car to take a tour on a perfect road whats the point? This car meant to be comfortable on shitty roads thats what is the suspension iall about. On roads like this of course it will be fantastic. I have a 3rd generation Citroen c5 with hydro pneumatic system and is really great on shitty roads i bought for that. But in this review i dont see whats to point. You could take a lowered sport car on theses roads could be also great.
no... they really mean full sized washing machine... just not placed upward 😋. the boot is definitely wide enough and deep enough to fit one. and they seem confident that the rear window is high enough not to brake it with shutting the door... they just didn't specify does it fit with or without usual styrofoam transport packaging 😁
I've just sold my 18-month-old C5X 1.6 hybrid after owning it for 12 months. The depreciation has been crippling and it's value has plummeted by £12,000 over that period - I could have leased a brand new Range Rover for that. The drive comfort is wonderful and in hybrid mode it would easily achieve 90mpg. That said, the car has been really glitchy including pop-up faults with the climate control, heated driver's seat, reversing camera, auto wipers, auto lights, auto locking and electric tailgate. The weird slider thing to put it into gear (by sliding it backwards) always needs a double-check and its really easy to accidentally put it in reverse rather than drive, because its so counter-intuitive. The voice assistant is absolutely useless. Its such a shame because I was so excited to get the car and wanted to love it - but didn't.
@@davidperry3531 no... it's just a question of pressing the display menu select button (most likely on the steering wheel) until the display selection shows rev counter... like on all LCD instrument clusters you can select different layouts and, if I understood info about this new Citroen/Stellantis infotainment system correctly, on this one you can even customize what kind of data and in which priority will each of those menus show when selected....
I don't think that it is an SUV at all. I think that it is just an estate. The driving position is too low and subsequently, the visibility is compromised, when compared to an SUV
What totally puts me off is that ridiculous 'entertainment screen'. Where does that go if I don't need it? Most of the time it's just reflecting, in the way, and therefore annoying.
I also reviewed the Citroen C5 X in my channel, I can definitely confirm it's nowhere close to an S class, but it certainly has the comfort! But not much practicality solutions.
The two best things that the CX5 can get. A base level hybrid, preferably powered by the better Renault and Toyota hybrid system engines. And 24 volt hydropneumatic suspension - the double cushions are good but not enough Neither are those shocks are seen in the the Citroen Ami, C1. - and maybe smaller rims, bigger sidewall for more comfort/efficiency.
Engines in general are soooooo passè. I don't see the point of this car. Citroen have never sold big wafty saloons in large numbers. And I say this as someone who has had 2 C5s in the past. But they need to concentrate on the electric market rather than chucking out another of these out of date boxes that nobody will buy.
Many direct injection engines are noisey they are diesel like. But who going to invest to much into ice vehicles the day of the engine is limited most manufacturers will stop ice only vehicle production in 2025 as they will not want stocks .
Can always tell what she truly thinks by her code …how many Ands there are the less the more she not like lol And my problem with this vid and her review she Failed to say she Hates the Steering wheel as she did on reviewing the BWW IX v Audi e-tron video where she Hated on the Steering wheel coz not a normal steering wheel AND yet this Citroen has a similar shape one all be it smaller. .
Peugeot 2008 is the most selling Suv in Europe, 3008 is the most selling SUV C in Europe with Tiguan, Citroen C5 is the 4th most selling SUV C in Europe. 5 French cars on the top 10 Europe, French cars are just the most popular cars in Europe, AND in UK the French Opel Corsa ( 208 copy ) is the number 1 most popular car in UK in 2021 and first 2022. French makes the best cars since 2015 with them new technologies and design quality. When British dont even have 1 brand car, Uk built 2.1millions cars in 2016, When French built 2.4millions cars, now British built 1.1million cars since Brexit they lost -20%/year of them production, when French built 1.6millions cars in 2021 because of covid.
@@joaktag3605 All good points, but I was was stating the fact that in the UK NOBODY BUYS LARGE FRENCH CARS because they have such a poor reputation reliability, are not Premium and depreciate like the Russian Rouble. Small French compact cars and SUVs do sell but don't have the market share of the past. For 2021 UK market share for Peugeot/Citroen and Renault was reported to be 7.36%, with Peugeot performing the strongest, despite designing interiors with those stupid dashboards:) The French car industry only exists because the French govt has protected it from competition in its home market and historically pumped in $billions to keep it from going bankrupt (on numerous occasions), and still owns sizable shareholdings in both companies.
@@ingopaul67 Depreciation I can slightly agree on although that is perhaps more historical than current day. The same is definitely true for your reliability data for French cars. German premium cars tend to have poor reliability these days- this is in spite of their high servicing fees. The government bailout you mention is a problem faced by most manufacturers post pandemic; other governments have also assisted car manufacturing (we have in the UK too!). I would say the current French car industry is actually quite buoyant and appealing to many - their designs are certainly more eye-catching and progressive than most other brands. I get it though- you don’t like French cars and considering your age I can understand why.

who? people that prefer comfort over the "sportiness", because they are aware that they'll really rarely push their car to the limit on some back or mountain road (and most likely never even drive past Nürburgring, let alone on it). and for people/families that need a decent amount of space, but would rather drive in comfort of a large sedan than in a van or larger SUV... and for people that simply don't want dull "boxes" on wheels (wasn't meant "german exclusively")...
I for example (even though I like dynamic and "involved" driving) fit in all three categories) and have recently changed P5008 Mk2 for P508 Mk2
Think they missed an opportunity not making an EV version of such a luxurious car.
interesting. like the look of it but hoped they'd nailed the complete package for £35K. Maybe the simpler 3-pot is the better buy..
I'm a fan of France cars
I really don't see the point of the plug-in hybrids. Significantly extra money for questionable benefit, other than BIK, and still have to pay to enter central London, and can''t enter an electric car zone. And I doubt they're being developed just for BIK. I also wonder whether company car sales will be the majority of C5 X sales. I suspect it will mainly appeal to private family buyers and new retirees wanting something a bit different. The lack of available 4WD means that it probably won't appeal to the adventure set.
I think the main benefit would be the short distance commute or shopping if you are religious with always charging your hybrid at home.

I really do understand and appreciate all that.
If a final verdict is that it is not bad, i don't want it.
I thought they said it was an SUV, not an Esh UV
Citroen would be doing themselves a huge favour if they didn't really change their physically adjusted climate control knobs.👍👏🤝🥰😊
Sometimes simplicity is king.
I agree new Skodas look great, understated yet elegant. But if I have to choose, I'd say Peugeot are killing it with the design.
I love it
One thing i dont understand...
I presume they mean a 400mm wide top loader washing machine that you often find in European bathrooms.
no... they really mean full sized washing machine... just not placed upward 😋. the boot is definitely wide enough and deep enough to fit one. and they seem confident that the rear window is high enough not to brake it with shutting the door... they just didn't specify does it fit with or without usual styrofoam transport packaging 😁
An estate, a SUV, a saloon: ESUS
Nice car 🚙🚗🚘👍👍👍👍👍
cetroen at last have changed look good
I’ve got the 1.2 Sense Plus.I think it’s a more refined engine than the 1.6. & is punchy enough for this car.
Nice model.
sad no all wheel drive (
A good looking car and a comprehensive review but I thought all cars had rev counters these days. That noise from the motor would put me off though.
I think it does have one, if it's the same as the C4. Is unfortunately hidden in a submenu by default though
@@ciaranwebb6871 probably not designed to be viewed easily.
Needs a diesel engine, or a much more powerful petrol engine
Nasty when you show "top of the range" model. Show more basic and then tell what you think
Yes 4 wheel drive it should have been.
What totally puts me off is that ridiculous 'entertainment screen'.
Where does that go if I don't need it? Most of the time it's just reflecting, in the way, and therefore annoying.
The cars confused identity and history of big French cars in the U.K., doesn’t promise good resale values.
And 24 volt hydropneumatic suspension - the double cushions are good but not enough
Neither are those shocks are seen in the the Citroen Ami, C1.
- and maybe smaller rims, bigger sidewall for more comfort/efficiency.
The new C5x is a car not a van for moving washing machines.
It's lovely, but I'd love to see it with a big diesel engine, preferably a biturbo like the old 200hp 2.2 hdi
The biturbo one was 170 hp. The 204 hp version of 2.2 had only one turbine made by Mitsubishi. Знам го, защото карам 2.2 204 коня модела 😁
pleasantly quirky
but it still to mow no buy it in oman or arab gulf so it needs some heavy work to adverstmmant it
Rev counter. It's electric. Lol
No diesel… no good.
Good
Engines in general are soooooo passè. I don't see the point of this car. Citroen have never sold big wafty saloons in large numbers. And I say this as someone who has had 2 C5s in the past. But they need to concentrate on the electric market rather than chucking out another of these out of date boxes that nobody will buy.
Like French motors. But not quite enough...
When it comes to comfort s class is redicilus comparing to citroen.
Many direct injection engines are noisey they are diesel like. But who going to invest to much into ice vehicles the day of the engine is limited most manufacturers will stop ice only vehicle production in 2025 as they will not want stocks .
Can't understand the non-4x4 approach when making a car like this... shame really.
no bady have edea about about quality
Stiri
I have never yet heard from any Citröen owner who has said anything other than that they would NEVER have another one!
I would
Can always tell what she truly thinks by her code …how many Ands there are the less the more she not like lol And my problem with this vid and her review she Failed to say she Hates the Steering wheel as she did on reviewing the BWW IX v Audi e-tron video where she Hated on the Steering wheel coz not a normal steering wheel AND yet this Citroen has a similar shape one all be it smaller. .
In the UK it will sell in the dozens compared to BMW/Audi/Merc 1000s. Nobody buys large French cars.
For 2021 UK market share for Peugeot/Citroen and Renault was reported to be 7.36%, with Peugeot performing the strongest, despite designing interiors with those stupid dashboards:)
The French car industry only exists because the French govt has protected it from competition in its home market and historically pumped in $billions to keep it from going bankrupt (on numerous occasions), and still owns sizable shareholdings in both companies.
@@ingopaul67 Since the English started speaking crap about French cars, karma dealt with them severely for bearing false witness. Imagine losing flagship brands to foreigners and some to their former colonial subjects. Be humble please.
I've never been a Citroen lover
Thanks for sharing 🤷
Fascinating
Citroen C3 is the 8th most selling car in Europe, she is more selling than all italian cars, like Citroen C5 is more selling than all italian SUV in the same time. Well, Citroen have a lot of lovers in Europe for being the 4’ biggest seller. Like all French cars they are selling like croissants In Europe when UK lost 60% of his production cars export since brexit
Tant pis pour vous, tout le monde n'a pas non goût...
Why is she comparing this French trash to a merc?
Good point, why? Merc are so boring.
because a mercedes s class has similar ride comfort to this french trash, somethign that has been like that for decades now.
