No smoke, no mirrors, no lasers or light shows, no back-up singers and no dancers. When you’ve got Dionne Warwick you’ve got it all in one perfect package wrapped in a Bob Mackie gown.

Couldn't wait to see her sing this live! If you haven't heard the recording of it, you have got to hear it. On the record she does stuff vocally, hits some crazy high notes, into the stratosphere. With Dionne, she always keeps things fresh when singing live, goes off the melody line at times and is so creative with a vocal. Amazing voice. And talk about a CLASS ACT.

    That’s what they say.
That the past is just a series of moments.
    Each one perfect.

A bead on the necklace of time.
    The past doesn’t haunt us.
    Wouldn’t even recognize us.
If there are ghosts to be found… it’s us who haunt the past.
We haunt it… so we can look again.
See the people we miss… and the things we missed about them.
    I see you fully now.

Shimmering… like the city at dusk when it’s most beautiful."

@@floydlawson3765 The Marilyn McCoo Fifth Dimension rendition is the best version, although Dionne Warwick comes close, but in a different style. Both versions, like most, are cover versions, however. Keely Smith was the first major artist to record "One Less Bell To Answer" and that was in 1967 and why The Fifth Dimension recorded theirs in 1970, as their producer Bones Howe had come across that recording and thought it would be a good fit for The Fifth Dimension, so that is how theirs came to be.

@@marion71355Yes, they used the boom overhead mics through the 1980s and 1990s and possibly still on television talk shows. They used them on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" through his end as host in 1992 and while Jay Leno was his regular fill-in from 1987 to 1992. The boom mics were sometimes visible in camera range when Johnny Carson hosted "Tonight" on the NBC television network and occasionally bumped him on the head, which made for laughs from his in-studio audience. "The Carol Burnett Show" aired on the CBS television network, originally from 1967 to 1978, then in rerun syndication in 30 minute shows called "Carol Burnett And Friends" that are still in rerun syndication. Carol Burnett recently turned 90 years old. Dionne Warwick is 82 years old. The particular clip here is likely from 1972, as that is when the Dionne Warwick rendition of "One Less Bell To Answer" had been released on her 1972 Warner Brothers "Dionne" album. That song had been written for singer Keely Smith and her version had been released in 1967 and then Marilyn McCoo and her band The Fifth Dimension made a cover version in 1970 that is maybe the best known of all of them and many others have sung that song, but Dionne Warwick gave it her smooth sound and style and it has become maybe the second-best known version, as more exposure has occurred on TH-cam. Dionne Warwick was a frequent television talk show guest and performer.

@Ortzmet The song "(There's) Always Something There To Remind Me" was a 1968 song originally sung by Dionne Warwick and others. In 1983, the British New Wave band Naked Eyes remade the song. It is a Burt Bacharach-Hal David song. "One Less Bell To Answer" was originally a 1967 Keely Smith song that was popularized by Marilyn McCoo who soloed on it as part of The Fifth Dimension in 1970. It was remade by the British New Wave band Naked Eyes in 1983 and became a hit for them. "One Less Bell To Answer" is a 1967 song for Keely Smith, 1970 song for Marilyn McCoo and her Fifth Dinension band, and a 1972 song for Dionne Warwick on her 1972 "Dionne" album. This video performance appears to be from 1972 or somewhat later, as her hairstyle was that way then and it was released by her in 1972. "One Less Bell To Answer" was originally a 1967 Keely Smith original song; all the others, including Marilyn McCoo with her lead on The Fifth Dimension in 1970, was a cover as well, although the most well-known. Dionne Warwick did an excellent version on this video from "The Caol Burnett Show" and it differs from her 1972 "Dionne" album version.
You mentioned the 1983 Cyndi Lauper hit song, "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun". That was not only a cover of a 1979 song, but it was by a male singer who recorded it first at that time and I think has passed on since.
"Saving All My Love For You" was popularized by Whitney Houston in the mid-1980s, but was first recorded in 1978 by Marilyn McCoo a few years after she had left The Fifth Dimension. Eventually, all songs that are famous become cover songs.
