My mom was listening to this song when I was born. When I was a baby, she calmed me down with this song. 34 years later, even though I heard it thousands of times, in several different versions, I am still deeply moved by this song, the most beautiful and iconic song ever recorded.
You make up stories alot Ive seen you across many videos saying you wanted to go to “Led zeppelin live in Tokyo but your father never let you” but now here your saying you were just born when they released the song your a liar
@@Minceontoast2 You do not know to read? So pay attention before talking nonsense. STH was released in 1971, I was born in 1986. I NEVER said I wanted to see Led Zeppelin in Tokyo. My FATHER saw Led in Tokyo in 1971 and he was 15 at that time. I said I wanted to see PLANT/PAGE in 1996. Do you understand or need further explanation?
First time to hear this version and every time you think you heard the best version a better one pops up. No one will ever come close to this band ever
I made the point when my daughter went to Southampton Uni that she'd made a good choice because the mighty Zeppelin had played at the Students Union back in the day.
Many different opinions out there but this has to be the best song ever written and performed, after 50 years listening to it thousands of times it’s like the first time I’ve heard it. A masterpiece like a Mona Lisa
I remember it well .. enough . They were one hour late and appeared to be tuning up but it was indeed the start of this amazing iconic classic . Redeemed .
You might know this but it was actually considered to be released but then Page decided to go with the How The West Was Won shows instead (probably because of this particular concert's rough points). Also, the mellotron track from the start of this song is the exact one that Page used for Stairway on HTWWW. Pretty cool to think.
This is before autotune so I can't emphasise enough how fantastic Robert's voice is, wonderful sublime vocal.Amazing singer even today in his seventies. ☘

the whole music is so orgasmatic! for me the solo is the highlight in this file, great performed by Page! in my humble opinion, even better than the original recorded one
They made their money from concerts in those days. The LPs were only a taste of what you would get. Most people don't know how great they were because they never saw them play live
Page is so underrated as a rythym guitar player. Those great guitar fills in this rendition and stayting in perfect slow swing time with no drums... much harder than one might think.
Page subestimado!!!!????. Al contrario....todo el mundo, que sepa algo d historia música, pop...60-90, sabe, opina que es uno d los tres mejores guitarristas que han existido...!!!.....
@@virtualsnake1994- There's no doubt that Roberts voice was burnt out by 73, I guess I should have said Robert didn't sound like he was being a try hard. He just needed some rest, Plant sounded great from 77-80, and all throughout the rest of his career.
This band didn’t become huge in the sense of universally known until the late 1980s. Strange though that sounds, Led Zeppelin where a niche band that had an acquired taste in the 1970s. The charts where dominated in the public’s mind with other stuff, and the legacy of The Beatles was overshadowing up and coming stuff. Groups like Zep, Sabbath, Deep Purple etc.. where underground music that didn’t generally get air time on the radio. History is being rewritten to place them in a more favourable light, because they are so good ! I know : I was 17 at the time, and we liked the idea that our parents wouldn’t listen or hear about them. The whole imagery of the band was also offensive to the war generation with its Germanic looking record covers and war references etc.. They did stop short of going as far as the punk crowd later on employing swastikas on clothing etc..
They weren't that niche. Their albums sold extremely well. Of course parents didn't know them. Parents would not have known other popular bands of the time either. Everyone I knew as a student in the 1970s knew these bands. My husband always knew when his friend was at home because he could hear Led Zeppelin I blasting down the street. You would see Sabbath and Deep Purple on TV music shows - not so much Zep as they didn't do 3 minute singles. They weren't underground. LZ were just slower in raising their profile in the UK as they did their first big tours in the USA, didn't release singles and the music press weren't the ones to create their reputations, but they soon caught on once people began to hear their albums. The Zeppelin imagery was nothing to do with Germany in terms of what it symbolised for the band. It was just to illustrate the name Led Zeppelin, which was a fancier version of Keith Moon's comment that the band would go down like a lead balloon.
@@heliotropezzz333 Well. LZ ll album cover is a photoshopped montage of a German WW1 aircrew ! The ‘ airship ‘ was German and the imagery is Teutonic . A lot of posters/ stickers/ and casual merchandising did carry these references here and there. But, yes, this isn’t the main marketing stance of the group under Peter Grant. It didn’t extend into further albums as far as I know. But that album is the one most people had at the time and associated it with image of the group. The 1970s where chart dominated and everyone including your gran knew who The Beatles where. Part of the marketing strategy today even for emerging groups is to market only to that demographic ie teenagers. I still maintain, that these heavy bands were off the radar and weren’t mainstream like , say , Rod Stewart or Elton John. They never did Top of the Pops did they ?
@@stechriswillgil3686 Their covers included German airships called Zeppelins which reflected the fact that they were called Led Zeppelin, which was a joke name inspired by Keith Moon saying they would go down like a Lead Balloon. They changed Lead to Led to avoid pronunciation confusion. They didn't play on Top of the Pops for many reasons (though Top of the Pops used some of their music as its theme tune). The reasons for that were that they never intended to produce singles. They wanted the freedom to produce the music they wanted. Singles had to be no more than 3 minutes long to get airplay or Top of the Pops play. Singles also added pressure to come up always with the 'next single' which would not be too stylistically different from the last 'hit' and Zeppelin didn't want those pressures and constraints. Also TOTP didn't let bands play live. Bands had to mime to their recorded singles. They didn't want to be 'mainstream' in that sense but they were popular and sold a lot of albums.
Are you serious? Their 4th album in 1971 became the most commercially successful ever when it was released, their tours were record breaking......They were the biggest band of the '70s. They didn't make TV appearances because they didn't have to......they were hugely successful and influential without them! A very small venue
Very small venue that's why
They were playing at smaller venues in the UK as practice for their upcoming tour of the US including Madison square gardens.Mmmmmmm

Crowd size was less than 3,000 I think. Like 2300.
Boom!
i doubt that the uni had a venue that held a thousand atthat time
Maybe 200 - 400
Practice for the US upcoming tour, including Madison gardens-The song remains the same.
