Each juicer has its own set of pros and cons. For me the VRT is a significant upgrade over the breville. The VRT will juice leafy greens more effectively than the breville. Its best for mixxed juices including leafy greens and hard vegetables.
There are pros and cons to every juicer. Between this video and the last video I go over the pros and cons of each machine. They are both good machines. Each one has things I like and dont like.
Slowstar.. Still getting familiar with it and learning how it works, what it can and can't do. I have used a VRT forever and am fairly confident in its abilities.
Hi John, your amazing and thank you for this demonstration...I wanted to wait and see the results from your test before making a purchase and you helped me make up my mind which juicer to purchase. Thanks again!
The crush does not have variable speed unless they changed it (unlikely). Other breville juicers may have variable speeds. see watch?v=5nO_HYSwai4 for my opinions on the crush.
Juicers: Slowstar and NC800. Produce: leafy greens and carrots. Criteria: yield, time, and ease of juicing and clean-up. Result = purchase! (For me and my companion seeking friend, Mr VitaMix). Love the videos, John! Thanks!
It looks like the Slowstar is as efficient in juice yield as the NC800. The NC800 takes longer. There's less foam to the NC800 but the Slowstar's foam might disappear after awhile so it might not have that much foam after the foam disappears.
Hello John huge fan!! Question about this juicer. I am very interested in purchasing this on your page! Need to upgrade from my jack lalanne juicer. How does the sorbet attachment work. That is one of the reasons I want to get it? Thanx for all you great and informational videos!!
Yes, I think it's great for juicing leafy greens as long as you throw in some harder veggies and water-heavy veggies. My go-to juice nowadays has spinach, parsley, celery, and lemon. I hate kale, and I limit myself to ONE leaf of it a few times a week. I don't know how John can stomach kale in juice, but it is DEFINITELY potent stuff ...in a good way.
The Vert took 6 minutes and 30 seconds to juice while it was still backed up and had more foam. The Slowstar got 9% more juice. The Slowstar took 5 minutes and 30 seconds and was a much smoother process with less pulp in the juice. You could argue it took 5 minutes except for that last small amount. It looks like the NC800 gets less foam but that might be negligible because after the foam sits more it disappears so I can't say if foam is an issue, but it is an issue with the Greenstar Elite.
I enjoy your videos, I have omega very 350 HD. I love my omega. We finally have a juicer that is capable of going against the leader the OMEGA VRT350. Great battle, John!!
Im ashamed to say this but i own a cheap $60 Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Pro Juicer that has a 1.1 HP motor, which makes it loud and fast, and i was just wondering what type/style of juicer is this. I'm new to juicing and just decided to buy a cheap juicer to get started. But NOW after watching a ton of videos on juicers i guess i should upgrade and go for the slow juicers such as the Omega VRT 400 which will extract more juice/nutrients because of the slowness.
1. tough to say. I would say overall the slowstar. 2. still need to cut produce on the slowstar to not get clogged. the chopping feature may help some.
Thanks John! I'm leaning towards buying the VRT400 simply because you said it was easier to clean and also for the self-feeding action of the juicer. Other than the yields, is there any other definitive reason to get the Slowstar instead? Kinda hesitant buying a 1st-gen appliance...
I'm interested in purchasing a slow juicer called, Breville Juice Fountain Crush, because it has variable speed settings. Is it a good idea to have variable speeds?
Could you do a comparison of the Slowstar vs NC800 for leafy greens, carrots and soft fruits. I know you said that the NC800 is going to be nearly 25% higher yield for leafy greens but, based on the last juice off you did with it, I'm worried that it's going to be a much thicker 'nectar like' consistency which i'm not sure i'd like for leafy greens. I also want to see how the NC800 handles carrots & soft fruits (without many seeds) with the adjustable setting set to high. Looking to buy ASAP.
John, you have such unbridled enthusiasm for juicing, I love it! Thank you for so many thorough videos, I've learned so much from you! I was going to buy the Omega VRT 400 but, now, am not so sure. My only concern is clean up, I'd love to see how easy/hard it is to clean up the slowstar. In your expert opinion, which one requires more time for clean up?
Hi john my name is Sara and i was wondering if you feeal that the slowstar is a better buy that the omega vrt 350, i am looking to juice mixed things, also i beg of you to make a video whit the new minsing atachment to the slowstar making icecream, that can really pruve a pluss:) chears from sweden:)
9% more yield at half the RPMs sounds really great, but the user friendliness definitely goes to the omega, its a compromise but I don't think the omega is gunna get packed away in John's cabinet just yet =P Hey john just curious did you measure the RPMs like you did some of your other juicers, just wanna see if the manufacture specs are on point :)
1. Which one juices faster between the omega and slowstar? 2. Does the chopping feature of the slowstar chop celery and greens enough for it not to get clogged?
I hardly ever get any foam when juicing my greens with my VRT350HD...because I do not put such a big handful in at once...If you just put in a little at a time it will not foam up...I put a small enough amount that it just drops in, I do not even push it in...Same thing with carrots and other vegetables, cut them smaller and don't feed them so fast and you get a lot better yield with a lot less foam and pulp...Also I never strain anything, I like the pulp...
Hi John, I want to order either the VRT 400 or the Slowstar. I understand both work best with mixed produce. I "need" just straight OJ/apple juice first every morning followed the rest of the day with mostly veggies and apples, carrots, lemons mixed in to make green juices tolerable. Which does straight oranges/apples best or would NC800 work best?
Thank you so much. I need to get a juicer for my green juice bc I have been losing money on my leafy greens like crazy. Will it do good with apple and carrots or beets too? :)
Hey John, I've been watching your reviews on the verts for a while now and I'm wondering if the trade off is worth it for ease of use vs. a Green Star Elite. I love my GSE but it is an absolute PAIN to clean and slow to use and I find that really impacts my decision on how often to juice as I am usually running out the door for work, or tired at night after work. I know the juice is superior with the GSE, but how far off are these verts in quality of juice and taste?
I also used to assume that the boxes of leafy greens were the exact weight as stated on the package. However, because I weigh all my ingredients every time, I've noticed that they often contain slightly more (up to 3 oz. in one pkg!) and very occasionally, less. So, for future juice offs, perhaps you could weigh the greens too. Picky picky I know. ;-) I love all you videos and especially love your attention to detail. Thanks John! :-)
Hey john, I have a question on the yield. Due to the dual blade system of the slowstar which makes the pulp finer did it seem that the pulp may have passed through the strainer more readily than the Omega? Could you tell if there was more pulp in the juice of the slowstar over the Omega?
Have you watched "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead?" If so what do you think about the 60day fast. I'm thinking of starting it but is it safe to drink same ingredients for 60 days? I like the Breville because you can put the whole fruit without all the chopping but I've heard you mention they are not the healthiest. Would you recommend the Omega VRT 400HDS for a first time user? Hope you can help! Thanks :-)
It's much faster with much more waste and oxidation of the juice. They are completely different animals. I own a Juice fountain elite and a Green Star Elite. The Breville is practically worthless for any type of greens and the yield is way lower. With the Green Star, the yield is about as high as humanly possible without going to a Norwalk and it will juice greens as well as pretty much anything else easily. The other big difference between the 2 is the taste and quality of the juice.
Please wash your greens anyway... do you really just want to eat them right from the package? Who knows what/who has touched them after they were "triple washed"... and triple washed in what? Yick.. takes 3 minutes to wash and spin the greens...
Each juicer has its own set of pros and cons. For me the VRT is a significant upgrade over the breville. The VRT will juice leafy greens more effectively than the breville. Its best for mixxed juices including leafy greens and hard vegetables.

Hi John, Great Juice Off! Can't wait to see your Greens Juice Off between the Slowstar vertical and the Omega NC800 horizontal. Thanks!
I can't wait to get the Slowstar my high speed Oklife juicer sucks.
The crush does not have variable speed unless they changed it (unlikely). Other breville juicers may have variable speeds. see
watch?v=5nO_HYSwai4
for my opinions on the crush.
Inspiring!
I like your new way to announce the Winner :)) With text and music :))
Nice job!
Thank you John. I frequently watch all your videos more than once. :-) Thanks for being an inspiration to superior health!
I love my VRT330HD/350. I love the auto feed. I think the slowstar is a great competition for yield and technique of extraction.
Am on 10 day of juice diet...it's amazing. I can see the benefits already. I bought the Omega 8004 from watching your video reviews. Thanks so much
Can you do a vid using the other attachment and make a nut milk or nut butter...thanks
Can this make Kale juice ?
great video, i still plan on getting the omega :)
hope to have a video on it soon. I have used it and so far so good. it works great.
Thanks John YOu ROCK!!!! ALWAYS THE BEST!!!!
Thanks for making this video. I can't wait to see the tribest slowstar make nut butters...

So which one is on your counter now John?

pineapples are best eaten whole or blended. Many juicers can not handle the texture and may get jammed.
I enjoy your videos, I have omega very 350 HD. I love my omega. We finally have a juicer that is capable of going against the leader the OMEGA VRT350. Great battle, John!!
Did you weigh the inputs? Your produce could be vastly different.
Im ashamed to say this but i own a cheap $60 Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Pro Juicer that has a 1.1 HP motor, which makes it loud and fast, and i was just wondering what type/style of juicer is this. A quick question if it's ok? I haven't seen many juices on here that use Pineapple, and specific reason for this?

Thanks for the comparison and addressing the BPA issue. Do you recommend any particular juicing recipe book?

Hey john just curious did you measure the RPMs like you did some of your other juicers, just wanna see if the manufacture specs are on point :)
That was confusing:) Which one do you recommend John?
SlowStar more juice, less pulp, less foam, less money, and the mincing attachment :D
SlowStar won me over ;)
Thanks for the education John! Just placed order for Slowstar to replace older Braun centrifugal juicer. Looking forward to results.

John do you ever have returns that you sell for a substantial discount? Just curious...what juicer do you have on YOUR kitchen counter??

Every time I watch one of your reviews, I wonder about some comparisons..then it turns out, you've _done_ those comparisons! thanks.
You need to make your own soft drink John. Call it Coca Kohler.
I also used to assume that the boxes of leafy greens were the exact weight as stated on the package. I did strain the juice in this episode so you can see how much pulp was created.
GROWING YOUR GREENS DOT COM!!!!!
wow..
I like the omega because you can make almond milk

pulp glob
These juicers seem to operate very slow. I have a Breville juice fountain and it is much faster than these juicers in your video.
John, can you also do a fruit juice off between these two machines.
It's much faster with much more waste and oxidation of the juice. They are completely different animals. I own a Juice fountain elite and a Green Star Elite. Aaah-hah-hah!! "Whole Paycheck" Stores!! Hilarious!
