This song is about a folk love tale between Sohni and Mahiwal.. They were is love but were from different tribes so Sohni got married to a man she despised and was still in love with Mahiwal.. Her husband used to bake pots for a living.. Mahiwal lived across the River Chenab and she used to cross the river using a clay pot.. Once her sister in law saw it and replaced the pot with a half baked pot so when Sohni used that pot, it melted in the river and Sohni drowned.. This song is a conversation between Sohni and the clay pot where pot is trying to tell her that you shoudn't go and she is making it clear that she will go at any cost.. the pot replaced mistakenly
This song is about an old tragic folklore. During the Mughal Empire reign in the Indian subcontinent, there was a beautiful girl named Soni. She lived on one side of the Chenab River in Gujarat. This area was home to a very famous trading port. So merchants and traders throughout the world would visit. Soni and her family had a small shop where they sold decorated pots. One day, as Soni was in the shop, an Uzbek merchant named Mahiwal came inside and instantly fell in love with her. Then every day after that he would come to the shop just to see her. Soon, she too fell madly in love with him. However, Soni's family and village members wouldn't allow her to marry him because people from her village couldn't marry outsiders. Heartbroken, he moved to the other side of the Chenab River. At night when everyone was asleep, Soni would sneak across the river using a large baked pot to float across. One night, her sister-in-law (her brothers' wife) sees her and hatches a plan to replace the baked pot with an unbaked pot, so it would melt in the water while Soni would try to cross the river. This song is a conversation between Soni and the unbaked pot. She is begging the pot to take her across because she has to see her lover. But because the pot is unbaked it inevitably starts to melt, and the pot says to Soni, "Kacchi meri miti kaccha mere naam ni". When Soni realizes that there is no escape she says "yaar noon milegi ajj lash yaar di" (tonight my lover will be greeted with my dead body). Finally, the pot melts completely and Soni drowns. Her lover on the other side sees this and jumps in the river and drowns too so that they can finally be together in the afterlife. :(

I just want to say that you will not find beat drop in coke studio Pakistan because most of the songs are remaking of classical genres like Qawali and Ghazal, we are accustomed to listen to 10 plus minute long tracks as that's the classical way. Coke studio tracks are heavily influenced by folk tales, religion, spiritualism, Sufism, culture and classical singing. The main purpose of music in classical Pakistani singing is that it should be peaceful and bring tranquility to ones heart and mind. Typically long parts are given to each instrument playing as they represent where they are from. The instrument played by the old woman? It's a 'sagar veena' played by the daughter of it's inventor who is also the mother of the two male singers in this video. If you want to enjoy some extremely catchy foreign music, and I mean blow-your-top-off crazy, listen to BTS, a kpop boy band.

They are both brothers. Ali hamza and Ali noor, and the older lady playing the instrument is their Mum. She invented that instrument and is the sole player of it, she did teach it to her sons.

Madam Noor Zehra Kazim is a Pakistani Sagar Veena player. She is the daughter of lawyer and activist Raza Kazim who invented Sagar Veena - a stringed instrument similar to Vichitra veena and Chitra Veena.Together with her father she runs Sanjan Nagar Institute of Philosophy and Arts, and is the only performer of Sagar Veena since its creation in 1971. With a career spanned over four decades, she has performed both domestically and internationally, achieving critical appraisal for instrument, as well as her Indian style of music being a non-Indian.
She made her Coke Studio debut in season 3 and returned in season 9,as a part of team Noori. She is the mother of Noori's lead vocalist Ali Noor and guitarist Ali Hamza.
Guys,you should check out the Pakistani band Noori. They're brothers and a rock band. You would like their songs Pinjra,Nishaan and Aik Tha Badshah. Maybe check out the Pakistani band called EP. Their songs Hamesha and Hamein Aazma.They were a Linkin Park inspired band. Heavy metal and all.

I wanted to share this story and I would like to share something interesting with u that the Grave/Tomb of this Story Girl (SOHNI) is in my hometown :) it's a real/true love story.

The sufi poet has narrated this love story to depict his message that when you follow the unguided and unsound guide(spiritual) you are bound to be doomed like a claypot. Instead the sufi poet suggest in the last lyrics that to get to the right path you have to follow the right spiritual guide master.

It’s a love story which has many esoteric spiritual undertones. The girl wants to get to her love but she has to cross the river for that. The song is explaining the conversation between the clay pot (the vessel she wants to use to cross the river) and the girl. The clay pot is telling her that it is unreliable and tells her what it needs to get to where she wants to go.
This is Sufi, spiritual, and you are all heavy metal ; the purpose of a Sufi music is to sooth, while yours is else.Oil and Water don't really mix.Too bad,but no sad; you keep yours ,we happy with ours.

"Sohni Mahiwal" is a tragic love story which reverts the classical motif of Hero and Leader. The heroine Sohni, unhappily married to a man she despises, swims every night across the river using a clay pot to keep afloat in the water, to where her beloved Mahiwal herds buffaloes. One night her sister-in-law replaces the clay pot with a vessel of unbaked clay, which dissolves in water and she dies in the whirling waves of the river. The song is about the conversation between Sohni and the clay pot.

the lyrics used here are not very simple to understand. They are usually folk lore and others are sufi inspired. And most of them talk about divine love.

This is about mythical story , there were two lovers(Soni and Mahiwal) living on opposite sides of river. Soni the girl used to cross the river on clay pot ("Gara") to see her lover. One day she Didn't see him for the whole day on that night river was also in monstrous flow that was suicidal to go across with that clay pot but she was determined to see her lover and was dying of him........when she reached in middle of river the pot couldn't resist and she drowned because of night no body was there help her and she died.She knew that pot was unable bear that flow of river but she kept believing in his pot and met to her end.
in the next day boy waited for her the whole day and in night he also drowned while crossing the river because he didn't know how to swim. They did suicidal acts to see each other..........................

Hell to you if this is not your kind of music or if you are not of the kind of this music. Don't then rub the seat you are sitting upon listening to this music showing as if you are some kind of an expert. Just tell people that you don't have the width and depth of mind to feel a better kind of music. As far as this song is concerned it is fabulous. The variations incorporated by all three singers are superb. And together it was enough to win the hearts of people who have some understanding.
