Mengele did actually face earthly justice in the end. He lived out the rest of his life in fear of being caught, as is evidenced in his journals. He chewed on the ends of his moustache out of anxiety and developed a hair ball in his stomach. His medical license was revoked. He had absolutely no money left in his older years after the funds from his family dried up. His own son rejected him after he showed a lack of remorse and didn’t even tell him about his grandson. Mengele wrote about how scared and lonely he felt in hiding because he burned every bridge with everyone in his life. He developed depression and thought of taking his own life.
In some ways, it would have been ‘better’ for him to have been captured and tried because living in fear for 30+ years must have been torture. But if you think about it, the rest of his life was the perfect justice; he lived just as his victims died: sick and in pain.
Also, his own family refused to claim his bones so they’re being used as teaching tools in a medical school. He’s trapped as a lab specimen.
Can’t think of a more fitting punishment than that.

Thankyou for this, I never knew he had a journal or wrote about his life whilst on the run, anywhere I can get further info on his journal?

@@takenotice5677 a lot of excerpts have been posted online. If you look up ‘Mengele, diary entries’ you should be able to find some writings. The public only has access to a limited supply of his writings, unfortunately. His diary was auctioned off a while back and sold to a private buyer. Hopefully we’ll get a look at the full diary in the future.

I heard this from one of the documentaries on TH-cam. That before the selected children met Mangela for the experiments that he'd make them stand in a room with only enough light to realize there was a board at the front of the room with A LOT of authentic eyeballs takin from previous victims tacked to it just staring at them. I can not imagine how terrifying that would have been. 🤢🤢🤢

That's when I found out about the Mengele factory that made farm equipment. I saw on TV a US news crew doing a remote at the Gunzburg marktplatz. I went to Dachau and saw a map of satellite camps and the small town where I had a off post apartment was on it. I took a audio visual course in Augsburg. The German instructor told us he had been a nazi photographer and sold us some pictures. Went to PLDC in Bad Tolz which had been used to train SS soldiers and that the underground levels were booby trapped and sealed. Went to the famed Eagles Nest once. Went to a American cemetery in Luxembourg where some of General Pattons soldiers were buried.

Yes, denial of facts on your part, because you have to be 18 or older to qualify for gender reassignment surgery and no one undergoes one who doesn't want one. Also, Nazis wouldn't have any reason to want to perform a gender reassignment surgery because they persecuted LGBT persons right along with ethnic groups. Experiments in gender reassignment were of no interest to them because they didn't serve their ideological purposes, which was to inform themselves of ways to improve the fitness of Germans as a race and cure diseases. Nazis had a strong belief in traditional gender roles and considered LGBT persons sick and unnatural, which appears to be your POV as well....so what does that tell ya about where YOU'RE at?

Josef Mengele, the "Angel of Death" at Auschwitz concentration camp, spent his last years in his Brazilian hideaway lonely, depressed and short of money, according to 86 letters, notes and diaries discovered filed away in a Sao Paulo police archive.
One of the most wanted Nazi war criminals, because of the experiments he conducted on children and other inmates, Mengele apparently lived his last years suffering intense abdominal pains.
Fear of being discovered made him chew the ends of his moustache, resulting in a ball of hair blocking his intestines.
The typewritten letters and handwritten notes were found when police files were being reorganised, and excerpts were translated and published by the newspaper Folha de S Paulo.
They had been seized at the home of an Austrian couple, Liselotte and Wolfram Bossert, now dead, who befriended Mengele, and at the small house in the seaside resort of Bertioga, on the outskirts of Sao Paulo, where he was living when he died from a heart attack in 1979.
Most of the letters were addressed to Wolfgang Gerhard, an Austrian Nazi Mengele befriended in Brazil.
There were also 20 letters from Gerhard to Mengele, written after he returned to Austria in 1971.
Mengele's diary reveals a man who was unrepentant about Nazi actions during the second world war.
In January 1976 an entry reveals that Mengele was reading the memoirs of Albert Speer, Hitler's architect and armaments minister.
He commented: "He diminishes himself, showing repentance, that is lamentable."
At the same time he was depressed and resentful about his lonely, hard-up life in exile.
In 1976 Mengele wrote in his diary, after complaining that he would not be able to make a trip to Rio because neither he nor his friends could afford the price of the petrol: "What's going to happen? Now I feel lonely, or rather abandoned, more painfully than ever."
In another entry, apparently referring to having to buy the silence of friends, he wrote "everything in life has a price".
Mengele came from a well-to-do family, and during his first years in exile, in Argentina, he lived well.
But by the time he reached Brazil in 1960, after 10 years of hiding in Paraguay, his funds had dwindled.
He probably hoped that sympathisers in the large and often wealthy German community in Brazil would provide him with a comfortable life.
But things did not work out the way Mengele had planned, and his notes show a man constantly worried about money.
In 1974 Wolfgang Gerhard, writing from Austria, suggested that he should return to Europe for medical treatment for his pains, saying he should go before he got too old to travel - he was 63 - and that it would not be as difficult as he was imagining.
But Mengele, who had been forced to sell the small flat he had bought in Sao Paulo, did not have the money.
The letters also show that, although he now lived in a country where interracial marriage was the rule, rather than the exception, Mengele had not changed his racist views.
He talked about the "disagreeable" results of miscegenation and the advantages of countries where European immigrants did not mix, and praised the apartheid system in South Africa.
He had a peculiar explanation for the "indisputable" cultural achievements of the Jews: the fact that "they always lived with peoples of a high cultural level ... like Moses in Egypt, Einstein in Swabia, Mendelssohn in Germany or Disraeli in England".
When his skeleton was exhumed in 1985 many questioned whether it was really his. In 1992 DNA tests showed conclusively that it was.

I have a question: would it be ethical to use the research of Nazi doctors by today's doctors? And is that data actually being used in the present?

    • @matlinwhitten7800
      @matlinwhitten7800 ปีที่แล้ว

It is unfortunately, but not as much as other historical times of human experiments, as holocaust victims were atypically unhealthy subjects and their ideas were based on false genetic beliefs. However, hypothermia research and "cure" and research on phosgene gas (from the gas chambers) that is used in determining toxic chemicals is from it. Unfortunately this is seen in other evil doctors of history as well. Like how the "father of gynecology", J. Marion Sims, did terrible experiments on black women for his research.
Also: the ethical question is not settled fully. People really try to avoid it since much of their research is not trustworthy and just showed what NOT to do, but also, shows pictures and diagrams of their murder victims.
