    Would prefer to work on my butterfly flare than splits. At 48 I can try and get all I can! Thanks Maria

      That’s exactly why I created the Butterfly Challenge first.

    Hi Maria, this mainly interested me in the context of injury prevention, which sounds like is your key reason as well. My son is 15 and a goalie and always seems to tweak his hip now and then when making one of those instinctive desperation saves that are sometimes necessary, so mainly looking for exercises that will help prevent injuries in those situations. Love your videos! Thanks! -Goalie Dad

      That is my #1 mission - keep goalies healthy. But if those 'tweaks' keep happening, go and get him assessed by a good sport physio, sometimes those things are early signs of impingement. Not the end of the world, but something you want to know.

    I had to make a split save a couple of nights ago in a game. I’m a smaller beginner goalie and still learning my positioning. I tend to end up deep in my crease a lot of the time and someone cut across my crease to try to sneak it in backdoor. Without really thinking about it I was able to kick my leg out and kick the puck out without falling on my face. Great video by the way! I love learning about this stuff!

      Yeah, it's just instinctive isn't it? Nice job making that save!!!

    Nope, nothing new here; I don’t have hair. lol. I’m interested in what you have to teach us on improving the splits range but at 58 I’m not looking to impress anyone with that ability. Thanks for another informative video.

    I just discovered a sports complex in town where I went to play pickleball. They have an ice rink and amateur hockey. I grew up in Boston playing some hockey on frozen lakes/ponds.
    I'm 61 now and have always loved the goalie position. I'm thinking about getting in on this amateur hockey for fun, even if it's just to go to practice sessions and have fun getting pucks shot at me. I'm in pretty good shape for 61. Do you think I'm reaching or should I go for it? For fun.

    • @goalietraining
      @goalietraining  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think you are reaching - but you will need to put in some work to get your body ready to hit the ice again or you are going to be at risk of an injury. And goaltending has changed a lot since you were playing on the ponds - - so it will be a lot tougher on the hips. You might want to start with the Butterfly Challenge - the link is in the description for this video.

  • @srStinnky
    @srStinnky 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    yes, I do fall to my front when attempting a splits save.
    well the splits on its own is no way near my first priority...stands way back from not in a particular order, stamina, hand eye coordination, puck handling, lateral skating, patience, goalie specific strength, butter fly flair...which I understand has a direct connection with the splits.
    In that half split workout I usually feel it in the opening side.
    one of my grandfathers used to be on the UK olympic team, I'm not sure if my mum is really able to do the splits and from my dad side...i have no clue n_n
    thanks for this video, and I'm looking forward to the splits challenge, can we do the butterfly challenge at the same time?

    • @goalietraining
      @goalietraining  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly and that's what I tell you in the program - this shouldn't be your #1 priority... I explain it all in the program. Yes, you can do the Butterfly Challenge at the same time - they are both really basic programs.

    To be honest, If I try to do the split like Vasilevskiy, I shall assume I will break everything in half and end up in a wheel chair for the rest of my life...But doing it it must be good for body health

    • @goalietraining
      @goalietraining  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not necessary good for everyone's body - - I explained it all in the video. But you are right, we can't just go out and try to do the splits - - that could end very badly :)
