37yo, started 4 years ago completely from no hockey experience or skating right into goalie. I'm now in Div 2 out of 10 in beer league holding my own. We need more videos like these! Thanks Maria!
@@goalietraining Thanks Maria! My biggest physical issue by far is hip strength. My butterfly flare is okay in that it looks like a butterfly, and I can get a decently wide flare, however, holding it wide is a real challenge, especially while staying upright and not having my internal rotators "bounce" when I land on my knees. I'm 183cm tall but my inseam is only 76cm. Basically I am all torso and neck. If I can maintain staying as upright as possible while down in the fly, I will deny a lot of the upper net. The sacrifice I make right now to do that is my flare is very narrow. If I can dial that in and get really strong stable hips, I can get over the weakness of exposing more on ice net.
Hey Maria, I'm "just" a 49yo beer league goalie that started playing hockey 10 years ago, and went into goal 7.5 yrs ago....then had a THA last year followed by microdiscetomy (that disc didn't liike me anymore) and rotator cuff repair (can we say complete SS tear) this year during COVID. So, yeah I can definately use these as I am now cleared from everything to be back on the ice. The timing is great given Ii have lost my lateral slide and knew it was a core issue, but not quite what to do. Thank you very much! These are getting added to my gym routine and PT.
So glad to help - WOW - what did you do before you started playing hockey - football? roller derby?? You've been using your body that's for sure - glad to hear you are on the mend.

More Hybrid & trying 1/2 BF than full BF so mobility is key - trying to model after Brodeur before he BF & then add Price patience & mobility . That guideline sounds good - - I would also budget a little more for getting back to playing goal. Typically the return to play is 9-12 months (9 is early). There is an entire progression you need to follow after ACL reconstruction - starting with getting back your quads activation and full extension all the way up to functional strength and stability drills. This is great as I've had to pick up the slack and start jumping in the net. Are there any other things that help improve flexibility from the knees or is that set at 40 yr old? Been getting some pain on the inside of my knee, probably over extending I'll check out the challenge, thanks.
Thanks for a GREAT video! I will never call myself 'just a beer-leaguer' again! Quick question though - will using knee pads (I usually use them under my pads on the ice) impact the drills, or it's it ok to wear them?
Hi, Maria. I began playing goal at 35. I am now 69. There have always been holes in my game (i.e can’t BF slide) I have had 2 surgeries in last 2 yrs and haven’t been playing a lot. I’m back trying to play full time but finding I’m having trouble with my balance when trying to see recover back to my skates.
