    Great review! Brings back memories. In the Navy on the Gulf Coast pre- and post-Katrina working at Stennis Space Center. Went to Gulfport all the time. We listened to the train go by our house for 3 years -- some nights I thought it was coming through the bedroom!

    If you are in the Washington, DC area there are two RV parks available. One is on Joint Base Andrews (JBA). JBA is just outside the Washington Beltway but the campground is on the opposite side of the base from the beltway. We have not stayed there but the proximity to Washington by itself is attractive. The other RV Park is at the Solomons Recreation Center at the South end of Maryland Route 4. We have stayed there several times. Some sites are paved and others are gravel but most are relatively level. They have a mixture of full hook-up sites, water and electric sites, and primitive sites. It is a large campground with many people who full time right there. We stayed there for 6 months last year (2018). Keep up the good work and hope to see you some time.

    We just stayed there two nights ago. We were in site 58 in the old section. It is right next to the road. The noise was bothersome. We did hear the train whistles but we didn’t find them as annoying as the road noise. We’ve lived a couple places near trains. Just background noise for us. We only stayed one night but would like to go back and explore the area. We will try to get in the new section next time. Thanks for the review. Safe travels.

    Thank you for your service. Love to watch your videos being a 20 yr Navy retiree as well. Looking at full-time RVing in 1.5 yrs pending a completion of 20 yrs of Civilian Service. Two questions I was hoping you could answer.
    1. Being a retiree did you stay with Tricare Select or Prime and do you have a Supplement insurance to go along with Tricare? This would be a great topic for a video in the future.
    2. Did you ever consider Thousand Trails as another possible campground to add to your options of places to stay?
    Thank you, Joe

    • @todayissomeday
      @todayissomeday  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We are Tricare Select but we had switched to that before hitting the road. There are many ways to travel after retiring from the military. We return to our home base of San Antonio for all routine visits every 6-8 months. (Phil needs injections in his back and knee). But you could return yearly. We have friends who switched to the VA system and just go to the closest VA when they need to see the doc.
      We have considered TT but our monthly average has been less than $20 so we haven't spent the money but we may need to bite the bullet while traveling in the north east. We will see how it ends up.

We stayed there two weeks and loved the peace and quiet. Also, check out the store called “Treasure Chest “ in Gulf port. -Federal law requires trains to provide warning 1/4 miles from all public road crossings at grade with a long-long-short-long horn blast and continue the warning until the lead locomotive fully occupies the road crossing. So, blame your former employer for all the noise. Good information on the RV parks at the base...thanks!

      The RV park at NAS Pt Mugu is pretty nice. It's basically an improved parking lot, but the location is what counts on that one. For all intents and purposes it's just across the street from one of the beaches. Can get aircraft noise. The office is right next door at the Recreation Motel.
      The CBC Port Hueneme Park, ehh not up to snuff.
      Camp Pendleton has nice RV facilities, but aren't cheap. Apparently the idea was to make it comparable in cost to the nearby State Parks. @@todayissomeday

    Excellent info. I wasn't aware of the network of military installations that offer RV camping. Might be an obscure subject, but I'd be interested in hearing more on your take with using them versus other commercial sites. Hard to get a spot? Need to book it way out, or can you occasionally just drop in? I realize that time of year would be a big impact. Thanks for the content. (Retired USAF. We call it a Base Exchange, BX) :)

    • @todayissomeday
      @todayissomeday  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We love staying on the bases and will do it as often as we can. It is usually much cheaper with full hookups. There was only one occasion in which I could not get reservations and that was because I was booking for the month. I usually make sure to book at least a month out to ensure I have a spot. Retirees can only book out as much as a year in advance.

      Is there a main contact number or website that offer these rv sites and to find out eligibility for retirees?

      @@sandrasaxton5352 Unfortunately, no. I wish there was. If you find a base on campendium or allstays then google the RV park. You can get the number that way.

    If you’re near fort Benning Columbus Georgia check out the infantry museum. Free but accept donations. Our son graduated there this past September. Big base and very nice museum and thank you both for your service and your son as well. My son went Army......oh well 😄

    Did you guys run a stop sign and a red light? Just wondered... Us Air Force retirees don't do that.

      @todayissomeday  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No stop signs. But if you look real close at that first light it was totally red. Although, Phil's opinion differs! lol

      At this time only active duty, retired, and those with 100% disability. There are a few that allows veterans to stay. I will let you guys know when we stay at one of those parks.

      @@todayissomeday Air Force is Base Exchange (BX). I believe all use Commissary. Also Keesler has a FamCamp. $20/night. Nice. Some sights with shade. Located off base, but on Gov property. Fenced and Quiet.
