India is like an active combat zone. Everywhere you go, it feels like a bomb went off there 3 minutes ago. Its just utter chaos. The event horizon , where the laws of physics breaks down. Combine the lack of order and organization with the complete lack of sanitation and citizens totally oblivious of civic sense, and overt corruption, makes india a tough tourist destination. Tourists are taking their well deserved vacation time and spending hard earned money. So why should they go to a place of disorder and lack of basic cleanliness? There is no tranquility anywhere in india. I wish it could be changed.
I came back from Thailand in October, by far best decision. Not just cheap but so clean and organized. I will never goto goa ever again, especially the taxi maifa.
I recently visited India after 14 years and was shocked by how much it had deteriorated. There was a pervasive sense of decay and disorganization. Sidewalks became cluttered with mini shrines, adding to the chaos. It’s not an experience most people would willingly want to repeat.
Ya, this uncle is stuck in patriotism. Talk about infrastructure and cleanliness and basic hygiene and civic sense. We are charging foreigners higher at tourist attractions.
I just returned from Goa and by god promise the infrastructure of Goa is in a mess. The roads are all dug up and all pot holes full of dust. The power is at all times are not there. Every where you see cows around on the streets. Pls you need to uplift things.
I can tell why the tourist is down in India from my own experience travelling to the country. A, the unprecedented level of pollution B, the pestering of the local gift shops in front of every attractions. I love local markets and I always visited them when I travelled to the areas. It was a nightmare to walk around anywhere in India and worst was in the market places. I was glad to have a chance to see India and its many palaces but it was an exhausted experience by the end.
Lol what about men safety? In Mumbai a woman can roam at night bt in usa, UK cities can't. Btw I stay in usa. And here after 8 pm roaming at night is not 100% safe.
Like Sir ji said...In Goa, there are no taxi apps like Ola & Uber..whereas in Thailand and Bali...Bolt & Grab are helping many foreigners... That's very important..Because Backpackers & Solo travelllers are also important in boosting tourism..hope INDIA more Scandanavian & Russian Tourists during Winters..
@Nandan: we just arrived from Goa after spending 8 days which we do every year, unfortunately beaches are dirty, litter everywhere you go, no clean footpaths to walk, Goa miles not working in almost all locations, prices of food and accommodation is very high for their sub standard services, roads are bad, honking, scams...many reasons which make Indians and foreigners consider visiting Goa.
What u expect from a country which failed to stop gutka😂😂. Also nyc, Tokyo, Amsterdam have more crowd than Mumbai, Delhi. Still many tourists roam there.
@@Sankkhamkar10 this! Tokyo with its size and population should be mega dirty and disorganized. But Japan is fantastic, despite the crowds, there is no chaos, no dirt. It ultimately comes down to the people and their culture.

Sadly, this Goan fellow is still living in his own dream world which is "DENIAL MODE". This mindset will cause more and more harm to Goa tourism. Personally, I used to travel to Goa almost every alternate year. However, after seeing Thailand and Indonesia, I regret why didn't I go out of India before. Hooliganism of taxi drivers, poor value for money and unhygienic are the few who are going to destroy Goa even more in the future. With similar (or even less) money you get a mind-blowing experience, best-in-class service, hospitality, and cleanliness. Most importantly, Goa hype was created using Bollywood. Most of the people coming out from tier 1 or 2 cities got to know about Goa from Bollywood movies only. Time is ticking and if Bollywood also shifts to foreign locations, Goa will become a city with a lot of shut-down hotels.
An Indian friend in Kolkata on online said "Bollywood is India, and India is Bollywood". Many Indians are influenced by Bollywood movies and it's culture. What happened to Indian classical music? It seems many of the vocalists sing Bollywood movie songs, instead of their own lyrics.
I have been to India many times and love many aspects of the country and will go again but the infrastructure and lack of ease of travel makes me think twice.
Goa tourism has fallen thanks to the migrants from U. P, Bihar, Karnataka etc who learn konkani and scam the tourist and they think these people are locals. Also government has sold prime land to business man from Delhi, Mumbai etc who flot every rules build resort and charge heavy rates. I can go no and on
We were recently in India and found services 'wanting'. Travelled to Delhi via Mumbai, with Air India. At Mumbai Airport, we had to collect our luggage and RESUBMIT our luggage to connecting flight to Delhi!! Wow. Many issues arise when sightseeing, using local services, leaves much to be desired.

There are cleaner destinations than India. People in India do not realize the dirt and squalor around them is an issue. Who would want to visit an unorganized and dirty place?
Vietnam is"very clean".... The first thing Nandani mentioned! Yes, that is the thing that India needs to urgently address. It's just not acceptable, and now with increased domestic tourists, who have no idea about not polluting the environment.....😢 Also India is now focused on marriage venues, and NOT foreign tourism. Fix your toilets, take cows off the street, break the taxi mafia, and tell hotel chains to index their pricing to competing international locations. You should be ashamed that countries hundred times smaller are getting more tourists ( Singapore, etc.). Major tourist-based countries get numbers many multiples of their host population. A million tourists for a country with population of 1.5 billion ... pathetic
China has recently granted visa free status for 38 countries for up to 30 days, and transit visa exemption for 54 countries up to 240 hours. It really helped in attracting foreign tourists to visit China. India may consider the same measure.
I visited Manali and surround in Himachal recently. It's a paradise in terms of breathtaking scenes. Can easily rival Kashmir or Europe. However, some of the road infra is not good, garbage problems, lack of sensitizing the local trade and towns people. Air pollution in such a pristine Himalayan area is starting to affect badly even at a height of 7000 feet!! Visited the Lahaul- Spiti district, which is stunning and the amazing 'Atal Tunnel' at a height of 10,171 ft ....crisp air ....yet, the air inside the 9 km tunnel was full of diesel fumes and pollution! While the infra development is impressive these environmental and policy failures need to be addressed urgently!

Vagamon Hill station is fully crowded with traffic jams by private vehicles and one could not travel from one place to another. Central place of Kottayam is jammed with traffic and no road space. Only place less crowded was Kumarakom in Kerala. Being a middle class family after spending a good chunck of savings for tourism, India does not offer peaceful tourist locations.

I agree with most of things that you said, but it’s not just India that is dirty. There are a lot of countries even Vietnam or Thailand is dirty maybe not as bad as India. It has been subjected to a lot of these videos like people like to start a trend of showing everything dirty in india. Mainly done by arab countries for siding with Israel. there are lots and lots of clean places in India, which are not shown that’s what’s causing the damage to India’s reputation
Ive wanted to go to India many times but have been talked out of it everytime by friends. Then i watched vloggers and it does really seem like a bad place to visit. The reason is as a family, we dont like tourist spots and want to visit local places and explore the life, food and culture of the locals. The problem in india is that it seems unsafe. From every houtuve video ive seen she would not feel safe there at all. The food seems like it can be quite dangerous to try the most local delicacies. It also seems rife with scammers, beggars and harassing mobs. The vehicle traffic also seems like utter chaos and traversing the country seems difficult due to poor infrastructure. For us its not about price. We go to singapore and Iceland and we go to Vietnam and Indonesia. But something about India has a much worse image than any of the other Asian countries we've travelled to, including cambodia. Ive still not been to india and can only go off of these travelloggers so I may be highly misinformed. But this is why Ive kept my family away. I do still want to travel their one day to see all the history and culture their but I think its something I'd do by myself or with some male friends only.
No you did the right thing and although your fears are not entirely true, it is a pretty unpredictable place. Like a jungle, it could be a memorable trip if you manage to come out fine with beautiful experiences or it could easily turn into a disaster.
I am a Singaporean woman who had just returned from a solo holiday in New Delhi and Jaipur. I have had a great time in India though many of my Singaporean friends will never go there. India suffers from image issues, real or perceived. India has a long way to change the world's impression of the country. By the way, the visa is quite an obstacle. For me, i am definitely going back again: to Mumbai and Jodhpur.
yes agree with you, just went to Pattaya in Thailand, everyone clean and tidy , only issue was some indian men urinating on the beach and some throwing rubbish on floor. they took their habits abroad. Thailand is beautifully clean, hardly any rubbish on floor, no issues with finding clean toilets everywhere. airport officals polite and no visa needed,
I’m Canadian, I have traveled India 11 times, yes the prices have gone up but the standard is still very low, nothing works correctly, beaches? Ya garbage is dumped directly onto the beach. Washrooms? Public washrooms in Delhi built for the commonwealth games across from the rail station where broken run down 6 months later, what a waste of time and money.
Appreciate for bringing this topic up for a discussion.I think more such public discussions should be on the rise to expose the filthy and corrupt politicians and officials who literally failed to maintain and improve this country's Infrastructure. Improving the Nation's infrastructure remains a key to a steady growth in tourism while the competitive countries are way ahead in terms of Infrastructure and Hospitality.
For tourists to come to India, their experience right from when landing and getting out of the airport to reaching their destinations, then use of facilities as a tourist like taxis, restaurants, sightseeing and visits. Also the environment on cleanliness, infrastruture and safety. There needs to be improvements in all these areas.
India has its own charm but I would refrain from coming there because the moment you step out of your hotel or airport, everyone seems to be dishonest and out to scam you, these includes Taxis, Guides, Autorickshaw drivers and even hotels or restaurants. People aren't polite in almost all the places of India (south part seem better) and there is no civic sense and people lack social etiquette, including queuing up for one's turn, driving was like I have survived 😂.... honking....the country has lot to offer for tourists as in spots but the people and facilities, etiquette have to improve there overall.... sorry if I hurt anyone..😢
Even after 77 years of independence a Fhilthy destopian world like infrastructure will loose on world level😂😂😂I lost hope in this country and now I have started to criticize this country 😅😅
I got it. If your government cleans up the streets, I'll take the family. My children complain about your poor sense of hygiene. Maybe they are right. Poverty is no excuse. Dogs bark at my grandchild. Why street dogs? Where are the kennels? When I was a child, there were no street dogs and hawker menace. Marketing will not improve anything. I'm born in India. LAW & ORDER, mate.
No country keeps cleaning up their streets all the time. The problem is with the pathetic self centered public who give a damn about their country and fellow citizens.
1)Obnoxious hotel rates 2)local Taxi mafia who loot the tourists, no Ola nor Uber. 3) Lack of infrastructure, roads, encroachment in tourist areas, lack of walkways.Airport at Mopa way away from tourists hot spots. This entails heavy pickups and drop charges. 4) Scamsters at every nook, unhelpful and rude locals, corrupt police hassle tourists . 5) Restaurants and Shacks serving Crap cuisine at extraordinary prices. The Goa Government and Goemkars are responsible for this predicament.
I love visiting India. India has so much to offer. Cleanness is the biggest issue in my opinion. Shops/people throw trash right on the spot, on the streets and beaches…etc. Please don’t rely on someone will clean the garbage. When it rains the sewer is clogged and street is so difficult to walk on. Imaging you have to walk on the wet and dirty street bare feet to visit the temple. When I want to spend more time on the beach to enjoy it, the garbage discourages me from doing that. I even saw garbages in the desert when I had the desert tour from Jaisalmer. If every place can let the tourists stay a bit longer, the tourists are likely to spend more and it’s good for the locals.
Pricing depends on Demand - Supply ratio ...if Demand decreases fares of hotel , taxi & airfare will all come down ..... its good that Indian Tourists have wake up to this & changing their destinations - we will wait for price to come down till then we will visit thailand , vietnam or kazakhstan
India is too dirty and too crowded. Everyone wants to trick you into spending more. Also, historic sites just look shabby. It needs deep clean and proper maintenance. Poor south American country gives better experience half the cost. Not worth it.

There is no tranquility anywhere in india. I wish it could be changed.
You've never been to kerala or Northeast India then

I recently visited India after 14 years and was shocked by how much it had deteriorated. There was a pervasive sense of decay and disorganization. Sidewalks became cluttered with mini shrines, adding to the chaos. It’s not an experience most people would willingly want to repeat.
Not only tourism in crises, may other areas are in crises. India is sinking & not shining anymore.
"anymore"?? When did "India" shine? LoL.

Scared of rapists scammers loot in India
Most foreign tourists say India is too filthy to visit for a vacation. I don't know what India can do about this.
It will take atleast 2 decades to change...
While true. Its a bit exaggerated. Lots of places in India like Kerala, himalayas, ladakh and north east are very clean

Agreed 👍

Its not just cost. Experience also matters. Cleanliness and attitude of people in our country is another reason i think.
Come to China. 240hrs visa free. Safe, clean and no scam in transportation.

Every tourist in their recent visit to goa have faced harassment from taxi drivers…and here he flatly denies it
See the dirty and crowded place and rude people well don’t need a reason why tourist are not coming price is not the only reason
Indian Minister for Tourism should take a trip to Japan, Vietnam and China to see WHY foreigners are visiting those countries BUT NOT India.
Travelled in India for about one month and had to leave because of infection caused by dirty water. Nice place but just too dirty, however Indians themselves do not find this a problem somehow…sad
Our body is immune to it so we don't think it's problem....
Not really. Indians do find this a problem but the politicians at the top don’t care. Therefore people get desensitized
They will never change!
They have been talking for about 50 years! Another 50 years and 50 years !..... This is an Indian culture?
Taxi Mafia, Rude Local's behaviour, water sport scam , Scooty Scam, Baga & Calaungut cleanliness.

Vietnam is"very clean".... The first thing Nandani mentioned! Yes, that is the thing that India needs to urgently address. It's just not acceptable, and now with increased domestic tourists, who have no idea about not polluting the environment.....😢
Also India is now focused on marriage venues, and NOT foreign tourism. Well what do you expect!

India has a long way to change the world's impression of the country. By the way, the visa is quite an obstacle.
For me, i am definitely going back again: to Mumbai and Jodhpur.
Who would visit a country where cows are roaming the streets, roads are filthy, air pollution and people are urinating and openly defacating outside.
yes agree with you, just went to Pattaya in Thailand, everyone clean and tidy , only issue was some indian men urinating on the beach and some throwing rubbish on floor. they took their habits abroad.
I agree, but there are places which are clean in India, Kerala, for example

1)Obnoxious hotel rates
2)local Taxi mafia who loot the tourists, no Ola nor Uber.
High costs and constrained supply in affordable transports and hotels are affecting the tourism sector amid economic slowdown
Keep India clean.

India cannot even have basic sanitation for its own people who are so poor, don't expect to be able to host tourists. Tourist want to enjoy and can't when see such poverty and unsanitary conditions. Tourists want to it home alive.
