    This has to be my favourite video of yours. I love all your videos and watch them multiple times but this is my fav. It shows how we all make mistakes. It showed how amazing you are as at that point I would have been ugly crying and telling the hubby to put my sewing machine on ebay 🤣 but the ultimate professional you are went with it and showed us how to fix it. You rock girl 😍😍

    love watching your videos - and love the way we get to see when stuff doesn't work out and how you work round it - show's you are human :) As always love seeing the star of the show (Ben) and guest appearance of Connor at the end. Anyway - cats are always hungry - we call it Shiny Bowl Syndrome - once they see even a tongue space on the bowl - to them it needs refilling! :) Alison (London, UK)

    Now that I see your question to me again, I understand what you were asking. I cut my vinly for the piping, then laid double sided tape down the middle and along the edges. I stuck the plastic piping down the middle to the tap and then stuck the outside tape together. I did end up sewing the piping before I added it to the bag. Then I basted the piping to my panels before I sewed them together.

    I was just watching this video (3/2021) and saw you struggling with the piping. I tip...when you are stitching your piping together in a circle, you must add to the overall length the width of the strip of vinyl or fabric you are using. So if you need a finished length of say 60" and your strip is say 2", your strip musy be cut to 62" before sewing them together. I do this all the time with my quilt binding when finishing my quilt.

    • @TBoneWinters

      Yes, this is correct. The ends would then be stitched on the diagonal.

    Hi Lauren, try Amodex on the mark. It’s recommended by Sharpie to remove permanent marker even! I use it on marks I make on quilts when I use Frixion pens to prevent ghosting or marks from coming back. It’s very gentle. Love your videos! You’re an inspiration 😸

  • @adonahandbagstudio1418
    @adonahandbagstudio1418 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have a walking foot industrial machine. Unfortunately, I could not find a zipper foot that is compatible with my machine. As for the piping foot, I have no idea what size to purchase; so I knew that I would not be able to sew close enough to the welting cord.
    I solved my problem by using glue to secure the cording when wrapping it with vinyl and thus eliminated the need to sew to keep the cording in place. Prepping the cording in this manner gave the illusion of tightly sewn piping even if the foot could not get close enough to the piping.
    In addition, plastic cording is not only a decorative detail. It also adds structure to a bag. You might want to keep that in mind when you select your choice of foam and/or interfacings. I hope that helps.
    Thank you for sharing your journey in making this bag. I love watching you sew.

    I could be wrong and also I haven’t watched the whole video yet......as regards the piping. 57 inches is correct for then plastic part but when you joined the “bias tape” it essentially took 2 inches off. It’s like binding of a quilt. So maybe 59 inches of the vinyl would work be 2 inches would be used to join on the diagonal. Who knows if that makes sense or not, but just my thoughts as I watched the struggle. Love to watch you make bags and see all the diff tools and items you use.

    • @SewGurl58
      @SewGurl58 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      leiameredith81 I was looking to see if someone made this comment. So to do the bias join you need the width of the strip on both sides of the point where the length terminates.

    Hi Lauren Just watched your video, you should be proud of this bag , what you went through and didnt give up, and it has tuned out great, put something with some weight inside it, help it settle down a bit and it should be fine , I find that when things Ive made go a ittle wonky, try something it has a bit weight to it inside for a couple of days it will settle, It been late for me to watch live now, as you 5 hours behind me, I miss watching the lives

    Okay I just have to tell you how much I admire your tenacity. I mean I would have thrown that bag across the room!
    That being said, it's takes hella nerve to have that camera right down in the midst of all that pulling and sewing in the round. The way you handle pressure is inspiring and it is teaching me not to be so dramatic when I have something to finish. (I am soon to be 46 years old so even people with life experience can learn from younger generations.)
    Also my daughter and I are bonding over our shared interest in sewing so it's been a truly rewarding experience so far and I look forward to making all kinds of stuff and things for my family including my dog haha. Which brings me to something else I wanted to ask..
    Do you ever make Ben and Connor anything? Bowties? Collars? Toys?

    Lauren, can you make a video about how you change the machine oil? My husband bought me a Juki, (HZL-LB 5020) from eBay and I don’t know where is the oil or how to do it!!! The information book doesn’t say anything about oil, so I am curious about it. Anticipated thanks.
