  • South Downs Way | Wild Camp on Butser Hill | Wild Camping UK
    (This video does contain some wind noise.. I forgot the wind muff for my microphone.)
    I met up with ‪@Linleys‬ for a short hike on the South Downs Way, with the goal of a wild camp on Butser Hill. We walked through Queen Elizabeth Country park and then up on to the hill. seeking out the trig point on Butser Hill. then we explored the hill for any viable wild camping locations.. and found the perfect spot! in an old (possibly) WW2 crater. with ourselves set up to see the sunset and the sunrise and the lights of Petersfield town.. the wind picked up and the temperature dropped somewhat so it ended ups quite a cold camp out. but it was a glorious view.
    I used the British army Gortex Bivi and my Tomshoo Poncho as a tarp.
    a Kymit static V luxe insulated sleeping pad and a 3 season down sleeping bag.

    What a wonderful trip! That looked a wonderful trek, and a part of the south downs way I've yet to experience! Your shelter, if small, seemed to do the trick, definitely needed though, you could tell the wind was relentless!

      I think my original plan was just to bivi. But the wind was surprisingly chilly. So the tarp I had for a ground sheet got sacrificed.

    Beautiful place to camp, the 5 Bells would become 6 or more after a few beers.
    The 'bomb' crater looks more like a robbed out barrow (burial mound) hard to say from the video but it's certainly the place they'd put one. Or a round house, but it's a bit exposed.

    • @CampLifeBushcraft
      @CampLifeBushcraft  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you might be correct about the mound. when I was a kid our farm had bomb craters in the field which probably made my mind go there first. although our craters were much deeper.
      stunning place nonetheless.
