Must Watch: Factory Ford Idle Air Control Valve Configuration with Foxbody Holley Terminator X

  • After installing the Holley Terminator X EFI Kit for Foxbody Mustangs (937F), you may notice the car runs horribly during cranking, after startup, and when coming off the throttle. If you are using the stock Ford Idle Air Valve and you did not explicitly configure your tune to use the Ford 5.0L Idle Air Valve using the method shown in this video, the idle air valve is never being opened. This is the absolute first thing you should do when tuning your foxbody with this kit.

    Do you have any info on whether or not this still needs done since holley re-released the 937F kit after it was discontinued for a while? The reason I ask is that I just got my terminator X installed last night, went through the wizard on the included lcd display, and the car idled and revved perfectly - at least when warm. It surged a good bit at first, but I couldn't tell if it was because it was cold (and thus needing these changes described in your video), or if it needed some time to "learn" since it was the very first start with the holley. Will mess with it more over the coming days, but wasn't sure if you had any insight into any changes holley may have made. For what its worth, I did hook up my laptop and it did show GM stepper in the IAC settings. I'll make your changes and try again, but was sort of thinking "If it aint broke don't fix it"

    So do you have to wire up the output control wires to the iac harness, After you put in the spot?? That part got confusing

  • @PaulGerstenberger
    @PaulGerstenberger 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you aren't using the Fox Body kit, do you need to install a flyback diode in the harness? Seems like I'm getting a ton of noise when I have the IAC hooked up. The handheld buzzes, and so does my Dakota Digital control box for my instrument cluster - which is not connected to the ECU at all...

    What if a boost solenoid requires that 4th output spot?

    • @LeechMotorsports
      @LeechMotorsports  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Then you either need to switch to a different IAC Style that doesn't require this output, or you need to upgrade with the expansion module that gives the Terminator X extra I/O. I don't think that even existed when this video was made. Part number: 554-165

    Can this be done with out the 100 cable. ? Using the micro usb from handheld?

  • @jessehartley3136
    @jessehartley3136 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I tried this and as soon as I started adding throttle or 2200RPM it would hang and not drop back down. I had to kill the engine to get it to return to idle. It seems to run fine other than cold starts with the frequency at "1" not changing the pin map. Why would engine RPMs hang up with the new setting?

    • @LeechMotorsports
      @LeechMotorsports  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If no pin mapping is assigned, then the valve does nothing. If you do setup the pin map, but leave the frequency at 1, the valve will make all kinds of noise and will not work correctly at all. But if your rpms are hanging up when setting the frequency and pin mapping correctly, then it means you either have too much air coming into the engine because throttle body blade is open too far, your iac hold position is too high, or the rpms above idle to start ramp is too low.

      @@LeechMotorsports Thanks. I will adjust my idled screw back some. I have to keep the idle at 1000rpm to run smooth. I also noticed in my Terminator x software that it will say I am at 700rpm but my dash gauge will say 1000rpm, so maybe I need to adjust down the idle screw with your pin map settings. Does that sound correct? I do have the Trick flow 170cc twisted wedge heads top end kit and a vortec V3 supercharger with 47lb injectors. Its in a 1965 cobra replica. I have watched all your videos and they are super helpful!!

    • @LeechMotorsports
      @LeechMotorsports  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you say “your dash gauge” are you referring to a stock gauge in the car or a pro dash? If you are talking about the vehicle’s oem instrumentation, I would strongly encourage you to focus, instead, on the readings from the efi system.

  • @joshuacornelius1389
    @joshuacornelius1389 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you have to do this after the vehicle is all hooked up?

    • @LeechMotorsports
      @LeechMotorsports  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure understand the question. Ultimately the first tune you should ever try to run with this efi system should have this setting in place before first startup, assuming of course you are running that idle air valve.

  • @kylekoch4815

    With having a 302 fox is it ok to run a single coil without a 6AL box with the Holley terminator x?

    • @LeechMotorsports
      @LeechMotorsports  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You shouldn’t need an aftermarket ignition box for most basic builds, assuming you are using the tfi distributor. Ignition box requires for use with dual sync.

    • @kylekoch4815
      @kylekoch4815 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LeechMotorsports I have been using a stock distributor with the steel gear on then end. And been having people tell me I need to put the 6AL box back in and others saying no. I still have the ignition coil.

    • @LeechMotorsports
      @LeechMotorsports  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ignition box isn’t a requirement when running a tfi setup. Only required with dual sync setups and other more exotic configurations.

    Can you do this on controller? Or have to use laptop? Also how do you transfer it to controller?

    • @LeechMotorsports
      @LeechMotorsports  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The laptop is your friend. If you do not have the CAN USB cable to connect your laptop directly to the Holley ECU, then you would have to use the SD card to transfer the tune from the laptop to the card. Then from the cars to the ecu.

    Do you have to wire the iacv to the output harness?

    • @LeechMotorsports

      @@britdog15 I was wondering this also. I have yet to check my actual output wire on the harness but I suspect like yours it will go nowhere( ie free output for use on anything ) So where does the pwm signal come from in the foxbody harness and why does the output need to be pinned this way? Just trying to figure out how to properly make this work as described. The logic seem correct just not getting the output pin out swap with no actual wiring change.
