    Re sunbeds around the pool saying we should police ourselves… sadly the people who hog the sunbeds already know they are doing wrong and won’t even think of doing the right thing.
    I really think the onus is on the hotels to sort this out, I agree it’s not nice for staff but surely there will always be someone who could do the job well and have a thicker skin .
    In Tenerife in Dec we had a man ( member of staff ) who walked around once an hour with a shopping trolly removing towels and bags that had been unattended for the last hour, in between he watched and kept the pool area tidy .
    Everyone loved him and it made such a difference.
    Room numbers on sunbeds would be a good idea ?

    I've noticed small hidden coves in the UK are quite often left trashed as well 🙁 I always end up cleaning up after them myself, my wife goes mad lol but I can't stand litter.

      True, but we also don't want to drive loads of people to beaches that are not catering for visitors... it's just not sustainable.

    • @LoremIpsum1970

      @@MallorcaUnderTheSun Unfortunately, when that word starts being used (Sustainability) it means two things: introuducing or raising charges and restricting access (ie privaledge and exclusion). People only need to read the papers and Internet, I get half a dozen weekly for Mallorca, it's full of quieter places to go to and secret beaches. On an Island that's gridlocked and saturated spreading people around won't fix things. Like I don't think it's realistic with 'only locals only on beaches on Sundays' as you're only going to have the 'I paid for this' attitude from some people.

    • @MallorcaUnderTheSun
      @MallorcaUnderTheSun  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LoremIpsum1970 I’m just highlighting that the beaches are at their most busy on a Sunday (not saying locals only - not by any means) but you will find it a more busy experience. Plus hiking or driving to a little Cala which is also packed isn’t necessarily the idyllic experience people may think it is ….

    • @LaChicaconSuerte-1111
      @LaChicaconSuerte-1111 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MallorcaUnderTheSun tbh most people won´t bother to drive/hike etc to the out of the way coves and beaches, especially when there are few or no facilities there and it´s only a small proportion of people who will make the effort to go to them. They tend to be younger people, usually who have cars and who want to explore the island for the day or camping for a few days. There is nothing wrong with that. I´ve found that most of the ones who do, do care about not leaving trash and keeping the beaches unspoilt, and most hear about these small coves and beaches from friends or just by driving around. There are also instagram accounts that mention some of the nicer ones and I think there is nothing wrong with that.
      Quite honestly, I think the main issue is that Mallorca needs to stop being so greedy and encouraging and allowing higher number of tourists to visit than it can actually cope with. That is the main issue. Equally with both airlines and hotels, they know exactly what they are doing when they accept more bookings than they can cope with. They know that their standards slip and that they end up providing a lower standard of service than what people are paying for, but all they care about is raking in cash...same goes for the sunbed situation...if you know most of your guests want to just lie by the pool all day and don´t have enough sunbeds, what do you expect?
      There are also cultural differences. At one five star hotel I once stayed at near Marbella, there were literally two different pool areas which seemed to have self-segregated and one had only English people being loud, splashing in the pool, a few lying on sunbeds, but talking really loudly to each other and to people in the pool, and the other, where I ended up for peace and quiet, was all Germans, completely silent, pool completely empty - so no one in the actual pool, all lying on sunbeds and ordering the occasional drink from the pool bar, which was brought to them, so no one actually got up. It was very interesting. It was pretty much the same in the hotel in Magaluf just a week ago- the one with the suspended swimming pool...noisy English people in the pool talking extra loud with people who were not in the pool, splashing around in an exaggerated way and generally acting like they owned the place, while the French, Germans, etc lay silently on sunbeds.

    The hotels complaining about towels on the bed are very happy booking in far more people into the hotel than there are sunbeds available lol so I do have sympathy with those that can't get beds who just want to relax on holiday... I've noticed it's not really a problem for me anymore as it only really affected the budget hotels when I couldn't afford better than 3 star... Since I've been able to afford better hotels, they always have enough sunbeds, it's never a problem... It looks like the industry is pay-2-win 🤔

    Currently on this lovely island staying at the Blau Colònia Sant Jordi. I was saddened to see the amount of litter on the road leading up to the beach 😢 Just plastic bags left expecting someone else to clear it up! And over flowing bins.. Apart from that it's been a lovely holiday so far and I agree with the responsibility tourist, cleaning up as we go and if not using the sunbed taking the towels off after an hour. Another great video Alex 👏👏👏

      I'm saddened by the amount of litter in the UK. Growing up in the 70s and 80s there used to be litter adverts on the TV, and my parents always taught us to take our litter home. Put it in our pockets till we saw a bin. I, too, taught my children this.
      I remember when my son was younger, 30 years ago, asking his grandmother why she had so much litter in her front garden. People bought snacks from the garage opposite. People finished their snacks, but the bin was back at the garage, so they threw it on the floor. He was shocked even as a toddler to heard People littered. Since then in the 90s I notice so much more litter and I can't believe People don't see how ugly this looks. It's like People think there are more important issues. Okay there are, but keeping Britian tidy has stuck with me! The landscape is beautiful when it's litter free!

    Having worked in hospitality for several years, primarily hotels, I can say that vacationers have become more entitled and more aggressive. There are always some that are true delights, but people want to do what they want and to be given free things. It has been very disappointing. I absolutely agree about responsible tourism. Leave things as you found them. Don't leave trash for others to pick up, even at a hotel. Be respectful of nature, the mallorcans, other guests, and businesses. Otherwise, Mallorca may end up doing tourism like Portofino, Sitka, and Juno Alaska and limit how many tourists can visit the island per day.

    I’ll add how bad Palma airport is if you’re arriving as a family. Arrived Saturday there were two flights from Luton. One person in a booth stamping passports. Around few hundred waiting.A lady managing the queue then causes a mini riot by opening the barriers to new arrivals and leaving those who’d been queuing for around half hour prevented from passing through! I went through the auto barrier and I couldn’t believe there were three guys sitting there twiddling their thumbs. Utter chaos.

    I must say, having hotels that are for adults only is actually a great thing. I think there should also be completely smoking free hotels.
    Yes, I definitely paid way too much for each of the few taxis I had to take while on the island and it was because of traffic. It was significantly higher than what I paid for those same journeys a few years ago.
    I had to return to the island because I had to collect some of my things that I had kept with a friend from the time when I used to live in Mallorca (for six years), but tbh would not have gone otherwise. Still, it was nice to see the sea and feel the sun and sand and see some nice views, eat some nice food, and so on...but as usual, the disrespectful and negative behaviours were all still there and as always, a disappointment.
    It was even more striking this time, as I arrived in Palma and had to deal with cigarette smoke filling the airport in Palma (what´s that all about? I thought smoking in doors was not permitted....an extremely rude and aggressive taxi driver, overpriced hotel rooms that were not even clean! and so on and so forth) after a week in a city in the south of France where the people were so polite, well-mannered, friendly, that it was a world apart.
    Mallorca doesn´t want tourists? No problem! We have a lot of other places to go :)

      Totally agree!!! That irritated me too. I have been visiting those hidden beaches for nearly 50 years. Fine don't promote hidden beaches if you don't want to but don't try to make people feel guilty for visiting them or getting a hire car.
      I like videos which give news or weather updates or recommendations, but these videos are getting a little bit like teacher telling you off and telling you what to do and where you should go. Getting a bit of a negative vibe tbh.
      I agree with promotng respecting places and not leaving littler etc but it is not up to anyone to tell people where they should or shouldn't go, whether they should hire a car and what time they should travel around!!
