hi. my name is Aju Philip Mathews Kashisho. I am the priest celebrating the Holy Qurbana. This Holy Qurbana (Qurbono)was celebrated in Manhattan at Lampman Chapel (Theological Seminary) on Sept. 15th, 2007 as the mark of the inauguration of Holy Cross Orthodox Mission in Manhattan. This Mission is affiliated with the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church of India and this clip (1 of 2) was uploaded under a different name as correctly pointed out by grvity33. I was not aware of the reposting...
I go to a Bulgarian Orthodox church, but went to a Syriac Liturgy a few years ago. It was all in Arabic, though, and I couldn't understand anything. If it was like this, it would have been just as beautiful. I pray for my Coptic and Syriac friends. May the Lord grant you all many years!
It is so beautiful and meaningful to be able to hear the Holy Qurbana in English. The anaphora is similar to that of the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, yet different enough to attract the ear of an Eastern Orthodox Christian. I too pray for the day when Eastern and Oriental Orthodox Christians will be united in full communion so that the world may truly know the glory of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. Love in Christ from an Eastern Orthodox (OCA) brother!
Superb....i pray that the full Holy Qurbana in English celebrated by this will b uploaded as soon as possible... He has very clear voice and the clarity of words - very good & superb...even if one do not have a book to follow , just by listening to this celebrant ( this Achen ) i feel i m already taking part in the Liturgy....pls kindly upload the full service celebrated by this Spiritual Father... God bless u, Achen...
May the Good Lord bless you, I hope you still attend church...No one can take that right away from you. Im sorry about the divorce too....You truly had a gift. Also if i ever become an achan, I hope I could look to you for help. Joel.
syrian orthodox church and malankara orthodox of church India same, only differnce coz of powerhunger between thirumenis Who is Great...Hope one day both fractions will unite...and praying for the unity of orthodox church in India.
Syrian orhtodox church and Malankara orthodox church of India same, only differnce, because of the power hunger between Thirumenis..Hope one day both factions will unite... and praying for the unity of Orthodox church in India.
see my comments below.. I pray that you are all well and appreciate the love and positive comments about the blessed gift that God had given me for a short time..
I am sorry that I didn't see this conversation earlier or I could have helped you clear your questions. This video was taken at Holy Cross in Manhattan and I (Aju Achen) was the one who celebrated the Liturgy. I am no longer considered a priest because of my divorce, but prior to being defrocked I was suspended for a year for the same divorce. Though, I appealed the decisions, I clearly have no voice in Kottayam and was denied. I ask you all to pray for me, ..
Dear my brother, The various name you have mentioned above is originaly represents the syrian church or syrian(syriac) orthodox church headed the patriarch of antioch in syria,it is came to be called as 'Malankara syrian orthodox church' in india.. jacobite ,orhodox are the two factions in the church.. so syrian orthodox church in india is one and same malankara orthodox church.. known in defferent name that's it.
Just for clarification my comment was referring to the original title which was about how hindu customs have influenced the Syrian Christians of Kerala
Also, as previously mentioned, the Syriac based liturgies share many common characteristics. my apologies to anyone who was offended. That was not the intent of the original uploading. Pray for me. God bless...
Please understand it is Qurbana in East Syriac & Qurbano in West Syriac. The Orthodox church split from its main steam and started using West Syric from the original East Syriac
There is no differene between worship/liturgy In Malankara Orthodox christians or Malankara Jacobite syrian Christians. tThese are two factions of syrian rite christians In India.
The title gives no validation of what the actually video shows. In fact this is re-uploaded version of a video whose original title is, "Holy Cross Qurbana." This clip shows a part of the Anaphora of St. James according to the West Syrian Rite used in the Syrian Orthodox Church and the Malankara Orthodox Church in India.
what time are your liturgies Abouna? I known Lampman chapel and had attended Orthodox Church of America services there a few times before settling into the Russian Church. I would love to come and visit, as I work nearby.
Dear Johny, The Syro-Malabar is probably the most latinized eastern rites under the Pope. Of all the different Qurbana kramams in Syro-Malabar 1968 version, 1980 version, 1990 version, Ernakulam style, Changanassery style.. none of them are the original East Syriac liturgy of the Malankara Church before it was forcefully brought under Rome by the Portugese. Now East Syriac and West Syriac are dialects of the same language; just like Trichur Malayalam is different from Trivandrum Malayalam.
this is interesting. i am coptic orthodox, i think its interesting how they use the symbols... and in our liturgy the priest is the only one who is allowed to shake the censer.
In Syriac Orthodox Church the deacons are allowed to take censer but if there is no deacon the one who is allowed to enter in the Holy Altar as an assistant are also permitted to take censer (as it is a great necessity)
The above mentioned Priest represents NOT THE SYRIAN ORTHDOX CHURCH OF INDIA as mentioned in the above caption, but belongs to the MALANKARA ORTHODOX CHURCH OF INDIA whose official name is MALANKARA ORTHODOX SYRIAN CHURCH. On the contrary, the SYRIAN ORTHDOX CHURCH OF INDIA, which is also reffered as THE MALANKARA JACOBITE SYRIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH or simply THE JACOBITE SYRIAN CHRISTIAN CHURCH in its official records.
he he, main stream eh? paranki de kude poyavarano main stream?? :p and pinne east syriac nte karyamonnum parayanda, suriyani ennoru bhasha enthane polum aryatha teams aane - enthina etre kashtapedunne latin bhasha upayaogiiku
Dear Johny, It is a fact that the undivided Malankara Church used East Syriac. The church was forcefully brought under Rome by the Portughese. The entire Malankara Church took the Coonen Cross oath and enthroned Marthoma I as Bishop. Then a group broke away from Marthoma I under Parambil Chandy, united with Rome..that is how the Syro-Malabar started in Kerala. Now you tell me who is the mainstream and who broke away from whom. Also East and West Syriacs are dialects of the same language.
according to the kalpana I received, as per the decision of the Synod (which I was not even asked to defend myself at) I am longer a priest of the Malankara Orthodox Church and cannot use the priestly vestments or the title. May I ask who this is?
Dear friends in One Christ but many factions: There are Seven churches using name MALANKARA including Two Orthodox, in addition Malankara Catholic too an Orthodox. All these are created gap by people. Jesus is heavenly Education more than what we believe religiously. Of all these and many more, American Indian rite of the Catholic is wonderful in their anscistoral tradition, Jesus and the Bible without foreign imposed rule. If seen their Qurbana you will surprise with Holy Spirit feeling.
May I know what is the complete text of the Aramaic/Syriac Sign of the Cross? Thank you. Whic is correct? b'shem abo, wabro uroho qadisho had aloho shariro. amin? or b'shem abo, wabro, uroho hayo qadisho had aloho shariro. amin? thanks
First one translates to 'Praise to the Father, the son and the holy spirit who is the true God' and second one to 'Praise to the Father, the son and the alive holy spirit who is the one true God'. Ruho hayo means the Holy spirit which is alive First version being used as a beginning prayer around the clock for all 7 prayers in a day, is more used by common people and 2nd one is generally used in Holy qurbono by the priest or when they bless someone. We make the sign of cross when ever we speak the Holy Trinity so we make the sign of cross for both of these versions. Both are correct and I think the first being more common is the answer to your question.
It's Bishmo d'abo wa d'bro wa d'ru7o qadisho, 7ad Aloho shariro amin. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, one true God, amen. The glory be is Shub7o l'abo wal'bro wal'ru7o qadisho, men 3olam wa3admo le3olmei 3olmin amin. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, from (sicut) eternity and now to the eternities of eternities amen.
Michael Allman - It was the Eucharistic prayers of the Syrian Orthodox Church, a Christian denomination based in Syria (though also with a large following in Israel, Lebanon, Jordon, Iraq, and India as well).
Dear, you are not trying to understand the language, why do you say Qurbana in Malayalam and why do you say Mar Thoma instead of Mor Thoma. The liturgical language used in Kerala was East Syriac and only after the split of the church the Jacobite started to use the West Syriac. The Qurbana is spelt in West Syriac as Qurbono and Mar as Mor. The Syro Malabar church uses the same liturgy of the original east Syriac.
Eastern Orthodox here. I yearn for the day where our churches may finally share communion again.
Likewise, brother.
From an Oriental Orthodox studying with the Eastern Orthodox.
This was very beautiful. First time in my life I heard Syriac Orthodox prayers in english. Very nice.

@bkmbkurian it's all the same One Holy Apostolic Church. May God be merciful upon us.
I believe this is the service of a priest of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church.. just to correct your mistake.
Dear ,
Qurbana ( actual word is Qurbono) means Mass ... it is a Syriac word..
I knew it was a Syriac liturgy, but I was wondering what particular parish this was. Thanks.

Beautiful worship in an English Qurbana after a long time. May I know which priest is this celebrant?

you cannot take the Holy Qurbana from the Orthodox Syrian Church and label it as Holy Qurbana from the Syrian Orthodox Church. Please change it.
@getyafreakon411
Reethe philippiansilo?? Avide ethe Sabha vibhajikana??
Where is this church? I think the Syriac churches near me do things mostly in Syriac.

Although the diocese doesn't acknowledge you as a priest anymore, that doesn't take away your actual priesthood does it?
How exactly do you justify your title with this video?
