The attention to detail with characters' eyes in this anime is something else. The way they change as each character experiences more and more, as they get more inspired by whatever ideals they cling to, and the darkness that fills them whenever they seem to embody just that: darkness. But when Thorfinn calls out Grott in this scene, his gaze has this strength to it that we've only ever seen in characters like Thorkell and Askeladd. As this show makes very clear, strength isn't everything; what you apply that strength to is what matters. Why this scene is so chill-inducing for me is because we are seeing Thorfinn fully embrace the ideals of his father with the strength of Thorkell, and THAT is something worthy of the clear, silent inspiration of the Vikings around him.
After Thorfinn withstanding 100 punches, I was expecting Drott (the red-haired guy with eyepatch) to go completely nuts. I'm surprised we wasn't a sore loser and even acknowledged Thorfinn's strength afterwards. It makes everything so more powerful.
With that Line "People are waiting for me" and also the furious Look from Thorfinn (@0:33) signalizes Drott and the other Wikings, that they stand in front of a True Warrior.
There are just so many things I love about this scene, Throfinn’s rage finally vocalizing once more, yet this time in demand of protection instead of destruction, Snake’s portraying both concern and admiration towards Thorfinn, Einar’s understanding that Thorfinn had made up his mind thus asking Snake to not interfere but yet not being able to look him in the eye cause he didn’t even have the guts like Thorfinn did, Olmar’s admiration towards Thorfinn as he saw him fight without actually fighting, the silence of the Vikings showing respect and my oh my that last punch from Drott admitted admiration and defeat, all in just 2 minutes, this is both great writing and great animation, love to see it

And not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that, and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!
What's so great about this scene that may go unnoticed is that Thorfinn switches back to a rough/Nordic/viking dialect and speech patterns, where as previously he had a polite, subservient way of speaking. All of the surrounding vikings recognize him as what he says to be after hearing this tone switch, which leaves them shocked.
This entire episode of Vinland Saga was just incredible. It's quite possibly the best episode I've seen of any anime in this entire spring season. Almost everything in this episode was great in my opinion. - The Vikings even Drott (who later apologised) having respect for Thorfinn as a true warrior. - Thorfinn finally saying the words his father Thors (and even us viewers) wanted him to say and believe in all this time. - Olmar admiring Thorfinn's determination and strength to fight for Ketil's farm without any violence. - Einar showing us the pain of an average person getting caught in the violence caused by ideals of people like Canute. - Canute's revealing his true ideals on how he will make his version of "Paradise" on earth.
“It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!” Thorfinn watched Rocky.
This whole season needs to have a separate section in the Anime Hall of Fame. Anger, emptiness, happiness, sadness, relief, violence, friendship, respect. It literally had everything. Thank you Mappa and Yukimura for this masterpiece.

I really love just how desperate and exhausted the other guy was by the end of it, like he didn’t even care about winning at that point he just wanted it to end
It’s absolutely on fire, and I mean at first they were placing bets and wanted to see the fight and excited about it but now, as it gets to the evening, they see him go through the beating they see that it’s not fine and they do not find enjoyment anymore. Such a powerful message.
@@Zrs3820 Yeah without a shadow of a doubt. Peak Character Development, that part was so well made it really created Thorfinn... "Becoming A True Warrior." Simply beautiful.
Love hearing the volatile little punk come out of him (right down to the scoffs and hair-based name-calling) and manifest into a relentless and righteous determination. His old self is still in there, but he’s learned to use those traits and behaviours which once ruined lives to now give him the drive to save lives.
This is a series which actually everyone should watch. It depicted how important peace is and how strong kindness and gentleness truly are. Really a masterpiece, a real gem.
Out of all the anime’s I’ve seen personally I think this is one of the greatest storytelling anime’s ever. Even more so than Naruto because Thorfin was on his own he killed so many and had to cope with his grief and regrets to discover the true meaning of being a warrior. This anime deserves all the respect.
Can we also appreciate the fact that Drott didn’t pull his punches even as he came to respect Thorfinn? He pushed himself to clear exhaustion. He didn’t hold back and disrespect Thorfinn’s resolve - he saw this through to the end as best he could right up to number 100 where he was just so tired he couldn’t put much force behind his final swing at all.
Olmar realized he was was witnessing the actions of a real man and a possible way in how he should have handled things when the kings men were mocking him

This whole scene made me tear up again watching it. The silence, the faces of the vikings..honestly this scene is emotionally breathtaking.
0:08 that soundtrack, that atmosphere, that voice acting, I never tire of seeing this scene because it is very epic
Which soundtrack is it?
Fire@@09krisheluvangal89
"Thorfinn, Son of Thors... I'm sorry I doubted you. You are a true warrior!"
It sucks this video skipped THAT very part, the single best part of the whole scene.
This shows how much Crunchyroll sucks. They had one job. ONE JOB.
Ah yes, the only main character who could be badass and win by letting himself get jumped. Respect.
Man how much i missed hearing thorfinn yelling at people
I really like that every soldier is silent and is paying his respect for Thorfinn with this gesture.
Title correction: Drott’s fist survives 100 impacts against Thorfinn’s face
What having no enemies does to a mf:
“It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!”
Thorfinn watched Rocky.
For anyone wondering, the track in the OST is called "Fire".
What a great anime moment, Thorfin is showing if you have a strong spirit/resolve, you can endure anything.
My boy got up and said "Who said we were done? I didn't hear no bell!"
You can tune a piano but you can’t tunafish
Peakland Saga needs a third season!!!!
Vinland Saga is peak anime
We're lucky we're getting an adaption this good
This whole season needs to have a separate section in the Anime Hall of Fame. Anger, emptiness, happiness, sadness, relief, violence, friendship, respect. It literally had everything. Thank you Mappa and Yukimura for this masterpiece.
That look of pure respect the vikings showed in their faces was so powerfull!
That old thorfinn really came out right here, even hit him the “middle part” insult. Amazing, he broke into my top 3 favorite anime MC’s…
Easily in the top 3 most amazing anime moments of all time. Vinland saga is proof you don't need to use a bunch of tropes or fan service to make a fantastic anime.
That silence was that respect
0:18 This shows that thorfinn still got that DAWG in him.
When the soldiers went silent, I felt the the respect for Throfin, and that last punch came with respect
I really love just how desperate and exhausted the other guy was by the end of it, like he didn’t even care about winning at that point he just wanted it to end
This episode is so well done . Thorfinn is so freaking good in this season 👑👑👑 . I can't wait to watch the next episode .
It’s absolutely on fire, and I mean at first they were placing bets and wanted to see the fight and excited about it but now, as it gets to the evening, they see him go through the beating they see that it’s not fine and they do not find enjoyment anymore. Such a powerful message.
When Olmar started crying that nearly got me 😞😢
Olmar admiration level went over 9000 and can you even blame him?
@@Zrs3820 Yeah without a shadow of a doubt. Peak Character Development, that part was so well made it really created Thorfinn... "Becoming A True Warrior." Simply beautiful.
Love hearing the volatile little punk come out of him (right down to the scoffs and hair-based name-calling) and manifest into a relentless and righteous determination. His old self is still in there, but he’s learned to use those traits and behaviours which once ruined lives to now give him the drive to save lives.
Thorfinns VA was killing it. Season 1 vibes
He has killed it all season
The fact that he was the last man standing despite taking 100 punches is just powerful!
you have no idea how proud i am of thorfinn. he comes a long way.
"Did anyone really take the time to try and talk this out? Or did you all just draw your swords, when they drew theirs first?"
What's even better is the respect he gained from not throwing a single punch.
This is a series which actually everyone should watch. It depicted how important peace is and how strong kindness and gentleness truly are. Really a masterpiece, a real gem.
Olmar has witnessed the most positive form of masculinity in contrast with his brother. Glad to see his development as well.
Vinland saga quickly became one of the best in anime history, peak writing.
This episode is a masterpiece in my eyes. I loved every bit of it.
A true warrior!!!
The goosebumps I got from this.. damn near cried beautiful
Man this anime taught us so much about life.......... that character development is the best i have seen
0:36 Absolute top-shelf voice acting. Exudes such raw emotion.
The character development in this show in mind blowing
Can we also appreciate the fact that Drott didn’t pull his punches even as he came to respect Thorfinn? He pushed himself to clear exhaustion. He didn’t hold back and disrespect Thorfinn’s resolve - he saw this through to the end as best he could right up to number 100 where he was just so tired he couldn’t put much force behind his final swing at all.
Everyone just stopped betting and stayed 🗿
It’s amazing how he started to understand his father words
Olmar realized he was was witnessing the actions of a real man and a possible way in how he should have handled things when the kings men were mocking him
Why do people post obvious stuff on TH-cam lol
Jesus turned the other cheek. Thorfinn took that personally.
This made me tear up this man is a true warrior he has come a long way !!! ❤ I truly love this anime peak !!!!
You can feel the respect for Thorfinn growing in the crowd
After a long time we witness the same rage and intensity from Thorfinn in Season 2 similar to Season 1... Finally Thorfinn, son of Thors became a true warrior. ❤️🔥
But it's different because it's not blind range. He's channeling his conviction
He actually doesn't have enemies.
bro in the power scaling Thorfinn's endurance has gone crazy
The harder you beat a man, the taller he stands.
Thorfinn's speech was so powerful. Best anime character of 2023. He needs to win that award crunchyroll
