    Does the magnet have to be at the same height as the sensor? My lever has quite a bulky body & there's a step down around a cm on top & around 8mm on the bottom. Will this work or will I have to glue a spacer between the lever & the magnet to bring them level? Great vid thanks, the other one I watched said the magnet had to be touching the sensor! :)

    • @Revbikes
      @Revbikes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Best to have it offset actually, as there is a dead spot right in front of the sensor, where it will not even see the magnet even if it's touching! Hopefully your display shows the cutout symbol, and you can play around to find the sweet spot 👍

    Question... So I dropped my bike one morning and it started to act funny... Like i would have to ride downhill pedaling to get speed and then hit my rear brake and the bike (2015 Diamondback Lindau) would throw up error code 6, which is rear brake sensor, and when the code would pop up the motor would then kick in... As long as i didn't shut off the bike the motor would function as it normally had... When i shut it off, back to having to go fast and hit the brakes again...
    One day I ended up having the battery die on me while i was out... When i recharged the battery and went to ride, i couldn't get the motor to kick on anymore and couldn't get the e6 message to pop up even... Other thing was the speedometer which had worked even if i would be walking the bike... Now i was bleeding the brakes and notice the magnet is missing on the brake handle... Is this the cause for the e6? But if so, why would the motor kick on when i hit the brakes? I have purchase jb weld and i have a magnet, just hoping that when i do this it works again... I need my bike running again...
    Any info or suggestions, besides take it to a shop, would be great...
    Ok, I've done some troubleshooting and bled my brakes and I've got my speedometer working again but still no boost from the motor... When in the diagnostic mode, my display indicates that my throttle is sending the signal, but still get nothing... Is this because of the missing magnet?

      It depends on the motor. I've a BBSHD with 3 plugs; The standard 2 plugs for the brakes plus a smaller cable straight out of the controller for the gear sensor, because the gear sensor was meant to be installed just before the derailleur... which doesn't make any sense whatsoever! Cable gets dirty, sensor too and the internal cable has to be plugged in way many more holes.

  • @charliewhiskey8440

    If you epoxy the sensor in place, how would you replace the sensor if it fails?

    • @davidswelt
      @davidswelt 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are solid state (Hall) sensors that are unlikely to break. No moving parts, nothing that deteriorates over time. Most likely the magnets would lose strength, or they would slightly shift (hence the epoxy solution). You can pry them off though, and remove any epoxy residue with acetone or sandpaper.

    Good info thanks.. but you'd think that there would a better, easier solution than to have to mix glue to attach pieces to make this work. At this point you'd think they'd make special hydraulic brake levers with a simple "plug and play" set up making for a quick, fool proof connection like all the other ebike electrical connections.

    • @Revbikes
      @Revbikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They do, but they are a fair bit more expensive, and hydraulic bleeds are not something the average backyarder can do.

    • @Revbikes
      @Revbikes  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can follow this same process, but instead of looking for the cutout symbol on the display, you will have to TEST the motor operation with the throttle / pedelec, to see whether the sensor and magnets are in the correct position. The motor should run when the brake lever is in its normal position, and cut out when the brake is pulled.

    • @Revbikes
      @Revbikes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will struggle. There are some sensors which operate via a cable running through them, like the gear sensor cutout. We have used these on drop bars before. The alternative is to simply go without the cutout - its not that necessary if you have the gear sensor in place.. Just change down through the gears as you are coming to a stop, and the gear sensor will do the job! Hope that helps :)
