When you said that older kids probably appreciate rainbow high/shadow high Dolls i have to say I agree as a 13 year old I don't vrd them and still get them off of Amazon. I am also mad that they rebooted it
I am exactly like you described!I got into dolls again because of rh i really enjoyed the quality of the outfits and the second one! I was sad about loosing the second outfits but the slime dolls were my final straw
It's crazy to see how Rainbow High and Shadow High were revolutionary in ways and were heading the doll collecting community next to og Monster High - then the brand just nosedived themselves into being a joke trying to revive the weird slime gimmick. Literally overnight, RH went from "the high fashion collector dolls that rival barbie" to "those weird slime dolls in the walmart clearance bin"
I just don’t get why they try and fix what’s not broken. Yes sales could be down for what ever reason. Happens each time, but after 5 years they go back to their OG formula to make money and it sells. I guess they just bank on Nostalgia? I have a feeling it’s accountants who make these decisions to try and drive up revenue when in the long run it bites them in the butt because they always end up going back to their original ideas. They could AT least make a collectors line for adults who buy RH/SH. That’s what Mattel’s been doing and it’s very successful.

“You’ve never seen a boy franchise have to reboot every two to three years.” - TMNT and Transformers series says hi. Note: Yes I know some of the shows have many seasons to them but we get a new incarnation every decade and sometimes more than one. I’m certain there’s others but these two are the first to come to my mind upon hearing what Jay said. Oh wait Power Rangers too. Ok three.
Amaya and Krystal’s little sisters are literally the only ones I would consider getting… or downloading the promo art and making them into tiny cardboard cutouts 😂
To your point of doll brands always rebranding: Me who got into doll collecting because of American Girl which (while yes the brand has had issues like all companies and brands) the dolls and brand remains pretty much consistent in terms of style, design, and stories. Plus, there is a huge back catalog of Ag stuff on the secondhand market. So when a brand like, say, Rainbow High has rebranded to the point where I have decided to not collect any of the rebrand dolls, I can turn back to AG instead which has been relatively the same for years. It’s my safe and comfort doll line.
Thank you Jay for your content. I hope MGA will return to making quality dolls for both children and adult collectors. Slime, reduced articulation and a lack of inset eyes, is not what the consumer wants.
In fact, the reason for simplifying the brand is inflation. It's easier for companies to refer to the transition to a kids audience than to admit to a crisis...
MGA also wasted a shit ton of money introducing Mermaze to kill the competitor brand Mermaid High, then suddenly and unceremoniously canceled it with new releases both created and in the works after Mermaid High had circled the drain. That is crazy to me, it’s a terrible business decision that smacks of vindictiveness. What if he’d taken the budget that went to THAT and used it to improve Rainbow High? Then if they really were looking for a younger audience they could have released these and other simple but well made dolls alongside the fancier, better dressed and more accessorized main line.

Yeah, I feel like that is pretty much the entire issue with these latest rainbow high lines. They’re technically not horrible dolls, and could be called cute (if they’re your taste..). But they are the follow up to several highly detailed and highly praised doll lines. Plus, they are our only new rainbow high dolls right now. It's crazy looking at the Littles next to Magic Mixies Pixlings. The MMP are so much more detailed in comparison for only $7ish (or less with sales) more and a gimmick that doubles as a display bottle essentially?
It's kinda wild how magic mixies gave us molded on tops and we're generally pretty okay with it cause they're good quality and well designed, and then other brands can so easily do... whatever this is. And try to charge almost the same price. So wild 😮

Besides, the RH Littles look more like mini versions of their older sisters rather than a similar but different individual. They could as well just have made Rainbow High Mini's and give them inset eyes, nice hair and some articulation and some good details, although since they would be a smaller scale they can't be expected to be as detailed as their bigger counterparts.

As a doll artist I thought it would be fun to give a gremlin a new face up and a complete makeover. But after I learned they have 0 articulation and the heads don’t tilt that project went out the window.
I wouldn’t care if they made these only IF their highest payers were children, but they know damn well the adult collectors are their money makers, how could they betray us and their own selves??!?
Adult collectors are not their money makers, if they were all the RH collector dolls wouldn't have gone on insane clearance (from $130 to $30). Or costume ball wouldn't have flopped
I always think that’s the problem of the us toy brands. They’re not willing to change the characters with the same quality. They just redesign and redesign for ages. I grew up with Japanese kids anime. They don’t redesign the old characters. They make new characters in different generations. Siblings don’t share the same design. That let new fans come but keep old fans to see new stories with new characters.
💙 I only have the Shadow High twins. I'm a Monster High fan newbie (less than a year, but man, I went all in 😬$) But I gotta admit I look to MGA for outfits, they are (were?!! Say it ain't so!!! 😲) EPIC quality.
if rainbow high does both these and the regular fashion dolls that we know and love, i’d be happy with less releases if we were getting quality dolls… but if we get this and the gimmick slime dolls and that’s it, i’m going to be a bit devastated. i just recently got into dolls and i LOVE rainbow high, and i’m so sad that it seems to be going in a direction that i don’t like just as i started collecting and now all the good dolls are going for outrageous prices 😢
I've never been a big Rainbow High fan but the quality of the dolls was absolutely incredible and the downgrade of the quality is so insanely depressing. It reminds me of what they did to Monster High with G2. Oh god I was so upset.
I'm not a fan of this direction, but I have been here since the launch of Rainbow high, and I can clearly remember majority of collectors perception of RH price vs value started going down around s3. Most collectors considered them overpriced so imagine how parents felt. I also don't think this kind of thing "happens" with action figures because most of those figures are based on comics, movies and TV series, all of which have so many variations so they do go through reboots and different companies get license to produce different reboot merch. Like action figures that look more realistic vs action figures which are tiny and baby proportioned.
mga is a billion dollar company; they don't have an excuse for the lack of quality. even if they're marketing to younger kids, they still deserve high quality. kids will notice the drop in quality so they *really* have no excuse for this.
LOL Wow she does look like a big American Girl doll compared to Skyler. I got into RH only last year and just LOVE the details and quality of the line (deboxing is hell though). This was after several years break in fashion doll collecting with Monster High and Ever After High. The animated series is done fairly well, it isn’t just fashion, these girls are attending art schools. The Slime stuff though… I didn’t realize these came from the Poopsie line. Why so many toys were about pooping slime is beyond me. I don’t care for them going back to that, and the season 5 is just… what? Why? I was debating on the Littles but seeing how there isn’t much to them, it’s a hard pass. Thanks for sharing this, info much appreciated.
If they had made the "Littles" just a 'little' bigger, the scale would've been *so* much better. I'll still get "Daisy", though...she's too cute to say "No" to. 🌼
As someone from South America, it's really difficult for me to get my hands on Rainbow High dolls because import taxes means that they're hella expensive for me, which is why I only have four RH dolls up to date and I really am kinda sad because I think eventually the beautiful Shadow High and Rainbow High dolls are going to sell out everywhere and I'm probably never going to be able to get another one like ever in my entire lifetime. I guess this means I should be happy these new dolls are way cheaper but it actually makes me so mad. They're hideous. I really don't know what MGA thinks they're doing.
This Sapphire doll reminds of the Na Na Na Surprise mini's... and that doll line is slowly going down the drain 🙁 Since Mattel is getting its groove back, thanks to The Barbie Movie and their dolls, Monster High reboot, MGA is struggling to keep up. And with Mattel's upcoming new doll line Barbie Dream Besties, it will be even harder for MGA. And that's a shame. Since Mattel has gotten away with making dolls with a lack of quality, detail and a lot of glue heads for years. MGA now has a hard time. While they gave us unique and high quality dolls for years. I don't choose side's. I'm not a Mattel stan, MGA stan or whatever stan. I grew up with Barbie in the late 80's early 90's as a kid. And from my adolescence since 2006 I've been collecting Barbie and later MH and EAH. Those were magical times. But the magic MGA gave us the last years with LOL Surprise OMG and Tweens, Rainbow High and Bratz repro's, MGA deserves better. But cutting on detail, quality and creativity is not a good choice from MGA. The two new LOL Surprise OMG dolls look promising. And I hope Rainbow High slowly creeps back up to the iconic High Fashion dolls they once were 🫶🏼 The upcoming Rainbow High Winter Wonderland dolls are already a little step in the right direction 🌈
I dunno, I feel like Transformers and TMNT reboot just as much. Though with Transformers it's less obvious because every line is going to have Optimus Prime, Starscream, Bumblebee, etc. But looking at the past decade, it was three years of Transformers Prime, three years of TF Robots in Disguise, two or three years of Cyberverse, and right now two years of Earthspark. (And some other lines for specific demographics, like Rescue Bots aimed at toddlers and the Studio series for adults.) Even though they're all "Transformers", each line has its own aesthetic. Transformers generations seem more planned out though, even if a line is popular they will replace it after three years. With doll lines it seems more like "Let's ride this until the wheels fall off." Anyway, a pox upon polypropylene hair. The head shape on these new dolls are very strange, they look like aliens.
wishing I got into rainbow/shadow high sooner but I literally only brought my first dolls today and I only brought them because I could get 3 for the price of 1 😭
I really hate that they are not to scale, but it looks like they are meant to compete with Chelsea and Pixlings and stuff. If so then the size, painted eyes, and plastic shirts makes sense. As a Rainbow High doll it's a fail, but as an alternative to a Chelsea doll I dunno. We'll have to see how children like them. I guess the Dream Ella little sisters couldn't compete with Chelsea so MGA is probably trying again with a more popular doll line.
I swear to god MGA has to got to be doing this sh*t on this level of s*it on purpose as an advertizement for rainbow high g3 I REFUSE to belive that they actually think this is a good idea
It’s sad to see where rainbow high has gone too. I do share the opinion, if you don’t like the doll, don’t buy her and that should be okay. And if you do like the doll, do buy her and that’s okay. It’s so weird actually to see that people start fights over something that should give them joy. I am wondering though, why didn’t they used junior high as the sisters, would have made a lot more sense to me. The proportions would have been a whole lot better and maybe it would have made a bit more sense 🤷🏼♀️
If they were going for large Polly pocket should’ve done the really squishy material shirt and the bottoms the same and extra outfit of the squishy type stuff. Could’ve made it a little more fun idk
@@faith4disney ya but it was literally 18% at one point. Plus it’s usually 2% per year so it would cost more regardless. That’s just a fundamental fact.
I do not know what MGA was thinking when they created the slime dolls of rainbow high because if I believe there’s some houses that slime our band like my house
ive been having to restyle most of the series 1 slime dolls to make them look good i was hoping maybe wed get like fresh new looks for the series 1 characters bc if sunny got one i was expecting the others to have one too but they decided to do this…
It's their response to a Chelsea doll. Same price same idea of plastic on top and fabric shirt, same poly hair. But you get a purse and a pet for the same price, at least here in EU. It would have been smarter to have spent the budget on lashes, and kawaii eyes on an articulated body. Save on cost with a painted bathing suit and a fabric wrap. A cheap beach theme, and people would have a better opinion. Plus cute summer photos with the big sista.
I think you make some really good points! Sexism is definitely a part of it. Why is doll collecting weird when people who collect Lego sets are just cool? 💙
like the video! honestly, rainbow high's fall was really shocking. grew up during the rise of monster high and the flop of g2, but was graduating at the time and didn't have the money to collect them anyway so it wasn't as impactful. its like the fall of RH feels like a Hindenburg style crash and burn. they released in the summer of 2020 and steadily got amazing over the next three years only to suddenly start flopping slowly then all at once. i WANT an affordable budget line for a doll like RH (before the fall), but the little sisters line looks like dollar store knock offs. i swear a few months ago i could go in and find something similar. absolutely not worth the $10 price point and doesn't even read as rainbow high if you take away the marketing. also them advertising krystal's sister but her not appearing anywhere is pretty suspicious, MGA acted like they wanted to do better about doll line inclusion but wide releasing without the only black girl doll in sight says a lot. i completely agree with the unachievable ubiquity of a brand like lego for most doll lines, the only one that's grabbed it has been miss barbara roberts and that's from mattel refusing to back down even if the quality has dropped. MGA feels all too willing to drop wildly popular and profitable doll brands for seemingly no reason. could be an investor thing, maybe the 60 yr old white guys in suits who think they have a pulse on what kids who play with dolls want thought having a doll line with detailed clothing and interesting characters with easy to recognize color coordination wasn't on the 2024 best sellers list? i dunno, i'm definitely a bit bitter considering how much i loved many of the dolls in RH/SH. hope we get a good and solid reboot eventually.
I always had a feeling Rainbow High was too good to be true. The dolls and clothing had such great quality for a reasonable price. I'm just glad I have some of the dolls. I have 20 of them.
💙for Jay but not for Sapphire. I never collected Bratz, and RH were the first MGA dolls I collected. It was a very short time that they went from exemplary to falling behind some of Mattel's dolls.
I can’t get over how rainbow high is constantly spiralling downwards…. These dolls were so freakin successful and the eyes , the quality of the clothes and the love for details…and now that abomination. I was not happy with the slime dolls and still only want sunny. Was not happy about the lack of articulation and I’m already dreading what the future will bring
I don’t even wanna talk about it… in a positive vision, I’ll say that at least the little sisters weren’t as ugly as they seem, and that’s the only thing that have changed for me for the better, or should I say less worse. At this point I’m just tired and don’t give a f anymore, I’m collecting the old ones still, cause I can’t afford them all so quickly, and maybe that’s why I’m not giving a f, cause at least I have them to buy. But it’s probably because I’m just tired of waiting to see if they are really gone or not.
Not sure how long I’ll have this video up, but lmk your thoughts on the rainbow high franchise

TLDR review: It’s S H I T
I'd really like to see the moonbows in real life.
I agree with you completely Jay, you made great points.💙
😮she looks like a Disney jackks doll😱
💙 I really enjoy your videos. Especially rh
I'm a Monster High fan newbie (less than a year, but man, I went all in 😬$)
But I gotta admit I look to MGA for outfits, they are (were?!! Say it ain't so!!! 😲) EPIC quality.
the three hasbro stan’s watching hasbro drop the same 10 disney dolls every other month
if rainbow high does both these and the regular fashion dolls that we know and love, i’d be happy with less releases if we were getting quality dolls… but if we get this and the gimmick slime dolls and that’s it, i’m going to be a bit devastated. i just recently got into dolls and i LOVE rainbow high, and i’m so sad that it seems to be going in a direction that i don’t like just as i started collecting and now all the good dolls are going for outrageous prices 😢
I cant believe you didnt mention her lack of neck😂💀
💙… Sending my condolences to the RH collectors
I've never been a big Rainbow High fan but the quality of the dolls was absolutely incredible and the downgrade of the quality is so insanely depressing. It reminds me of what they did to Monster High with G2. Oh god I was so upset.
Hiii I love ur vids
I'm not a fan of this direction, but I have been here since the launch of Rainbow high, and I can clearly remember majority of collectors perception of RH price vs value started going down around s3. Most collectors considered them overpriced so imagine how parents felt. I also don't think this kind of thing "happens" with action figures because most of those figures are based on comics, movies and TV series, all of which have so many variations so they do go through reboots and different companies get license to produce different reboot merch. Like action figures that look more realistic vs action figures which are tiny and baby proportioned.
6:17 I can’t think of any male oriented franchises that have underwent a change every 2-3 years
Welp, I can go back to skipping visits to the doll aisle. 🤷🏼♀️
I’m definitely getting Daisy because I’m collecting all the Madison sisters
mga is a billion dollar company; they don't have an excuse for the lack of quality. even if they're marketing to younger kids, they still deserve high quality. kids will notice the drop in quality so they *really* have no excuse for this.
The only good thing about the only doll line I collect going downhill is that I can save some more money lmao
This Sapphire doll reminds of the Na Na Na Surprise mini's... and that doll line is slowly going down the drain 🙁
Since Mattel is getting its groove back, thanks to The Barbie Movie and their dolls, Monster High reboot, MGA is struggling to keep up.
With doll lines it seems more like "Let's ride this until the wheels fall off."
Anyway, a pox upon polypropylene hair. The head shape on these new dolls are very strange, they look like aliens.
wishing I got into rainbow/shadow high sooner but I literally only brought my first dolls today and I only brought them because I could get 3 for the price of 1 😭
RIP rainbow high 💙⚰️💀🥀
It’s Horrifying🥶
Thanks for your video!
The Littles look so creepy 😭💙
I had been hoping for smaller versions for so long and I'm so disappointed. 💙
glad that in my country those monsters arent in stores
don’t worry we weren’t planing on it! 😊
Thanks for showing me this dog toy. Ozzy will love it!!
To give MGA a little credit regarding argument concerning the fantasy friends and inset eye - inflation prob is the reason.
Inflation is always the reason 😭
@@faith4disney ya but it was literally 18% at one point. Plus it’s usually 2% per year so it would cost more regardless. That’s just a fundamental fact.
We neeed little brothers tooo!
LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK! Everyone is allowed to have an opinion without being attacked.
Is it just me or she have always Bartz Chloe skirt
Doing gods work💙💙💙
I do not know what MGA was thinking when they created the slime dolls of rainbow high because if I believe there’s some houses that slime our band like my house
ive been having to restyle most of the series 1 slime dolls to make them look good i was hoping maybe wed get like fresh new looks for the series 1 characters bc if sunny got one i was expecting the others to have one too but they decided to do this…
Ahhhh!!! My eyes! Why rainbow high 😭😭😭😭
It feels illegal to be this early 😅
The title took me OUT! 😂
💙for Jay but not for Sapphire. I never collected Bratz, and RH were the first MGA dolls I collected. It was a very short time that they went from exemplary to falling behind some of Mattel's dolls.
💙 It sucks because the dolls aren’t as nice and I just started collecting so it feels kind of like I missed the train.
I think she is cute after all x)
Hiiii 💙💙💙
I think she's cute for a purse doll 💙...
Just LOL little sister but how parents want them to look like lmao
