Yep. As soon as I noticed you don't get anything from successfully defending. I setup a pretty poor one with only one unit. All my units are my level so I can't do much about the level, but at least it's only 1. I see all others with full defenses though... ALL. THE. TIME.

i saw one that put only mosin nagant but level 50+ while my character was 39 and damn she one shot one of my character then i cancel the auto and do it manually
level 43, Im about finished with the event just farming more resources for Macchiato at this point. I cant wait for the new skins for my Tololo and Macchiato
Thank you for the tip about forfeiting. Thats exactly what I'm going to do. Only care about the premium currency and I dont want to put it on auto and wait for QJ to spam her ult 5 turns in a row before she actually decides to attack someone 🙃
Nice to see all the people cheating on the Military Simulation. There's a bug that if you close out before finishing the tutorial you don't have to set up a defense team. So there are people on the ladder that get points from winning but never lose any because they don't have a team. I peaked at #113. I'm always matched against people 3-4 levels higher and anywhere from 4-8k more combat efficiency. But they don't have a V6 Ullrid like I do. I use the same strategy of just staying out of range of Suomi's ult so she doesn't do it. I kill one of their high-dps units in the first round with Ullrid's ult, she stealths, suomi doesn't use her ult, and next turn I can clean up most of their team with just Ullrid. I'm punching way above my weight because of her. She basically introduces asymmetrical warfare into a mode that's all about static positions fighting over a middle.
The only thing y'all got to win by setting up a strong defense in excercises is a stinky title. Absolute scrungus activity to inconvenience your fellow Commanders for.
You know what? I'll go for a weak team on attack 1 then go for the proper defense because i get the satisfaction of one-shoting Suomi with Nemesis then watch the whole enemy team crumbles
Personally I don't think pvp should go anywhere near gacha games Black Clover Mobile and Brave Frontier I believe were the only ones I played that had pvp and I hated both (though BCM was much, MUCH worse)

level also makes a massive difference. Attacking someone 2 levels higher than me with a Qiongjui is ridiculous. l thought I had a fighting chance but they would one shot my shields plus some hp. While I had to shoot them with all 4 units just to take down there shield and hp down. I don't know if they secretly have a level penalty.

It's not that I mind the grind, I do play REAL PvP games fairly often, I just don't want it in my P2W games.
I've gotten one win in MilSim, matching is giving me absolutely awful fights with a serious disadvantage for me.
