"Welcome To the 60's" - Nikki Blonsky, Jhon Travolta From the movie "Hairspray" from 2007 See the other songs from the movie at my chanel Pleas note: I OWNS NO RIGHTS FOR THE PICTURS OR THE SOUNDTRACK OF THE VIDEO!
Theater producer Margo Lion conceived to of Hairspray as a stage musical in 1998 after seeing the 1988 movie on television. She contacted the 1988 movie's creator John Waters who gave her his blessing. I'm glad that Waters likes the musical. He says he likes how high schools all across the country play his characters. As interesting as the 1988 film is, it seems to work better as a musical. It just helps make the story flow better. The 1988 movie did have plenty of dancing, but singing while dancing makes it even better. The songs gave these characters more life. More lovability. Truly one of the best musicals ever made. While people grew up on Grease, this is my kind of musical.
This number always makes me tear up with joy and a bittersweet feeling "Your mama's looking at herself and wondering where you been?" she spent so long trapped by her insecurities and she finally found the confidence to be free that night
I love how Edna walked down the stairs did a cute lil spin and was like "ok thats enough, going back in the house now" 😂😂😂 Tracy was like nope. Bring your butt out here now lol
Biggest regret- high school. 2014. Missed auditions for Tracy and never living it down. Ten years later I’m in my bedroom dancing around like I should’ve in my audition 😢 lmao sad
exactly! Idk why they must turn every musical into pop and take away from the original Broadway quality. The mean girls movie musical could have been incredible
I love this song, my six year old had a huge hairspray phase and this song definitely resonated with me. I love seeing the liberation in the characters and the jubilation they showed on screen occasionally brings me to tears.
I love this movie. Absolutely feel bad for Edna because the poor lady has such low self esteem due to being a big woman and not fitting into the beauty standards of her time so I love the part where pinky compliments her about being Tracy’s sister. Also Tracy is a sweetheart helping her mom with her confidence especially considering it’s normally the mom helping her daughter with her confidence so it’s nice seeing it the other way around. This is definitely my favorite song.
This musical has had me in a chokehold since I was 5 years old. Every birthday since then I've screened it with my girlfriends. So much good energy! Happiness is contagious :)
2024 and still sounding great! Shame they don’t produce songs like this anymore. Such a decorative, inspiring, clever and uplifting arrangement. Let’s not forget the talents of composer Marc Shaiman, all the wonderful live musicians and soundtrack mixer Frank Wolf.
i feel like what made this movie was actual decent and outstanding singing chops on part of the performers, i remember wanting to watch the mamma mia movie because i like abba, but my god they sung horribly.
Absolutely. The problem with too many movie musicals Is they cast big names without making sure they can actually sing. Or they hamper the singers somehow like Hugh Jackman in Les Mis sounding like he had cotton in his cheeks the whole movie (Greatest showman proves the man has pipes

When this movie came out in 2007 I was 12 years old. I thought this movie was so stupid that I was so mad at my mom for dragging me to see it after I told her that I didn’t want to see it. I am now 29 years old and I still think it’s a very stupid movie.
A timorous Travolta Turnblad is no fun, compared to the glorious gargoyle created by the late Divine in the original and almost matched onstage by Harvey Fierstein.
Whoever decided to make this story a musical was a genius.
It started as a Broadway musical based on the original John Waters film version.
@@benschaeffer8102following your comment to add yes after the original in 1988 he decided to make it a musical and it’s one of my favorite ❤

I just love John Travolta in this role, he made the mother adorable
Everyone in the theater lost their minds when he appeared on screen. The applause and laughter was deafening. He really was amazing in the role.
I just thought of this song at midnight as I turn 60 today. A different meaning to “welcome to the 60’s”.
Lol😂😂😂
Happy belated!

The mean girls movie musical could have been incredible
Mean Girls was too afraid to be a musical.
Such a fun movie. The songs, the cast, it's all fantastic. One of the few musicals I genuinely love .
I love this song, my six year old had a huge hairspray phase and this song definitely resonated with me. I love seeing the liberation in the characters and the jubilation they showed on screen occasionally brings me to tears.
Hallo
I had a phase when I was 8 😅catchy soundtrack
John Travolta was such a trip in this role❤
The vocals of the background singers at the end are amazing

Love the whole movie and especially this song and the dancing scene in the end

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Go, mama, go, go, go
[Hefty Hideaway employees with Tracy:]
Don'tcha let nobody
Try to steal your fun
Cause a little touch of lipstick
Never hurt no one
The future's got a million roads
For you to choose
But you'll walk a little taller
In some high-heel shoes
And once you find the style
That makes you feel like you
Something fresh
Something new
Step on out
Hear us shout
Mama, that's your cue!
[Edna with Hefty Hideaway employees:]
Hey, Tracy, hey, baby, look at me
I'm the cutest chickie that ya ever did see
Hey, Tracy, hey, baby, look at us
Where is there a team that's half as fabulous?
I let go, go, go of the past now
Said hello to this red carpet ride
Yes I know that the world's spinning fast now
Tell Lollabrigida to step aside
[Edna & The Dynamites:]
Your mama's welcoming the sixties
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh (*yodeling*)
Oh your mama's welcoming the sixties
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Go, mama, go, go, go
[The Dynamites:]
Welcome to the sixties
Open the door for the girl who has more
She's a star, Tracy, go, go, go
[Chorus & Tracy & Edna:]
(Hey, Mama, welcome to the sixties) Your mama's hip (Hip)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh)
Your mama's hip (Hip, Mama)
Your mama's looking at herself and wondering, "where you been?" (Where you been?)
(Oh, mama, welcome to the sixties) Ya mama's lit (lit), she's all aglow
(Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh) (Go, Mama!)
(Go, Mama, go, go, go) Your mama's hip, she's holding back, now Mama's gotta let go, go, go (go, go, go!)
(Oh, Mama, welcome to the sixties)
(Oh, Mama, welcome to the sixties, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh)
Welcome to the six to the O to the apostrophe S, hey, yeah, yeah, yeah
(Hey, Mama, welcome to the sixties, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh)
Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, ye-ye-ye-yeah, ye-ye-ye-yeah, ye-yeah, yeah, yeah
(Hey, Mama, welcome to the sixties, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh)
Oh, yeah, oh, yeah, whooo
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh

When this movie came out in 2007 I was 12 years old. I thought this movie was so stupid that I was so mad at my mom for dragging me to see it after I told her that I didn’t want to see it. I am now 29 years old and I still think it’s a very stupid movie.
A timorous Travolta Turnblad is no fun, compared to the glorious gargoyle created by the late Divine in the original and almost matched onstage by Harvey Fierstein.
Omg you've RUINED HAIRSPRAY. holy crap this sucks. Devine would not b happy
How did this ruin it? This made it better.
@@abc.animal5143 uh NO. Travolta is a far far cry from the great Divine.
Ay Caramba
