"The Gift of Fear" by Gavin De Becker explains clearly how people, and especially women, get a very hinky feeling in certain situations and why they should listen to their inner voice telling them that something is wrong. The Behaviour Panel, a TH-cam channel, speaks about intuition sometimes and why it's such a valuable tool in protecting ourselves.
@@12thDecember The book, the gift of fear -it was in me at age 12. I fended of a predator who had a butcher knife in 1970. I always listen to my gut. Not just with negative things but with people as well who try to take advantage. Wonderful author. I read his book as an adult like 4x.
Those two women, who walked with her, I can't imagine how heart broken they were when they found out what had transpired after thinking she was safe. They're beyond kind♡
She looked like she wanted to get away from him asap 😢 try to limit the time together as quick as possible. And then she did get into her apartment, but that sicko broke in afterwards anyway
I knew it was him from the beginning, if you listen in the first interview he said “I thought I saw her again” I’ve watched too many of these documentaries not to know he was lying
Because of my uncle he is in FBI I knew it from the beginning.... Another clue is that the girl she realize that something going on with him when I see her running at the stares! She knew💯
Me too! And when he said that He THINKs he saw her with a guy later but didn’t think anything of it. That also sat wrong with me. As a security guard who just dealt with a drunk woman in your complex who couldn’t get into her apartment, you’d know if it was her and I’d think you’d at least ask her if she’s still ok and if she was able to get into her apartment if you saw her again. That little lie right there just didn’t seem right. I knew he was involved from the start.
Horrible situation. She can’t go in her apartment because he’s hovering behind her. She can’t get in her car and leave because he’s right there. What kind of security guard follows residents around like that?
The 2 strangers that helped her seemed to care more about her than her own friends. Her friends let her walk home alone, a 30 minute walk, at night/ in the dark, visibly drunk. With friends like those, who needs enemies?
I believe its now safe to say that woman should always have someone with them when they go shopping or renting, or coming home. The world is full of violent men who have fed their hearts and minds on degrading pornography.add to that many have not had very good childhoods, so now their grown men with strong sex drives and no one to reign them in. Disasters waiting to happen. Yes. They happen thousands of times a day. Many ending in murder.
@@hotstuff400 I am sure every single person that came into contact with her that night regrets their decision to leave her alone, I know I would! Many of which have been found innocent after years. Keep dangerous people out of society, simple. Punishment is secondary. Being kept away from children is already punishing pedos. Being kept away from women is a punishment to rapists in itself. Why kill bad people when we can use them for extremely cheap labor? And at least if they're innocent they can still defend themselves because they're alive.

Honestly I don't think she ever forgot her keycode, although she was heavily inebriated I believe she was still aware that he was a creep and kept pretending like she didn't remember it so she wouldn't have to open it in front of him. She made up the lie that the keys/code were in the car in hopes that he would stop hovering over her, you can see by how she keeps her distance from him when walking back up the stairs, instead of engaging in a conversation with him, she thinks he is a creep and just wants him to stop following her.
I also rewatched it and look how she feels frightened to see Stephen..I think she ran back as soon as she saw Stephen here 11:43.. I believe you're right that Sasha is aware how creepy Stephen is.. it'a sad that she was not able to save herself 😔
Wow .. so sad how those 2 good samaritans (the 2 women) were worried for Sashas safety and made it a point to share an Uber with Sasha to ensure she got home safely, then when they arrived to Sashas building and Sasha didn’t have her key, the security guard said “I can’t let anyone into the building without ID or a key” and the 2 women were like “well how can we make sure she’s safe if she can’t get into her apartment.” All along the irony of it was that she was safer not going into that building, but who could have known that the “security guard” who’s supposed to maintain the safety of the residents, would be the person they needed to be worried about… so sad .. what a piece of sh*t

While watching, I kept thinking had she entered the building with a protective friend or been invited to sleep off her intoxication at a friend's place (which I've done myself while visiting friends in Orlando) she may not have been targeted by Steven that night.

Yeah .. I just wonder why crimes are that frequent in US. I live in France and I work in a research institute, some time I don't get home until midnight but never ever felt unsafe although it is not my country. I am originally from Lebanon, and we people would never let women go outside alone at night without a man. He has to be her father, brother, or husband. Still if a woman did, she would find the stranger males in the street acting as her guards. That's for going outside, while for living alone, it is not an option too. Hope your society gets more peaceful. Stay safe!
@@Anti-Zio This reminds me of when I was a teenager, up until I was about 20. I would sneak out of my house at night (after I turned 18 it wasn’t really sneaking out, but more like slipping away) usually just to walk around or run to the store just a minute away. I live in a holler with few houses, so it’s really peaceful at night. I don’t believe I was ever in danger here, but MANY of those nights I wandered down toward the main road, especially if I was going to the store. Without a single worry, usually getting stoned while I walk. Usually I was going to meet up and hang around with my bf at the time, who was way too old for me, so I never thought I had much of a reason to be afraid. Especially considering all my neighbors had capable men in the homes and “all I’d have to do is yell” is what I’d tell myself. There’s also times my friend and I would drive back in the mountains, down by the rivers, and just set outside in the dark, alone fishing and getting stoned or just walking around bored. All the times that something bad could’ve happened and no one would’ve even known where to begin to look for us, it gives me anxiety just to think about it. Your statement has nothing to do with this case. Her friends didn't let her walk home alone and walking home alone isn't what got her killed. Stay in the game.
She was at home already and she was dropped there by the women, the same way her friends would've dropped her. So even if they had dropped her, he still would've killed her because she was already at home when he broke in.

When I saw her run up the stairs I knew she felt uncomfortable. But when I saw him run up right behind her I got an eerie feeling I just knew he was the killer.
I run up stairs like that as well. In my case it's been to escape a violent mother that spent many moments trying to end my life till I was 41 then left her behind, in the interests of self preservation. Funny how women still like to blame men for everything though.

The fact that they extended their sympathies to the killer’s parents speaks volumes about their character. And they’re right-when a loved one is murdered, the grief affects so many people, including the community at large. Still, it was lovely of them to say so.
Such a sad case, made even sadder by the fact that she was preyed upon by someone in a role that most people feel they can trust and feel safe around xx
She'd have been better - in theory - dialling 911. Though more likely than not she'd end up with an obtuse call handler telling her to calm down as she's horribly murdered.
Anyone else found it weird in the video clip where she is running up the stairs as if she wanted to get away from someone and then the security guard comes walking after? Not particularly. Maybe she was wary of him but it's just as possible she was just intoxicated and moving up stairs is easier if you do it quicker. @Extra Life359 : That is a very dangerous thought. Murderers get away with it every single day; especially in North America where guns are easily purchased. It take no skill to buy a gun; point it at a couple... kill the guy and abduct the girl. No trouble at all and it happens many times every day. If a girl is alone? She’s toast. I don’t trust being alone with any man I don’t know. Security guards are just people. Even police officers have committed sexual assault. The apartment complex is absolutely at fault since other residents complained about the security guard. And with an electronic lock, always use another source of lock like a deadbolt!!! That goes for a hotel room, too.
I agree. My apartment just switched to electric locks and I still use my deadbolt. I don’t play around with that. NO ONE comes in while I’m there alone not maintenance, not anyone.
As a woman, if you live alone in an apartment get a door chain lock and use it whenever you’re at home daytime or nighttime. The guy obviously saw that she was drunk and a woman therefore an easy target. But even if she wasn’t drunk he could have hacked into her home when she was sleeping so the door chain lock 🔐 is very important. And if you live alone, don’t open the door for any worker unless you know in advance they’re coming etc…
Feels like listening and comprehension is a problem for a lot of people. Yes she was drunk but what has that got to do with anything? She WAS LITERALLY IN HER HOUSE WITH THE DOOR LOCKED AND HE BROKE IN!!! It bothers me that somehow in sexual assault cases people start focusing on what women should have or should have not done. Look even pious women in hijabs have been raped. Please focus all your ire on the monster that killed her. People teach your sons, brothers, fathers, uncles etc. DO NOT RAPE!
@Luise Von Hoffmeister try to use punctuation. I almost misread your sentences. And yes I agree, but I don’t really think that all men like that are born that way. Maybe over time , their brains degraded or some shit. Also, there are woman who are rapist. Just putting it out there. @mutekuro no one can really teach someone who is older than them anything which indicates disrespect. So I’m not going out there and telling my hypothetical uncle , not to rape. It doesn’t work that. Educating kids and even teens for that matter, is something I can get behind.
Very stupid advice at the end. If you feel unsafe from your sons, brothers, fathers, uncles etc go live in a world where women exist alone. You are just creating more hate by uttering nonsense at the end.
@Luise Von Hoffmeister actually, your English is really good. I'm talking about punctuations. It really important. Try using fullstop and commas more. That way you'll have more progress.

What I don’t under is he broke in to her home , the fact that she was intoxicated and her friends let her go home is irrelevant. She made it home around 3 but he broke in around 5-6 so that leads me to believe she was “safe” in her home and he came and broke in.
He must have thought if his shift is over they will not trace him to the crime he thought his tracks are covered but his DNA was all over the scene and on her she left evidence on him bite marks his shoes had found him guilty
I agree. it upset me that her friends let her walk home alone intoxicated, but even if they hadn't, fact remains that she was safely home, He broke in. A mere Google search and the lock was broken.
Also, I guess the fact that she reached the building by 1.45 but couldn't get in the house till 2.30 because she had no key and couldn't remember the code... The security guard followed her all throughout... Pretending to make sure she is okay, but really just observing the vulnerability, the lock system and everything... He bloody waited almost 3 hrs before he broke in. He cleaned the apartment and took out the trash after murdering her. Cold blooded monster!
I know the Truly Criminal team won't see this, but I love this channel. I found it recently and I know this channel is going to continue to grow. They deserve it 👏

Such an amazing act of grace for Sasha’s parents to acknowledge the pain of the killer’s parents in the courtroom and so admirable of them to go into victim advocacy after their loss… it is such an incredible expression of their love for their daughter and I hope they find solace in that benevolent act.
@Ninsk Design Eloquently put. It shows the great compassion of some especially in the cold contrast of the brutal heartlessness of this crime. It still amazes me that humans are capable of such dichotomy of actions.
Cant be out clubbing and then go home alone. Not anymore anyway. I've taken women home that were so drunk and left them in their apartment and locked their door when I left. Not every guy has morals.
This is also the reason why I don't get myself drunk when I go out my friends.. lol I got to watch my female friends' safety and make sure they all arrive home safely. Someone has to be sober.
This. Women need to use logic.. The world isn't rainbows. I work security overnight in downtown and the amount of women you see walking home alone or with just one other girlfriend is stupid... Also add up that theyre pretty much half naked cause they go out clubbing or drinking
It's sad that everyone was concerned about her not making it home as they feel she was vulnerable, for it to be the fact that her going home was the worst option.
Her death was avoidable. The lock company knew there was flaws in the system and didn't fix it. She seemed like such a beautiful person, with a bright future that was taken from her.
As someone who's worked security many years, I'm appalled and disturbed. During the process of getting your guard certification, a background check is ran on you. This means this man, who had no prior criminal record, decided out of nowhere to rape and MURDER this young lady just for sport! Mind blowing. God rest her soul.
I have a feeling that this was not his first murder. He most likely had killed or attempted to kill another girl perhaps. As you can tell he had not perfected this ability to get away with murder because he left his fingerprints and other clues in the apartment. He also let himself be seen on the camera inside the building taking out two trash bags which came from her apartment. So he definitely was not a pro at this but probably had done something like this before or something close to it
@@CMF7692 : The vast majority of security personnel would be appalled by this crime but remember that this perp was an idiot & was overwhelmed by the opportunity that she presented. And I do believe that she presented the opportunity. There is a tendency: especially in places like Florida for women to ignore personal safety and to attract attention they don’t want. California has a similar problem. Most sexual predators are never caught or even accused. They attack and disappear without ever being suspected. As a guard; I hope it’s a valuable lesson to help you watch your colleagues. Remember what happened here and report strange people you work with. If people keep records of odd behaviour this kind of thing will reduce significantly .
@@JayJordanJuly I concur. Thank you for your view. Nonetheless, it's still perplexing that he went as far as MURDERING her. I get the rape part. But he murdered this girl and didn't do a good job of covered his tracks, which makes me believe he's never murdered anyone prior. 🤷🏾♂️
@@CMF7692 : Good eye Craig. It’s clear that this perp was an unmitigated moron. Watching the program shows the number of clumsy mistakes and the general cluelessness. He was born to go to jail. If you’ve ever watched Silence Of The Lambs... or read about fledgling killers you’ll note that they are dealing with new emotions and sensations. The excitement overwhelms them. I imagine that he fantasised about the scenario so often that he couldn’t help himself. He also couldn’t believe his luck. Remember what it felt like to get a quick feel of a tit when you were a teenager? Or your first actual pretty girl? The excitement can overwhelm people and they go too far. Killing a victim is apparently a heady experience for those afflicted with sadism. The knowledge that you can kill her coupled with her vulnerability. She knows that you could kill her and she’s begging for mercy. His boner could cut diamond at that moment. So killing her is like a climax... it can happen very quickly and will never be something he regrets. It’s inexperience and a lack of iq points that guided his next moves.... and we know what happened there. Killers like this have no remorse. They may regret getting caught. They’ll know that they are hopelessly addicted to the kill. Stalking is fun for them as is the pain and panic of the victim. It’s substance abuse with pain and fear being the substance. You’re not a sadist so it seems foreign... so think about something illicit that you KNOW you shouldn’t like... but you LOVE. That’s sadism. It’s shameful... you would die of embarrassment if people knew this about you... but you can’t help thinking about it regularly.
This was just horrible. She didn't die on the hands of some stranger outside her home, the guy who was supposed to protect her home did it. Damn. Don't they do background checks on their employees especially when it's a Security company? I bet that monster did something before. No one does that spur of the moment, he's already a sexual predator and was just waiting for the right moment when his victim was intoxicated enough to easily subdue. she can't fight that hard when she's drunk and he took advantage of that. Just sad.

In this case it wouldn't have helped. She was killed in the safety of her home by the one person who was responsible for the safety in her apartment building.
@@Kyra_of_Kerkyra I just feel she would’ve had a stronger chance of avoiding this creep if she was with a friend, someone who knows her and has been in her apartment before helping her get back in.
Maybe they were just as drunk, if not drunker, than she was. If one of the friends had gotten raped that night would you say Sasha is to blame because she didn't stay with the friend or walk them home?
While I agree with the commenters stating that women shouldn't be walking home alone after having drinks, this story really had nothing to do with that. This woman was raped and murdered after making it home safe to her own bed. This is so beyond sickening. If you live in an apartment or condominium building like this, get yourself one of those door stops you put under the door knob when you come in. Better yet, have someone install a chain or slide lock. You can take it off when you move and you'll feel a lot more secure. I've also lived in an apartment with security and maintenance people who could just walk into your place. God bless her family.
But see that's the problem. Women should be able to go out and enjoy themselves like men the same age as her do all the time. But we can't even do that without someone trying to take advantage of that. The people responsible for that behavior should be ashamed not the victims. It's ridiculous a woman cannot take a walk at night or go out drinking and having a good time without fear for our lives. Just so sad and sickening.
@@luminvader8911 this is the problem, this right here. Her parents seem like genuinely nice people helping others in spite of going through such grief. They felt bad for the murderers mother. I bet sasha was as good as her parents. R.i.p sasha.
Do you really think no one noticed that? You do realize that he was on video all over the building at all hours because it was his job to patrol the building, right? It doesn't make him any less a POS but the fact that he was simply on camera 3 hours after he'd been on camera before isn't a clue of anything except him doing sweeps of the building, which is what he was paid to do. Now, him being on camera carrying trash bags 38 minutes after he clocked out was most definitely suspicious.
@@mommy2libras why do u have an attitude? Goose was just pointing this game out like you pointed out him taking out the trash bags. Him leaving the second floor after three hours and not being spotted in other cameras doing a sweep is more suspicious than him carrying trash bags.
@@2012banksnb I think you have the timeline wrong and @mommy2libras is correct here. So there wasn’t a 3 hour gap of footage showing Steven. This video just cuts ahead to 5:13am to show at that time Steven heading up to her apartment.

Getting drunk may make it easier for them but people who want to attack you can even do it in broad daylight if they've assessed correctly that the people around you will just watch out of interest, blame & trash talk the victim them move on, not caring once to find out what's actually going on.
I take in quite the fair share of true crime but this case truly shakes me up. Every female has been in a situation with a hovering creep like him. Her cues are easy to pick up on.
Seriously what good was the locking system if it was reset by a douche by just a Google search
I know the Truly Criminal team won't see this, but I love this channel. I found it recently and I know this channel is going to continue to grow. They deserve it 👏
Thank you so much ❤️ such lovely comment to wake up to!
You deserve all the success in the world, you make such a huge difference in my life, I know I'm not the only one! I'm honored to have gotten a reply, thank you
Such an amazing act of grace for Sasha’s parents to acknowledge the pain of the killer’s parents in the courtroom and so admirable of them to go into victim advocacy after their loss… it is such an incredible expression of their love for their daughter and I hope they find solace in that benevolent act.
So beautifully said ❤️
@Ninsk Design Eloquently put.
I'm glad some do have morals, thank you! It's everyone's responsibility to keep each other save but we need more good examples from men 😊
@@RainRemnant All my friends are the same. If any of us ever did something like that, we would get an ass whooping.
This is also the reason why I don't get myself drunk when I go out my friends.. lol I got to watch my female friends' safety and make sure they all arrive home safely. Someone has to be sober.
Yeah, getting drunk isn’t a crime. No victim-blaming please.
Great observation!
So he definitely was not a pro at this but probably had done something like this before or something close to it
@@denisebrock3154 Possibly. 🤷🏾♂️ It would definitely make more sense if he did.
Just sad.
@Consistency main What a jerk of comment. I’ll never for the life of me understand why friends let their friend go off alone after a night of drinking. ALWAYS stick together.
@@CocoAvalon now you’re reaching and changing the scenario. All I said was when you go out drinking with friends, no one leaves alone.
@@thelateeway2050 Sorry, my bad! A lot of people in other comments were actually saying that and I may have mixed your sentiments with theirs.
You cant ignore her child like levels of irresponsibility. So many red flags, she was never fit to live on her own.
Always Always have additional secure lock inside too 🔐 biometric locks isn't enough on its own
But see that's the problem.
Why can’t you hold each other accountable, why can’t you admit how irresponsible she was as a grown adult, and how this could so easily have been avoided. She seems like someone who needs to be babysat when drunk- a girl like that shouldn’t be living alone.
@@deezelkane and that's apart of victim blaming culture. I don't drink personally. But anyone of any gender shouldn't have to fear someone will attack or kill them when they are inebriated, or sober, or walking alone , or doing anything mundane. The people who should be blamed are the ones that assault stalk abs murder the victims. I'm not saying that I'm not careful all the time. But as a woman I can't even go out at night alone if I need something or medicine and walk back to my car in peace. I have to be on guard all the time. No one should have to fear for their safety doing everyday activities. And the thing is she still got home safe. He broke in. And killed her. So regardless she got home ok. She didn't leave her door unlocked. She didn't allow him in. He broke in and did what he wanted. None of that was her fault.
Anyone blaming this poor girl for being drunk...this could be your Mother, sister or daughter. Women should be allowed to enjoy life without evil scum thinking it's ok to attack them.
It's not just about her being drunk. I know children who take more care when they're out and about
They should, yes. We should also though take precautions because we do know that predators exist.
@@deezelkane But that didn't have anything to do with her case. She was already home and in her apartment when her murderer broke in.
Look at all the perpetrators same XY chromosomes.
@The Aussie Family she came home drama free, sane, coherent, and went to bed, yes ??? That is how it happened. Nothing could have been done different to not tempt the wolves ? God I hope you’re really not that silly
There are so many bad people out there that want to destroy either a single person’s life or many peoples lives. 🤔😕☹️
Sho You Rite...So True.
Unfortunately most of these people who murder don't care about families friends and most of all the person who's the victim..this wasn't a person but an object that satifys there needs and it's sick and sad and the security company and the apartment owners failed this woman this man did not have a proper background check...where she should of felt the safest was the opposite single female living alone stood no chance with this monster
Oh my goodness, at 2:06 she was literally running away from him. She knew he was creepy and kept walking around to get rid of him or find someone else else. So sad.
It's likely that she lied about not remembering her code because she didn't want him seeing her type it in too
The moment he said he thought he saw her again later but didn’t document it and wasn’t sure, I knew it was him.
Her parents seem like genuinely nice people helping others in spite of going through such grief. They felt bad for the murderers mother. I bet sasha was as good as her parents. R.i.p sasha.
I thought immediately Steven was a liar , nobody noticed the 3 hour gap in the footage🙄
You sound like you're the detective lol
@@mommy2libras why do u have an attitude? Goose was just pointing this game out like you pointed out him taking out the trash bags. Him leaving the second floor after three hours and not being spotted in other cameras doing a sweep is more suspicious than him carrying trash bags.
@@2012banksnb Yes! I was gonna say the same thing.
@@2012banksnb I think you have the timeline wrong and @mommy2libras is correct here. Steven did his normal routine for a few hours after she got into her apartment then broke in around 5:15am to begin the assault. He left with the trash bags an hour and 15m later. So there wasn’t a 3 hour gap of footage showing Steven. This video just cuts ahead to 5:13am to show at that time Steven heading up to her apartment.
I wonder if she was stomping hard going up the stairs on purpose, trying to get someone to come out of their apartment and help her? 😔
Glad he got life with no parole. What an absolutely beautiful, vivacious, young lady taken much too soon... for what, one man's pleasure, since he probably couldn't get anyone else anyways??!! @@Otaku_Love-c3r Lol, keep telling yourself that to give yourself that false sense of security. It's a load of crap. I was fully dressed, covered up, not drinking or partying when I was attacked. All predators need to see is that the people around their prey are lazy/dumb/or just let people get away with criminal behavior and they feel emboldened.
The women who looked out for her and made sure that she
