    “Our worth is not dependent on what scores we get on the tests” Love that.

      I used to have that quote posted in my classroom. I saw way too many kids burnout or have anxiety attacks in middle school and high school. Thanks for watching!

    Do you have to send anything back when you use the charter funds?
    I’m surprised to hear you have to buy books at their age level. With homeschooling, the point is that we can meet them where they’re at. Like my 6 year old needs pre k language curriculum and books because she’s having trouble learning to read still but she’s doing second grade math.
    We get funding in Arizona too. It’s about 8K per year and we don’t send any back, no age level on books, just can’t be for adults. No state testing, etc. it’s been so helpful!! I’m glad there are options in other states too! It’s just interesting to hear the rules of all the different ones.

      @lifeinthetrenches  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Wow, that's A LOT of $$$! I'm interested in the different homeschool rules around the country and world as well. Thank you for sharing about Arizona!
      In California, we get about $3600 per year (this varies from charter school to charter school), more for high schoolers. We have the freedom to choose books, curriculum, and resources that meet our kids' needs and are not grade level dependent. We have to return non-consumable items that are still in good condition when our kids graduate or leave the charter school. As for the Amazon Bookshelf funds (about $200/year), we are able to keep what we purchase but are limited to the grade level.
      I use our funds for classes, field trips, and consumable resources. I opt to purchase our curriculum out of pocket so I don't have to worry about returning them.

    That’s really nice cuz I took my kids out of public school started to homeschool I have bout $3,000 worth of curriculum this year for 4 kids but we don’t have to do the testing it gives my kids anxiety so I’d rather them not have to but we are in Texas

      So expensive, but I guess way cheaper than private school! FYI - there's a homeschool curriculum resell group on Facebook if you ever want to get rid of your old curriculum, and if you find a homeschool community you vibe with, they often have exchanges or used sales.

    Loved this haul video and your voice. Very glad to find your video. I’m also homeschooling at CA, and my kid went to CAVA(K12 virtual school) since 2rd Grade after COVID. Recently, we sat down and talked if she wants to continue CAVA or go back to traditional school, or try something else. She is doing great at CAVA, just feels bored most time. And she is turning 5th grade this fall, and we are looking for alternative options for her schooling. I would love to hear more info related to CA homeschooling options and resources. ❤ Thanks in advance!

      Thank you 🥰 We have a lot of choices here in California! I will definitely make a video about it in the future, but you can find independent study charter schools serving your area by visiting this site: www.cde.ca.gov/ds/si/cs/ap1/imagemap.aspx
      Some of the charters offer in-person classes, or like ours, will pay for classes offered by homeschool vendors. My kids take art, LEGO engineering, and are part of a local self-directed learning program.
      You can also inquire to see if your local school district offers alternative programs.
      Also, the CHN is a good resource: www.californiahomeschool.net/
      And I love that you ask your daughter what she wants to do! I ask my kids at the end of every school year if they want to continue with homeschooling, go to public school, or try something new.

    We’re in Ca with the heartland charter school. We got a grant this year on top of the other money. A extra thousand dollars, just had to be spent on curriculum only. Not extracurricular activities but it was awesome to get most next years things already. This is our first year with them so not sure how often the grants come around.

    Nothing wrong with outside play!!! Stationary is always needed and I stock up on it!!! My planner starts in March as well!!! We had to switch state as my work allows us to homeschool thru Hawaii as that’s where the company is based and our government is making homeschool difficult!!! My company requires a lot of ppl to travel so they encourage homeschooling for that reason!!! We have a convention oven and we love it!!!

    New subscriber & loved this video. How old is your son that reads Rick Riordan? My son is a huge fan too and has read so many of those titles also. I am like you, we generally borrow from the library because they take up so much space, but I did buy him a 4 box set for Christmas.
    I agree with your thoughts on state testing. Our children are so much more than the results. We homeschool in New York and it is highly regulated here. We have a few options for testing, but I still don’t like having to test them.
    Your aprons are so cute!!

    • @lifeinthetrenches
      @lifeinthetrenches  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm loving the aprons, but I keep forgetting to wear them 😂 My son is 12 and is reading Riordan’s books aloud to his 8 year old brother. It's a win-win AND gives my voice a break. And it'd be nice if we didn't have to test, but 🤷🏻‍♀️
