I think you missed the ominous part. It definetely has some vibe that "warmth will soon come to an end". It's subtle at first but obvious when male choir starts
Saw this on steam and I had to say thank you. I haven't played fable in a long time but I just redownloaded it because of how good the soundtracks are. This is a great cover. Thank you for bringing back a piece of my childhood to me.
very gloomy and fantastical at the same time, fable had that child like fantasy feel like a old legend but it was very grim in nature, the guy who made the soundtrack is really talented its so good to see people appreciating game soundtracks more in recent years
@@Eldorias the vampire the masquerade bloodlines soundtrack is probably my all time favorite, the oblivion and nehrim soundtracks being my second, the masquerade is mainly electronic grunge it would be harder to turn into piano but the oblivion soundtrack might be more flexible that way
For people commenting about the piece sounding dark, yet fantastical and mischievous at the same time, there is a reason for it 😃. The opening/main Fable theme (central melody in this piece) was composed by Danny Elfman, Hollywood composer who is famous for this kind of stuff (Simpson's theme, Batman 1989 and all of Tim Burton's movies). You can find Russel Shaw recollecting on his blog, how they were planning to make soundtrack "sound like dark fantasy, like Danny Elfman's stuff", to which someone jokingly replied "We should hire him to do it", at which they all laughed. However at their surprise, after Microsoft become involved with development of the game, and big bucks where brought into the picture, the studio actually hired Danny Elfman to compose the main theme. Shaw then used the melodies and motifs from the main theme for the rest of the soundtrack.
@@Eldorias Yep, however Oakvale (and Knothole Glade which is just strings version) probably reference the main theme's melodic and harmonic material the most. That's what I meant by Danny Elfman influence being at work here. That being said, I think you can certainly make the case that it's Shaw's arrangement and orchestration that glues it together in way to produce the affect... However, I would notice that other pieces that don't reference the main theme as much don't really capture this elusive "whimsical, but calm, bright yet dark, fantasy vibe", they sound more straightforward one way or the other IMO...
Fable 2 means alot to me as it was the golden age of gaming, atleast to me it was. Halo 3, Gears of War and Fable were my life as a teenager. I'm hoping Fable 4 doesn't flop and that the music is just as beautiful as this piece. Great video.

This song is perfect at capturing a child-like mischief and curiosity with a sense of wonder and warmth. Such a well thought out theme.
Yes I love this theme so much

Yes but Danny Elfman only composed the main theme, Oakvale music was composed by Russell Shaw :)
