FreeCAD - How To Model From Image|JOKO ENGINEERING|

The basis here is to use splines for the complex curves. I recommend 3 click per spline and making the middle point horizontal and vertical to the endpoints to ensure the spline starts/ends on vertical for 'smooth connections' if possible.

hi, im having an error every time i try to import the file that i want to use(create a planar image in the 3d space). "Unhandled Base::Exception caught in GUIApplication::notify. The error message is: Access violation" im using freecad 0.18.

I am having some trouble with this. After I make the sketch and try to make a pad, there is an error that says "Failed to validate broken face." It looks like all the points are coincidental. Do you know what the problem is?

I think you're on the right track with your troubleshooting. You can also get that error when construction/reference geometry is accidentally set to be driving geometry. I've had that happen a lot.

Hi Rob, sometimes that comes up when lines in the sketch appear to be connected but aren't actually connected. Sometimes there is a single sketch point that is there but should't be there. Either one of those solve it?

In the combo view, select your sketch from the tree, go to the data tab, and choose map reverse=true

I'm not able to replicate the problem you're experiencing. Images disappear when your view is parallel to them. Does rotating the viewport allow you to view them? Otherwise the community on freecadweb.org might be able to help.

I think thats because FreeCAD is using your CPU Graphics. At the bottom comes an error, when you try it. When the error is something with "Access Violation", then look at my comment by TIMTRON ANIMATIONS TIM.

Are you using a laptop? FreeCAD is using your CPU Graphics. That causes an error. Solutions are to use an PC or to find a way out, that FreeCAD uses your Graphics Card.

Full constraints are always a best practice, but when it comes to splines of this nature it's hard to do. I usually don't worry about it.

I am trying to use a reference image for modelling a car, but for some reason the back side of the image is black. Is there any way to make the image viewable from both directions.

If not, you could mirror the image and add it again on the other side.

Yes, edit>Preferences>Display> Check enable backlight color

Can't figure out how to start... the steps on my screen do not follow yours. I select "Part design" and click the new document and from there it is nothing like what you show.

@@EslavaxD8 Having the same issue over here...I found that green flower, but when I open the one that only shows the flower, "open image view", it opens...well, a new window to view the image. The one to create a planar image in the 3D space would be the one I'd expect to import the .png or .jpg file (tried both) to the workdesk so I can, as shown in the video, start drawing on top of it. But the image doesn't show, although the tree on the left shows an image plane. Did you have the same issue?

Sometimes that means you're editing a sketch on a plane perpendicular to the image. If you tilt your view or go isometric do you see the image again?
