I’ve never actually been somewhere before it blew up (Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, and Be More Chill) but now I’m making people at my school love it. And since it’s a prep school with inverted popularity rules I’m friends with the popular theater geeks so now ITS STARTING

Craig- “Who’s Nick?”
Jennifer- Oh yes. Such a long and dramatic story short,
Nick was my best friend since we were babies
We did everything together our whole lives
I told him all my secrets, when I told him who I knew I was, like on the inside
Things just got weird. And when i started my transition, he was different
It was strange he completely changed, but I thought he'd come around
He’d retreat, tell me i'm a freak

The last time that i saw her, she could barely form a sentence
She's in second grade, now she's in second grade
Karen understand Im sick
Well she prefers the word unbalanced
So that's what we say
I guess it takes the sting away for her
I could hear her growing through the phone
She told me how's she doing
She's in second grade, but she talks just like a lady
She asked me when I might come home, I told her, maybe soon
Karen told me not to lie to her, you're always lying she says
But, you know what I think its ok.

But keeping the truth from someone who couldn't possible handle the reality
I don't know. The truth hurts sometimes. I don't wanna hurt anybody

cause it’d just be too painful to understand

I love this song so much. The way it talks about how the main cast have been treated by others once they told them about they're mental condition is completely realistic, or at least from what I've personally experienced.
People you've known for years will call you a freak, diminish your illness, or just cut you off completely. For some reason, it's ok if you have a shoulder pain or whatever, but as soon as your mind isn't perfect, your demented. People with mental illnesses may be different, but they're human too, and want to be treated that way. I really love how these songs are perfectly describing different mental conditions, especially depression, suicide, and anxiety conditions
i'm in love with this musical already, i hope it at the very least gets a cast album. i'm so glad that there's a canon trans woman- does anyone know if she's trans in the movie/book too?

yeah and the also uses her dead name (like craig refers to her as "jennifer/charles" or "J/C" instead of "jennifer" in the book)
These songs deserve way more recognition. The way they mix music, and story telling is amazing.
i first listened to this musical when i was 14/15 in HS, i'd listen every morning before school as my way to cope. now i found it again while looking at bryce pinkham's stuff and holy shit has it put things into perspective. now im 20 living on my own with my cat, going into my 3rd year of college and 2nd year of being an art teacher. clean of self harm for over 2 years
