I was a Luthier and a CNC machinist for 40 years. My hunch is they got their name from the grade of Stainless Steel they're using, 304 is medical grade stainless steel. Very tough material which resists tarnishing, wear, and distortion. My hats off to the gentlemen behind this company for developing these guitars. It's nice to know innovation is not dead and yes I will be visiting their website to order my own guitar from them. Congratulations gentlemen, nicely done.

Having a Stainless Steel Noteboard as 304 calls the Fret board creates endless possibilities. Stainless Steel can be heat treated to any colour or a range of colours in the same Noteboard as you like or willing to pay for. Polish the frets and you have stainless steel frets against a background colour. This is a great break through idea, with no tuning or Fret buzz as I have with my PRS P22. With all the guitar brands out there which are all variants of the same idea, the way forward is to produce a guitar that is not "me too" as this is a real alternative, My take on this, 304 would need to offer guitars with a choice of timbers, pickups and hardware. Imagine, Ziricote Timber Top and bottom, Hollow Body, Piezo, Satin Spruce neck, locking tuners, Bare Knuckle pickups. Never go out of tune, endless tones, hand it down to your grand children to enjoy.
Why would this product not succeed in the right hands. I wish the company good fortune.

I read through many of the comments before I decided to make one of my own. While many are concerned about the bridge's intonation capabilities being limited and the stainless fixed nut creating issues with different gauge strings, I perceive this as only a minor concern simply because these are not mass produced they are individually ordered guitars, and as a guitar player of over 40 plus years, I have specific gauges of strings that I use with specific instruments. I do not change string gauges on my guitars once I set them up; if I am going to be playing a style of music that requires a heavier or lighter gauge to create the desired sound I will buy and build a guitar around that sound's setup needs.
Another thing that I would point out is that if you look at how the nut on the guitar is crafted it is not slotted in the traditional manner associated with bone and composite nuts; instead it is machined in similar fashion as one would find bridge saddles to be cut. They are more of a cradle than a slot which should allow for gauge variations without a need to recut the nut. If changing string sizes is your thing then I would order the Hipshot traditional bridge and forgo the staggered through the body ferrel type. However, I would question how this system would differ from an acoustic style bridge that is fixed except for string height adjustment? I cannot imagine that this company put this much time and effort into developing such an innovative system and not have considered such limiting possibilities. It is like anything new to such a historic market, something that defies all convention is usually met with extreme skepticism. Just my opinion and while that and 10 cent won't a coffee buy, I felt it was relavent.

    • @BrunodeSouzaLino
      @BrunodeSouzaLino 2 ปีที่แล้ว

In terms of guitar design, there have been very little innovations in the field for more than 50 years. The Evertune bridge was one of those, the Fluence pickups were more an revolution of the standard active pickup form. This is a solution for a problem that doesn't exist.

The only design "flaw" i can see, and like some guys already pointed out, is the intonation with different tunings/string gauges. You would have to replace the bridge accordingly to the tuning and strings you use and that might be a big problem, or not a problem at all if the designers thought this through and will offer different bridges for different tunings. If the design is good, it will be a walk in the park to change the bridge. Couple of screws and few minutes of work and you're done. All things considered, i am very impressed. Well done guys!! Me neither. Yet, there will always be people claiming that not only does the fretboard "make all the difference in the world for tone", but that they can even "hear" how the type of lacquer that was applied affects the tone.
And my favorite: satin vs gloss finish on the fretboard makes an audible difference 🤣

I remember my friend had a Kramer Bass his complaints was the coldness of the neck and the balance (neck drop), and this is with a wooden fingerboard , so what about if you are doing a Gig in a hot or cold climate, you are going to find a big difference from the touch of wood to meatal. Having said that It looks and sounds great and the engineering behind it is excellent.

Hi Darrell - I enjoyed this a lot. I always like it when you do "weird" guitars. Sometime if possible (though you may not be interested), it would be really cool to me if you could do a review of a Dean Zelinsky "Tagliare" with it's "sidekick" pickups. I would also love to see a review of a Frank Stallone Guitar's "Tigress" guitar. These are some weird guitars that I like the look of, but never see anybody review. Just an idea, take it or leave it. Best regards!

WOW. A guitar with a rock solid neck, perfect intonation, lovely sustain and chime. Sounds like an excellent platform for a worthy competitor to a RIC 12. Price such a model properly and the boys in Santa Ana might start to get a wee bit nervous.

  • @Barbarapape

I now have some preorder pricing from 304 guitars.
These are in Canadian dollars with an approx GBP.
    304 Original $3795 £2224
    304 Special $4295 £2517
Not exactly affordable for most guitar players.
I can remember when Parker first lauched the Fly, and it was expensive
and of limited appeal at the time.
Now they are hard to find and still expensive.
So if you have deep pockets and willing to keep one for a few years,
they might make a good investment, but just don't play it.
You will never get the fingerprints off the stainless steel fretboard.

A bridge that can't be adjusted for intonation? Seems stupid to me. Just changing string height affects intonation. Also, I have to wonder whether the steel fretboard expands and contracts significantly more than wood with temperature changes, thus requiring more tuning adjustments.

They should make a scalloped flat radius version 😉 but what if someone would want to lower the tuning and change string gauges. How would the intonation stay right? Oh and just so you know the link to the website in the description doesn’t work because of the hash tags.

    • @the.communist

Changing gauges doesnt affect intonation, neither raising or lowering saddles one or two mm.
