    Hello there, I'm a complete begginer and just bought this cornet as of 10/2021. They seem to actually have listened to you, Trent! They removed the ugly growth under the slider ring and improved drastically the de-burring of the valves. I was getting ready to do the job only to find out that it was perfectly done! I was also going to give it a thorough wash, but noticed that the valves and sliders where actually pretty clean, no black goop nor metallic residue anywhere to be found. This cornet is a bloody unicorn for it's price. Cheers!

    I got a King 603 cornet from eBay last year for $175. There are hardly any dents/scratches on it. I used it to play solo cornet on Procession of the Nobles last year with my high school concert band and let me just say that was the luckiest purchase I’ve ever made online.

    I am surprised at the improvement of the quality of discounted Chinese made trumpet and cornet for the last 1-2 years. However, they are due to specific factory products. For example, Stomvi's body is also made in China. However, it is sad that there is a case that the instrument is broken if it is a direct delivery from China. Hahaha…

    My thing with super cheap instruments like this, is that the used market is just so much better. I bought a 50s(ish) getzen tone balanced super deluxe cornet for less than that, and it’s a quality instrument, sounds great, plays great, absolutely zero complaints for my first brass instrument (woodwinds for many years).

      My friend has a 70's Olds Ambassador with it.
      My 50's Ambassador has a much weirder situation: there is a mount for a finger ring--on the SLEEVE, where it can't push the slide out at all! My friend insists it's a lyre holder, but it looks nothing like the lyre holders I've seen, and everything like a finger ring holder. And indeed when I first inherited the cornet fifteen years ago I think it even had a cheap finger ring mounted in it.

    The bump on the slide key is not unprecedented. The Olds Ambassador cornet had one too. I've had 2 of those horns, one from 1956 and one from 1972. They both had the bump. It's exactly for what you said it is for. The reason they put it there is because the horns i had were student horns, as i suspect the horn you're showing today is purposed for, given the price.

    Can you play an alto trombone with a trumpet mouth piece and get any musical value with it?

    • @Markworth
      @Markworth 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It kind of works, but sounds pretty thin and icky. You need one with a really long taper since alto bone is small tenor shank. A wide and shallow baroque trumpet mouthpiece sounds pretty good, if you don't mind your mouthpiece costing more than your horn. Seems like most players are looking for the exact opposite of "bright and heroic" sound on the alto, though.
