      I can kind of understand why the early Madea movies have their fans. Apart from the tonal whiplash, there is actually a plot in it. I feel like the later films is Perry saying, "I have all this money now so I can make anything I want no matter what! Did Chris Rock mention something about a Madea Halloween movie in his film? Hmmmmmmmm...."

    Ah, the movie that started it all. I remember back when it was released, all the critics were like, “This had the potential to be a decent movie, but then this Madea character suddenly shows up and ruins the whole thing.” I think it was Roger Ebert who described it as basically sticking an In Living Color character (and not one of the good ones) in the middle of a serious drama. Little did they know that Madea was Tyler Perry’s signature character, and they’d end up getting about 15 more years worth of movies not only featuring her but STARRING her.

    Here before LionsCunt false flags
    On a serious note, I do admire Tyler Perry, kinda. He was homeless and drug addict. While in the home, he would write his plays on the wall. This got the attention of the supervisor thought it would be a great idea without other people in the home to perform them. this, of course, Got the attention of local journalist, which Got the attention oh small theaters, which got the attention of bigger theaters, which eventually resulted in him being world-famous, he literally went from nothing, not even having paper, to millionaire

      Tyler Perry’s life story is far more interesting than ANY of his projects! He came from below-the-bottom to beyond-the-top with his platform as a thespian, and despite my disdain for just about all of his works, Perry’s work ethics remain commendable.

      Come to think of it, that would be a pretty badass movie. Maybe it would be titled “Tyler Perry’s Madea’s White Friends.” Greg’s father begins beating on Greg’s mother and Madea comes to the rescue just in the nick of time with Uncle Joe, Hattie, Aunt Bam. Together, they form a team know as “The Silly-side Squad” so they can take turns beating the daylights out of Greg’s father. Before leaving, Madea gives Greg’s father a few words of advice (divorce Greg’s mother and marry her, because if you beat on her the house will collapse).

  •  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The Madea franchise is the ultimate "never trust a title" series. You expect all the films to feature the many misadventures of Madea, but instead, she serves to break the monotony of several serious subplots which are the main focuses of most of the films. It also serves as "Severe Mood Whiplash: The Film Series".
    Also, the end of this film adds in spiritual fantasy by having Charles walk again and the drug addict clean from drugs enough to start belting out? Ultimate barf.

    The beginning of the Medea Saga. Pretty bizarre that the first Medea movie was one where she was mostly a side character. Also for the first "Medea" movie, its tonally all over the place. There were dark dramatic moments and light comedic moments sprinkled through out the movie, it kinda feels like there were two different movies were being made, or since this was based on a stage play, two different plays being produced and crammed into one. Great episode this week.

  • @138veronica
    @138veronica 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So, I'm surprised no one has pointed out the creepy recurring gag about Uncle Joe's incest fetish. He hits on just about all of his grandnices and greatgrandnices, even if they are underaged and or if he watched them grow up. A creepy example of this is in A Madea Family Reunion where he recognizes one of his great grandaughters (who is clearly an underaged teenager) in booty shorts, comments that knows her daddy, hasn't seen her since she was a little girl, and asks her to get him some soda from a cooler. He then PULLS OUT A CAMECORDER, TELLS HER TO DIG DEEP, AND RECORDS HER LECHEROUSLY AMONGST HIS BROTHERS/NEPHEWS/COUSINS WHATEVER! The poor girl didn't even know her Uncle Joe was objectifying her. The same movie had one of the (mistreated female) protagonists Vanessa describing her past molestation as a dramatic event, which makes both uses as plot devices quite jarring in their opposing tones. I know Tyler Perry has a history of being molested and often uses it as a dramatic plotpoint in his works, but it seems odd that he uses the concept as a form of comedy through Uncle Joe.
    Also, no one points out how Orlando is rapidly trying to move in on and marry an emotionally vulnerable Helen who has just been forcefully evicted from her home without a divorce or a chance to hire a lawyer and fight for at least alimony. He proposed before she even got her first rings off her finger and comes off as a stalkerish "nice guy" trting to rescue her before she has the chance to process what's happened. All the men in this film sans Brian seem so skeevy.
