+Misa Amane Yes there are. They coach a speller in things like Greek and Latin root words, memorization techniques, languages of origin... You could probably find one online, if you're interested.
That's amazing! I'd really like a spelling coach. I'm trying to make it to at LEAST the regional spelling bee, since I only made it to district last time. I have 7th and 8th grade to try. I hope I can find one!
Backfisch is an immature young girl?? *lool* Here in Germany NOONE knows that. Here a Backfisch is a fish meal. I fried fish. Mostly eaten with Kartoffelsalat that is potatoe salad. And, you don't pronounce it like he was: Baaaackfisch. It's BACKfisch. You've got to pronounce the first part of the word fast because of the "ck".
It's an old term, e.g. used by young people in the 1930s. So, you're right, no one uses it anymore and even though it seems pretty weird from today's perspective, the word used to refer to that definition.
The judge is a total fail. WTF is Scherenschnitter??! Neither it's spelled ScherenschnittE not it's pronounced ScherenschnittER. Correct is: Scherenschnitt !! Scherenschnitte is plural. And Scherenschnitter just doesn't exist.
Being an Indian I am compelled to write this. and pls don't hate me for this... below are the following observations I have summed up watching the 2 winners from the contest. I wish If I ever have a child getting ready for such a contest...I will make sure they do NOT follow below... this is how an Indian child does for every word...and wins each time vs other bright kids. can you pls repeat the word? can you pls give the definition? what is the language of origin? is there an alternative word/pronunciation? part of speech? can you pls repeat the word? start writing down on their palm...? Pretty Lame in my opinion...
That's what I'm saying. I was in the regional spelling bee at this one school and remember, this is round 1 were talking. My word was Psoriasis and I surprisingly spelled it correct! I was happy. I didn't win the regional bee, but I never asked for anything like, the origin, part of speech, definition or anything. That crap gets annoying.
Jonathan Ingram I Agree with you man. no one does it. the kid should know the language of origin/part of speech etc... esp...when they know they are going to appear for an event like this.
T K Narayanan True. It's not against the rule. But if every kid does it for each question asked then what's the point of preparing for these events? and imagine the amount of hours it will take just to get through to each round with so many participants present. I believe participants should have these answers instead of verifying. honestly, It amazes me...I had never seen any kid doing it (I myself never did it as a kid...either you know the answer or don't. if you don't know...then find ways to learn it) and in my opinion...and this is just an opinion, it makes the kid looks unconfident.

I'm about to be in a spelling bee its nerve racking
I can only say WOW!
Are there such things as spelling coaches?
+Misa Amane Yes there are. They coach a speller in things like Greek and Latin root words, memorization techniques, languages of origin... You could probably find one online, if you're interested.

Vanya's spelling coach is her dad. They really focus on the root words. Much like a reductionist approach.
is co-champ like second or a tie first
a tie in first
Most people are smart all over the world
Why does she look at her hand? To trace the letters out?
Yes
Because sometimes it helps people to spell the word
Sisters in Christ do you know her? She's my cousin
I tought it was bokfish

Shut up. You’re just jealous.
Why does Vanya constantly ask for the alternative pronunciations 1,000 times. Just spell it the way it sounds, it's not a life or death situation.
Jonathan Ingram As you may know, words are not always spelled the way they sound.
Jonathan Ingram The word "pterodactyl" for example: the "p" is silent. There are a lot of trick words.
to be honest I thought the announcer said thotfisch lol
insecurity speaks
It may not be a life or death situation, but considering she has studied for so long, and $40,000 is up for grabs, you don't want to rush
The judge is a total fail. WTF is Scherenschnitter??! Neither it's spelled ScherenschnittE not it's pronounced ScherenschnittER. Correct is: Scherenschnitt !! Scherenschnitte is plural. And Scherenschnitter just doesn't exist.
Get over it. You’re just jealous.

I cant believe that some people can make bad comments for this too.. this is insane.

NK11ism But if it's not against the rules there is no harm
