Thank you for your excellent video. I used it to rebuild my 4L80E in my RV. Used your videos as a reference and installed the HD2 kit and the Sonnax fix it kit. Works great. Thanks!
At 8 minute mark, the 4th clutch and center gearset are they flush? I feel like my pump is making contact with the center hub locking everything up I've pulled it apart a couple times and can't figure it out
What if that hole on the sun gear shaft doesn't line up with that notch on the sun gear? I'm using a press fit shaft it's so hard to install. I press fit it on the direct but when dropping it in I lined up the hole going down in but idk if I made it in correct. Is it the end of the world if it's not lined up? Is there a way to verify that it's in good though the valve body?
I see you know this transmission top to bottom, my trans in my 1995 Hummer H one comes out of fourth gear like you just turned a switch then sometimes it’ll come back in fourth gear like you just turn on a switch and other times it stays in third and will not go to fourth or overdrive I switched outside electric shifters and that does nothing to help it what would you think going wrongThe transmission is not sleeping at all but there is 200,000 miles on it
It sounds like the accumulator limit valve needs redone. They need reboard at 100,000 mi and your twice over. You can buy the kit to fix that, it's a transgo idem part # T-48-ACT-TL. And would replace manifold psi switch also. But you've probably already got it fixed it's been 9 months since your post.
Dude, I loving these vids! Easy to follow along with and everything. Now that almost all the vids are done, I'm half tempted to pull my 4l80e out of my '46 chev bus and get her rebuilt. One question tho.. I know I ran into this before with it but I guess mine is an early style 4l80 (post 1999 I think). Do you know what I might run into that's different than the newer ones?
1dickycat I believe the "early/late" is considered 96/97... The oil cooler line was moved to the rear on the late model(97+)... This changed the center support, output shaft, and a different supply tube for the rear... One other difference was the "Dished" vs "wave" plates for the clutch packs. I believe the early models had a narrow 1" forward band instead of the wider 1.25" band in the late model... Probably more stuff though.
a21bravo And this is the reason she hasn't been rebuilt 😂 Can't decide if that's what I wanna do or just get the newer style that has better/easier/more common aftermarket support.
a21bravo Yea.. The main thing is I utilize the drum style emergency break off the back of this trans.. Do you know if that could be swapped over to the later?
Ever since I lowered my truck to a 4/8 the driveshaft has been putting a lot of pressure on the transmission. This caused me to go through 3 built 4l60’s. Pulled the trigger and picked up a 4l80 last week. Any idea why there’s so much pressure? Been told it might be the pinion bearing on the diff but I don’t see how that will relieve pressure?
A 4/8 drop? So dropped rear 8 inches? Did the 4l60s all fail the same way? With that much of a drop you might be bottoming the yoke out in the transmission.
@@BlaserBuilds yea 8 inch drop in the back and 4 in the front. There’s trucks in my areas that have statik drops (10inches+) and are just fine. What do you think can be done ? I upgraded to a billet driveshaft so the driveshaft isn’t the problem
@@jasonloera3358 Bellhousing crack? Could be the driveline angle. If the operating angles on the U joints are wrong the shaft will vibrate and could cause premature bushing wear or maybe cracks if its bad enough. Engine angle, drive shaft angle, and pinion angle would affect this. You can use Tremec Toolbox app with phone to check angles.
Hello ,thanks for your vidéo , i really need your help please for the name of a piece in your vidéo in the minute 3:47 for my gearbox for buy one thanks u
Saved my life..the HD rings!!MONEY!!
Thank you... your installation is way better than every other video I've seen so far 👍
I was saying the same thing

Dude that was a FANTASTIC Video. Getting ready to watch the valve body assembly video next! Thank you!!!
Great video helped a bunch keep doing videos everything explained very well thanks
You made that look easy :)
Thanks for the play by play.
Excellent details thanks for the information
Nice!! Great detail! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Are there difrent style wave plates depending on year for the Intermediate clutch

How about checking that endplay and getting it where it should be not just putting the same selective washer back in it. 😆
So is this kit still relevant or is there a different kit I should use for rebuilding a junkyard 4l80e to hold some high power?
Awesome thanks
That one snap ring on that little edge wont allow the reverse drive to seat properly. Any idea why?
For some reason, I didn't have a wave plate when I tore my transmission apart.

It will not shift into overdrive from the shifter either top speed is about 40 miles an hour wind in the engine pretty hard
Dang can't get the rear planetary in there without that clamp, tried for four hours
harbor fart, here i come!
How do you get the turbine shaft seals on? I ripped mine :(((

1dickycat The 97+ also have a solid output shaft because of the different lube locations so I'd guess it's a bit stronger.

@@BlaserBuilds and yes all 4l60s not only burnt out but the bearings were beginning to crack due to the pressure it was under

@@BlaserBuilds yea it vibrates after 80mph, and I got the pinion angle fixed soon after lowering the truck
What was initially wrong with this unit??
This one I think was a bad pump. Unknown condition Craigslist deal that just stopped working.
