For someone who didn't spend a lot of time in the country I am not surprised by your views, in the law all sexual acts in public are illegal so no matter what is your sexuality you're not allowed to kiss or anything like that in public even if it's your wife or husband so if you make sure that you don't do that in public no one really care about your sexual preference or what you do in private. the undercover police is just a myth LOL, as you have the right to identify the police and they have to act legally to take any actions against normal people who don't threaten the national security or other people. it doesn't matter if you wear shorts or tank tops but it's not preferred to do so in public areas like malls or hotels etc.. and for a considerably conservative country like Qatar it's not really easy for tourists to know everything about it in a few days unless you have a local friend who show you around but anyone really will find something to do and enjoy their time their. Qatar is very secure and modern place but it has a conservative community that take pride of their culture and they appreciate that tourists and expats who represent at least 70% of the population respect that culture.

I agree with what you say about Lebanese restaurants. It seems like the only Arab restaurateurs anywhere in the world are the Lebanese, with the exception of Paris where one see a lot of Moroccan. The Gulf states are so absurdly wealthy that nobody really does their own cooking or any menial work for that matter. So the imported cooks cook what they know. Hence the Pakistani/Indian flavors one finds so often there.

Tha's not necessarily true. In Qatar, we do have Qatari restaurants where food is either cooked by Qataris or supervised by them. There is a restaurant called "Ard Al-Kanaan," located at Katara Cultural Village. We also have small boutique restaurants at Souq Waqif. In general, you can find Qatari food sold in Instagram accounts since there are restrictions on opening restaurants by the government, so some Qataris stick with selling food through Instagram and having a driver deliver it to your place .

I don't believe having under cover cops for gay people is something useful, they can use the time and energy to solve main issues. I am sorry if u feel discriminated in our countries. I am muslim, from Bahrain, and ya Bahrain is actually very cool and we have a lot of gays here 🙏🏼 and police will not stop u at all, but it's better to not have sex in public because it's not acceptable here. Anyways i wish u all the best habibi💜💜

Are you gay and you went to Qatar? Could you tell me your experience a little bit? I am soooo scared. You were able to have contact there with others homossexuals?
I look forward to your response!

This would have to be, one of the many draining videos I've watched. You could have summed it all up in 2 mins, rather than 15 mins

Just out of interest, how did you meet a local gay guy, if it's so frowned upon?

You are a ethnographic tourist. So history and culture of another place and time. Doha the middle east is the epitome of excess and competition amongst other ruling Arab families. They are fully tribal in that sense.
