    Thank you for the great video, and I adore your drumming style Jordan - so melodic and 'groovy'. You're not just about how fast and how quickly you can move around the kit. You make them sing, and I love watching / hearing you play.

    Great video Jordan! I found a TD50 kit on display at Guitar Center Lake forest CA and loved it. The snare really does have a much better feel than the regular mesh pads. Easy to compare because the rest of the pads are not the 2 ply mesh.
    And the editing ability on the module is a big improvement from the TD30. Roland has the manuals for all their drum modules on their web-site so its easy to see what the differences are as far as what they can do. But I cant argue with the comments about the
    price. Heck of a lot of money.

    I still got my Roland HD-3 V-Drums Lite kit, since 2012, which I still love. I recorded 318 videos using most of the HD-3 drum kit sounds. But the new TD-50 is fantastic!! Congratulations Roland!

    Thanks for this video... it's the most useful video I've seen so far in showing what this kit is capable of. And I'm only hearing the machine gun on electronic kits (obviously) and on the low toms on one of the last acoustic kits featured.

    6-Piece Electronic Drum Kit With Extra PDX-100 Pad And BT-1 Bar Trigger from fullcompass.com for $4799.99 with an additional tom to make it 4 toms like the modern drummers kit and a BT-1 digital trigger to trig my backups... Can't wait until they arrive!!!! I really don't care that they don't LOOK like real drums. I want the sound variations to play with.... FOREVER!! Don't care worth a damn what they look like! How noisy is this kit acoustically? Have they found a way to reduce/silence those loud "clack-clack" ?

    • @ralphgehteha9924
      @ralphgehteha9924 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They strive to make it feel like an acoustic cymbal, hence the surface is hard, hence the sound is loud and annoying. It's a fundamental misconception to constantly try to resemble an acoustic kit. It will never be, that's why you buy an electric kit. If you buy an electric kit and expect to get an acoustic one you'll never be satisfied. Take an electric kit as it is: It is an instrument of its own, with it's own possibilities and limitations, just like any other instrument. Make it as quite as possible without desperately trying to copy another instrument.

      Thomas Abts - I agree thank you 😊 it's actually should be a CRIME how much they're selling this new kit for $7,500.!!!.. "REALLY!!"" There is absolutely no reason why this piece is worth $7,500.???. Module maybe $2,000. But the actual kit NO-WAY-IN-HELL!. I bought a Big Chrome plated rack like this -Cost -$375. The Shells and pads can be made sooooo cheap! I've bought a Cheap Pearl Soundcheck 5-Piece kit "BRAND NEW " $399. Chrome rack-$375. triggers all 5-drums - $160. I'm under a thousand dollars correct? So if Roland is making these shells trust me it costs them alot less than my Pearl Soundcheck at $399. There kit shouldn't be anymore than $3,000. tops.. Should be lower but I'm assuming they want to make profit.. But $7,500. IS WAY TOO MUCH PROFIT WTH????.. They think they deserve what $4,000. dollars profit per each kit? Roland is Bullshit! I'll buy the new Huge Alesis Strike Pro 11-piece kit before anymore Roland thefts.

    Great job Jordan! I like how your style favors the father of great drumming, Buddy Rich. It's also great to see a demonstration video showing how one does not have to play V-Drums like a gorilla (use acoustic-like force) in order to get a great response from them. Alot of people who demonstrate V-Drums seem to be just "Whack-a-mole" drummers. Maybe they didn't get an owner's manual with theirs. haha.

      Kirk Shipp Hey, ever thought of an acoustic kit with meshheads + Zildjian L80 / Gen16 cymbals? Way cheaper, way more realistic, because of the natural metal surface of the cymbals. I'm practicing on such a kit every day. It's so nice ;)

      +Robert Lucas so would that be 4 extra pads? I recall seeing that somewhere

    • @robertlucas9867
      @robertlucas9867 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have snare, bass, four Tom, two crash, one ride (two dedicated inputs for ride), one hi hat (two dedicated inputs also for hi hat) four auxiliary inputs and on this TD-50 three USB ports for the new digital pads. So 16 inputs plus three USB ports. Hopefully that's not confusing and you can go online and see a photo of the module.

    • @carpii
      @carpii 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      the new digital ride only takes up one digital usb, so that frees up two analog inputs you used to use, plus snare is digital. so you have 3 more free analogs than td30, plus 1 free digital for future

      Not only to introduce this at a lower price point, but generally speaking, this is how the majority of the working drummers set up their kits today. So to appeal to the current audience as well I would imagine.

  • @alvarohernandez2764

    I don't understand what the digital deal is. Are you saying that now the pads do the d/a conversion? The conversion has to be done at some point. Why does that matter? "it makes it feel better" ? That makes no sense to me, the material has the feel. What's wrong with the analog signal, if all it's doing is triggering? I'm also reffering to another video. They said it allows better resolution. There is no way a digital signal can have more resolution than a continuous analog signal. What is the "game changer" here to be charging almost $8,000?

    Why do the sounds samples forever suck on Roalnd kits.

  • @ashleycox432
    @ashleycox432 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Awesome demo. I still don't like the tom sound, and really don't think the stock kits are a true representation of what the module is capable of. I like the sound of the digital snare, though I wish the digital technology had been carried over to the rest of the pads, including the remaining cymbals. I'd also like to see 3-zone cymbals across the board because I'm in the minority who uses the bell of the crash when playing acoustic, and they're especially useful on an electronic for triggering samples. I also think it's time for some larger tom pads, namely 14 and 16" floor toms which of course the new digital technology would enable. As it is, although the update is decent I'm not sure as an existing TD-30KV owner that I could justify the price, which also seems to have gone up. That said, I'm extremely pleased to see the module still features a traditional control interface rather than a touchscreen as some modules now feature, and I love the multi-track functionality over USB and the fact that the direct outs are now balanced, removing the need for a DI box between the outputs and the desk. for me, were the above features to be added / altered and the stock sounds improved I think Roland would be well on their way to creating the perfect electronic kit.

    • @tcellen2136
      @tcellen2136 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are hundreds of sounds in there from Jarrah to maple, beech and even full stainless steel Bonham kit and you can load your own sounds and the editing capabilities are immense too...You could simply fit mesh heads and triggers to any size toms you like for a true custom sized kit too?

    • @ashleycox432
      @ashleycox432 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true, though in my experience the acoustic triggers I've tried aren't as good as the Roland pads. I just think for a professional kit at this price (almost 7 grand in the UK) a couple of larger tom pads as standard would be nice, and if you're going to make the snare digital why not make the rest of the pads digital too. I guess you could argue it's for cost reasons, but I can't imagine that the cost would be too much of an issue when produced in volume. I agree with you re the kits, they're certainly better than the TD-30. I guess whether you think they're as good as they could be is entirely down to personal taste.

    • @robertlucas9867
      @robertlucas9867 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with your statement. The toms still sound machine. Even on other videos I've watched that have balanced mids and lows they have a machine sound, very unnatural rolls. I'm disappointed with Roland. I still use a TD-20 because I can't justify paying more and getting so little in return. And for $4700 I should get real sizes, not small pads still. The 14" snare is a step in the right direction but a 18" ride only? And you pay extra if you want the 22" bass conversion kit. I don't think Roland is thinking this thru. I still don't like the break out cable on the TD -25. One cable goes bad and you have to replace the whole thing.

    • @carpii
      @carpii 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      if they moved everything to digital, theyd have to add so much more in the Td60 for anyone to consider upgrading. They do it on purpose so there is always an incentive to move from top model to next top model. Cant really blame them, these kits are pricey so relatively low volume sales

    I bought a roland td 25kv and I went from an acoustic to electric. When I had my Acoustic kit, I hat 2 hi hats (my main one, and a permanently closed one that i could play while rocking the double bass) So i bought a second hi hat for my roland kit, but I cant have the second hit hat closed pertinently. It mimics the main hi hat. Can I have a second closed hi hat with the roland 30 and or the roland 50? or do you know if i can use the TM-2 to fix my problem? If you know please respond. Thanks

      Deez Nuts dude, I have td25
      it's very limited(just 1aux and one cimbal output extra) but not so cheap.
      My advice would be to get a cheap module like "ion pro session drums"and connect it and td25 to an interface. That way you can add even more sounds.

    • @internettoughguy
      @internettoughguy 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Deez Nuts I have an old TD20 with 4 aux inputs. I was able to add a 2nd hi-hat and have it closed all the time. I did a reset on the module a few months ago and now I can't get the 2nd hi-hat to stay close. Every time I open the main hi-hat the 2nd one also opens. I'm stumped. I can't remember what I did the first time to keep it closed.

      just cosmetic i think, gives it a bit more credibility on a live stage. For home users though, its a bit pointless. I might just upgrade my TD30 module and the two digital pads, and keep current kick

    • @stuartholden6163
      @stuartholden6163 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It seems pointless to me; even in a live setting. Other than the fact that the size isn't adding to the sound (or it shouldn't), you have to lug around this huge electronic drum. Hell, if I'm going to do that, I may as well as get a regular acoustic kit. I like the upgrades on the module, but I think I'll stick with the TD30 pads.

    Disgusted!!.. Roland should be embarrassed and Ashamed!! "REALLY" $7,500??? There is absolutely NO-REASON this new td50 should be anything near $7,500 dollars!!.. The only thing on this kit that's expensive is the Module! the Shells and chrome rack are cheap to manufacture and buy as a consumer!.. So why the $7,500 price tag?? Question? Why is your td30 $5,000? why is your td25 $2,500?? Your kits are ALL WAY OVER PRICED BY THOUSANDS!!!.. It's Complete Bullshit! Anyone can turn a acustic kit into electric and it would look awesome even better than your new flagship for thousands less!!.. It's extremely upsetting that people on here are like "OH WoW Awesome I love Roland" Really drummers? ? Come on if we all tell them their prices are inconceivable they would drop their prices!

      HAHA. You're down-selling Roland for Alesis? Roland does have some overpriced products, but they are great nonetheless. I bought a TD30k last year from my local Mom & Pop music store, and it didn't cost "anywhere near" $5000, BRAND NEW. Amazing kit. It also CAME WITH a quite decent PDP502 dual-chain drive double bass pedal, a HH stand, and throne. All matching, and all brand new. Typically, they are not advertised to include them, but they were included with (my) purchase. And again, at nowhere near $5000. HINT: CASH is King!
      As far as getting an acoustic kit and retrofit it into an electric one....it will be no less costly if you want a DECENT kit + rack, hardware, and the retrofit... including a good module. Just my opinion though.

    • @bobbydtv1
      @bobbydtv1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      first of all roland could care less what you think or anyone else for that matter ,the damn price is not going down .I have the td 30 and love it most people bad mouth it because they never had one and leaned to create custom kits on it .These kits record like a freaking dream i been recording with them for 15 years now.I took a chance on the td 50 and was very pissed at the lack of kits and everything else on it so i sent it back .I will stick with the td 30 and continue to midi addictive drums which sounds dope .Point blank its supply in demand ,roland knows this and so do the consumers eating it all up .IT is pathetic that the actual parts and kit probably cost less than a couple hundred dollars and fetches insane prices for sure , its always killed me ,but its better than blowing money on crack , prostitutes or liquior or gambling plus the knowledge i have gained as well as my drumming improving even after 40 years outweighs the greedy price .What it comes down to is how much is expanding your drumming and mind really worth .

      Bob D - Hi there fellow drummer buddy. Yes I do agree with you about the td30 module it is Pretty good drum kits, sound effects, etc.. But seriously You cannot disagree that "Anyone" Can actually buy a cheap electric kit like a Simmons SD1500 for just $699. have 2 - crash cymbals, 1-ride, 4-toms, Hi-Hat, Bass drum, Snare, huge rack and hook up their laptop they already own and download Superior Drummer, Toontracks software for just another $150. Bucks and their cheap kit for under $900. Bucks will play and sound "BETTER" Than a $5,000. Roland Td30 or a Roland TD50 for paying $7,500.!!.. This is a FACT that I need to educate all drummers! I know because I bought it! I have had my huge Simmons kit from Guitar Center 1500 for almost two years! I've had to replace a cymbal pad once, for $99. Bucks but that's it! When I play I have multiple kits off my laptop that seriously sound 10 times better and more punch and more realistic than "ANY ROLAND MODULE SOUNDS! It records puurrffectt just like you've stated and sounds awesome! I can have that HUGE LIVE CONCERT SOUNDING KIT - Or that awesome Led Zeppelin kit, or old school 80's pop kits and effects anything that Roland module can do - I can download it from my laptop and I have the awesome sounds! I've been seriously trying to inform ALL DRUMMERS - There's absolutely no reason EVER - To go broke or remortgage your house just to buy a good electric drum kit that sounds awesome! Anyone can do it just buying a cheap electric kit period! Now I understand you love your td30 and that's fine, but the truth is unfortunately you never needed to let go of all that money you spent just to get all the awesome sounds that you received with the td30.. You could have saved $3,000. dollars and could have bought another car, refurnished your home, saved it for a rainy day when you really needed that extra money, etc... Lol hahaha 😁 Well you see where I'm getting at I hope.. But anywho I've been a drummer for several bands since I was 15yrs old..I'm now 45yrs old and playing with a Def Leppard tribute band. Now I have to admit I did also buy a Roland Td 25kv and unfortunately spent the $2,500. on it several years ago and I really wished I didn't, because my Cheap Simmons kit is just as good when plugged into my laptop. This is a lesson I've Learned the hard way unfortunately - But seriously I truly can play better and more open on my Cheap Simmons than I can on my expensive td25kv because the td25kv I feel cramped - It's small, and when I play I feel restricted and cramped.. Anyways I ended up selling my Roland for $2,000. and still play on my cheap Simmons 1500 it's never let me down. This should prove to all drummers Don't believe all the comments - People always say - Don't buy Alesis or Simmons only buy Roland because everyone else stuff breaks like their cymbals etc, they stop working etc... Well this is all bullshit! People also say, well Roland is so expensive because they're high quality and you get what you pay for etc..etc..Again this is bullshit! My brand new Roland Td 25kv crash cymbal stopped working on the 5th month of playing it, broke I had to hook up one of my Simmons crash cymbals and it worked perfectly!.. Remember my Simmons crash cymbal failed after a year and a half (Not 5 months ) I've played my Simmons kit everyday for couple of years without anything going wrong - On Stage hundreds of Gigs with my laptop hooked up with No issues EVER! All my recordings in the studio "Perfect " No issues! I just want to get the message out there so other drummers don't go broke just to get a Roland! Seriously you can save all that money for something else! I've even bought a Brand new Pearl Soundcheck Acustic 5-Piece kit for $399. Then bought mesh heads for $100. Triggers for all together for under $150. added my electric cymbals from my Simmons and plugged them into Simmons brain, run my laptop with Toontracks, Superior Drummer etc software and Now have an awesome looking Acustic kit ( But it's all Electronic) For under $900 bucks! So people PLEASE READ WHAT I'M TELLING YOU! You can even make your own hybrid kit and it will look awesome and sound just as awesome as any Expensive Roland for under $1,000 bucks! But if you don't already have a Module - That will be the only extra costs you will need to spend.. But again No - Need to buy an expensive module..Just buy a cheap one because you're not going to use the sounds off it "EVER!" Always use software off your laptop and trust me - "Not only will you have a Awesome looking Acustic looking kit" But it will be actually ELECTRONIC and it will sound better and look better than any Roland kits "EVER" .. Shoot I play nothing but Heavy Metal - Motely Crew, Metallica, Def Leppard, Van Halen, Prince, Billy Idol, Corn, etc.. Double bass is my thing.. And I play live all the time. .My cheap Electric kits set up has never failed me... So please everyone needs to stop buying Roland.. Way too expensive for absolutely NO-REASON!

      your are up on your stuff alright, i been playing 45 years now my self and in my 50s got my first electric syndrum from my friend Jon the drummer in Phish back in 1980 and been hooked on e kits since then . I have a hybrid kit as you mentioned with mesh heads and triggers which i use live with my james taylor cover band .I use the the td 30 module to power it because using software is a pain in the balls to use live and can crash on you in any given moment using a computer .Your cause is noble and i agree 100% and done some videos on this matter as well .Worst part about roland even though i love my kit is the stuff is made and shipped from China , and guess what ? those folks love sticking it to America and the rest of the world and its only going to get worse with the prices because they pretty much dictate the e drum market prices they also are not really liking America at this moment as you probably are aware .So i might even stock UP ON 1 MORE Roland drum module to carry me into my golden years of drumming , cheers mate and well said too because us e drum consumers have been getting screwed for years BUT we all have freedom of choice to not buy gear.

    I'm sad to hear the toms sound like a machine when played faster and even the snare on certain settings sounded like a step back to machine rolls.
    Roland gets a C rating from me. Still too digital and costly.
    The parameters for cymbal thickness has me scratching my head. Thinner cymbals tend to sound warmer and crisp but when she changed the setting to thin, it sounded pingy like a metal ride and when she made it thicker, it sounded like my old K dry ride that was thin and warm sounding.

    Unlike most product demo videos, this guy can both explain it really well and very clearly in a professorly way, and then the payoff, man can he play. This is my dream kit, or the concept of it anyhow. But as I understand, only the ride and snare are digital. No hat? And also, that old timey screen. My main thing is guitar and I've been playing the Line6 Helix for about a year. Now that, is an interface. Every music mfg can take a cue from it. Re the Strike Pro that's referenced below. Had mine on order for four months, got it, and returned it after two weeks. So many problems. Not one for folksy analogies, but can't help this one, "All hat no cattle."

      machine gunning will always be an effect in EDRUMMING. only way to solve it is to have more than a few layers on your pad , say 10 or so for Tom's , 15 for snar3s, and cymbals 8 or 10. this only supports single wav. layers , which is a pity

    • @neuron05
      @neuron05 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      What are you talking about, the machine gunning is clearly there. Superior Drummer beats the crap out of this.

    • @SeanGordonAllN1
      @SeanGordonAllN1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually you can layer 2 sounds per zone of your own samples on the TD50

    • @SeanGordonAllN1
      @SeanGordonAllN1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also, the SuperNATURAL engine plays a different stock sample for the velocity that is played. So technically with Roland sounds, they are 127 samples each even on the TD30.
      You cant go off of Demos done with crappy sound setups. With Layering your own drums sounds now with Rolands and all the settings there is no way you cant create a real sounding kit with a little time spent on fine tuning. Besides, there are so many records coming out now that take real drums and do their best to make them sound futuristic. Best use of this Sound Module is to fully trigger a real kit and layer the hell out of it with RT triggers.

    • @SeanGordonAllN1
      @SeanGordonAllN1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on the Sounds and the settings. Spend time with the unit or even the TD30 and really tweak a kit and I will have to disagree. People on most all of the Demos are just throwing up some preset kits, no Personal Layered samples which you can have 2 per zone now. The snare is digital and super responsive now, plus we all need to embrace this new era for it to keep getting better. People spend to much time trying to compare it to an Acoustic Kit when it's something entirely different. You use the right tool for the right job. Do you never eat any more Ice Cream just because there are other flavors you may not like?

    I don't understand what the digital deal is. Are you saying that now the pads do the d/a conversion? The conversion has to be done at some point. Why does that matter? "it makes it feel better" ? That makes no sense to me, the material has the feel. What's wrong with the analog signal, if all it's doing is triggering? I'm also reffering to another video. They said it allows better resolution. There is no way a digital signal can have more resolution than a continuous analog signal. What is the "game changer" here to be charging almost $8,000?
