Dave, your third question to the customer is very pertinent. Having another vehicle in the household that’s gas powered creates a hybrid situation. Gas for long distances and EV for short hauls. I like your balanced approach to salesmanship.
If I drove 14,000 miles in 3 years, I’d be in a 2005 accord, mid 2000s mdx, trailblazer.

I drove 400 miles and didn’t pass one charger. If you stay near home they are fine, but not if you are always traveling.
@@user-tb7rn1il3q chargers aren't always easy to see. I don't think there are many stretches of road that a bolt couldn't get from one charger to another.
My wife and I own an EUV, a 2019 Bolt and an ice Equinox.

Unfortunately many salesman cannot and do not do this, but then Dave has been in this business for a long time unlike many car sales people.
I’m a big petrolhead…but I had an electric car in Houston as a rental. And if my climate at home in Canada was better…I’d have an electric car immediately. No oil changes or dealing with the fluctuations in gas prices we have in Alberta where I live. Heck they drill/dig oil out of the ground here and gas prices are ridiculous. I’m done supporting these oil companies, ripping us off all the time.

Unfortunately many customers have a negative opinion about EVs to start with. For this customer you plug it in at the end of the day and the next morning you are good to go.

If you're leasing both vehicles in a household you have a "range anxiety" situation to begin with, only it's the total miles allowed under the lease looming over things.

Gas for me .. I can fill it up in 2 mins vs the problems with dealing with charging stations and waiting and waiting... I 'm a high mileage driver. The infrasture in the US is not there yet and the prices of EV are still too high .. not to mention the repair costs, batteries, insurance increase - heavy cars , more wear on tires etc.
EVs are a less attractive option for high mileage drivers with only a single car.
This is very similar to our situation. We have a 2017 Volt and a 2019 Bolt. Each one gets driven about 6k miles a year. We are currently exploring options if we decide to replace our Volt. No consideration of ever buying a full ICE vehicle.
2023 Bolt EUV here and love it. I say Blazer EV. I’m never going back to a gas vehicle. Love your videos but want to know what she decided. You’re keeping us hanging here haha.

Another question though. You said she only had 15,000 miles on her current traverse. What is the right move there? Buy it out and trade it for the equity? Or lease another one? Lots of good questions there that could be addressed!
I love how you suggest the ev, then just ask why she says no for clarification, but then you don't push. Sure seems like the ev would make sense for her. You would be such a pleasure to work with when buying a car! Love your vids. 👏👏
Sales people like Dave are scarce and hard to find.
My personal cut off on a car payment is 500 a month. And I never put anything down. Currently, my grand Cherokee L lease is just for 449/month. So your EV lease deal is tailor-made for me. Perfect.

I am always surprised that buying our your current lease vehicle is never an option for a lot of people. I would hate to be in a never ending lease payment cycle. To answer the question between the two, given her situation and use case, the EV does seem to be a better choice.
I leased a Bolt for three years and had Volts for the six years prior to that. I had a level II charger installed in my garage soon after getting my first Volt. My local utility subsidized the installation so it was only a few hundred bucks out of pocket. I currently lease a 2023 Blazer ICE but may go back to an EV when my lease is up in February. I am looking at a Blazer EV, Equinox EV, Tesla Model 3 or Y depending on what lease deals are available then. I want to pay less than five hundred per month.
My wife says the blazer EV for sure. I'm not sure I heard you say what milage was part of the lease deal. If a customer says say 6000 mi per year for lease rather than 12000 that keeps the price down right? Funny thing, we are selling our 2nd car soon and were thinking of looking for a used Bolt for around town. gas SUV for travel. And 110 in the garage will work without having to update the electric panel for a 220 line. Thanks

The typical mileage lease is 12,000 miles per year. That value can be adjusted up or down which will change the cost.
You don't put money down on a lease because the lease company has GAP insurance built into it. So if you wreck that car or SUV you aren't out your 3k or 4k you put down.
Has your customer considered buying out her current lease?

Why only a 2 year lease on the EV? Is there an option for a longer lease and how would that affect the payment?
2 year is cheaper on evs because the depreciation is less
for example my 3 year lease ioniq 5 is 399 0 down and 2 year is like 270 0 down lol.
The 24 month had the lowest payment due to all the rebate money up front.
My question would be what all impacts the cold weather would have on them when our temps often linter -20F in northern IL.
50% range decline or less. Dave has stated 50 miles only. There could be an issue with charging in the extreme cold but this customer's garage should mitigate that.
Hi Dave great video. Blazer all day. Based on my driving I'd have to get a level 2 charger installed at home. Not sure of the cost to do that. Great work Dave. Love that new traverse.
After tax credits the level 2 should be about a few hundred dollars. Remember no charges for gasoline.
My first electric car the car I bought last November. A new Bolt EV. It didn't have anything to do with politics or the environment. Mainly it was the low regular maintenance costs, never having to go to a gas station regularly and especially being able to "gas up" in my garage. EVs aren't for everyone but as for me, I'll never buy a gas car again with one exception. I love American V8 muscle cars. I've owned a few in the past. I plan on getting another one sometime in the future, but I'm in no hurry. Gr8 vid as usual. 🚙🇺🇸🔌⚡
There is a 3rd option in the market which is a hybrid that Honda & Toyota are pushing. A gas engine is supplied to alleviate range anxiety.

Then her buyout of her current SUV should be lower than what the KBB value is of it. So, she should have equity in that SUV.

Great explanation of the two car choices. Hands down - for her life situation go EV. We have an EV with 275 range which gets us from North Jersey to Philly round trip for family visits (230 miles). Our situation clicked off all your boxes. We have a home, garage, and gas car for those long road trips. We also installed a Level 2 Charger and only use after 9PM or on weekends maybe once a week. Her home plug would be OK. But level 2 quicker. PSEG gives discounts for after hour use charge. Also, she should know that NJ Energy Up will send you a check up to $250 for a level 2 charger on their lists of approved chargers, and PSEG will credit or send you a check for Level 2 installation up to $1500. The gas car, which we had since Oct 2023 has 2000 miles on it. We hardly use and I just spent $52 dollars putting gas into it. Last fill was in April. I just hate filling it up. The EV is also much more fun to drive. Last note, we never use public charging because of their limited availability and usual wait time to access. Bottom line, go with EV if you home charger and have a gas car.

Blazer. But I’d also look at buying a cheap used quality vehicle in their situation with the low miles they use the 2nd car for. Not my money but what I would do.
Who’s paying for the electric hookup at her home? Is that a added cost?
the homeowner. All you really need is the outlet. The vehicle comes with both 110 and 220 hookups

How about something discussing at home charger options for Chevy EV’s? I am really close to pulling trigger on a Blazer RS EV, but wondering about home charging options and how it may work.
The level 2😂 home chargers are so easy to have installed. The chargers themselves cost around $400-500 plus around $450 to have an electrician install it. And most states have rebates when you install a home charger. You’ll never visit a gas station again!
Chevy and Qmerit installed level 2 charging in my garage when I bought my 2023 Bolt last year. My charger was $295 and came with my car. So easy charging at home.
My 2024 ev blazer came with the ultium charger, has level 1 &2 capabilities you just swap out the plug depending on which level your doing, just be forwarned level 1 is extremely slow!! If you drive 20 miles a day it can work, if you run your ev down to 20% it will take days to get it back to 80%. I have both a level 1 & 2 in my garage as my gf has an ev too, we just share the chargers as needed.
I would take the Blazer EV no question.

Easy math go with the EV, plus with some charge stations and manufactures are offering free charging up to 2 years.
Hi Dave. Schumacher’s website offers a calculator that estimates payments, which is nice because a lot of sites don’t offer that or it requires a log in and then leads to lenders’ offers. How accurate would you say that calculator is? I’m seeing very favorable lease numbers. Thanks.
I would either but out the lease or take the gas trailblazer infrastructure is not there yet, and my family is happy with our gas vehicles. I’m interested in the new 2025 gas equinox
It is not a no brainer, but almost is. I saw the same car from a local northern ca. dealer with same deals, plus a costco $1000 rebate. Dave, you seem a fair guy, you should whisper in your customers ear that like a regular car car leases are negotiable? The end of lease buy out on this car is almost $40000, no way that car will be worth that😊
Automakers are beginning to rewrite the rules on leasing EVs. They are looking at the bigger picture and realizing EVs really will have a longer lifespan with less money to recondition for the next person. They actually want them back. 2nd and 3rd hand leases are out there, but will be come more normal in short order. I hope the unions are watching, this is not good news for them.
@@spazzman90 Manufacturing labor is 30% less with EVs. Fewer parts (like no expensive catalytic converters) are needed for EVs. Thieves are likely to be hurting with EV sales.
Dave I see the Malibu in the show room the gray one I heard they are going to be discontinued soon I take it my grandma got one like that.
Something tells me that if she chooses the EV, and puts a L2 charger in her garage, this car will come off lease with way more than 14k miles on it. EVs have a way of doing that to you.

This is really the dilemma I am going through for my wife’s next car, she drives about 20miles round trip for work. We have a the family Tahoe for trips and times when a bigger vehicle is needed. I am starting to really lean the EV way for her, if GM can get the ICE and EV around the same price, I think you will see a huge switch, but take the equinox there is about a 8k difference in starting price from the ICE to EV and it only gets wider as you get into the higher trims.
The EV may have a tax credit of USD 7500.00 which care vary by state.
@@deepthinker999 yeah the dealership have that factored in. I talking MSRP pricing. The 7.5k discount should bring the car to be at least that much cheaper than an ICE counter part. You do that an EVs fly of the lots.

Blazer EV hands down! And yeah, a lot of people, myself and my wife included, drive electric not because of politics, or the climate, but because the cost to drive is so favorable, and because the driving experience and features you get for the money are so much better than the alternative.

If you are someone who plans to keep your car 20+ years, an EV is a hard pill to swallow. The lifespan of an EV is pretty much the length of the manufacturer warranty.

The Blazer would be great if she does not plan on doing road trips. The non-Tesla charging network is a hot mess. Electrify America is the only reliable charging network sort from Tesla. I just purchased a 2024 Nissan Ariya EV for $199/mo with $0 down for 24 months. We charge at home.

My Bolt is $1,600 per year here in NJ... pretty much the same as my Jeep Wrangler when I had it.
If I were the woman I would have to really seriously consider the EV. In my own situation where I am retired, no longer drive long distances and can easily charge the EV I think that I would go for it. If I hated it, in 24 months I could do something different. Here in Wisconsin electric utility rates are much cheaper during off peak hours. My former employer has a plug in Hybrid RAV4 and an EV Lexus. He also has access to other gasoline vehicles so he loves it. I don’t foresee my situation changing anytime so Iif I were the lady I would give it a shot.
If Isestill lived in the house we rented for 4 years, I’d get the EV and if the lease company allowed the negative equity I have, then I’d take it too so I can just undo all that damage from other dealers marking up when they said they didn’t.

That is a 3rd option to crunch the numbers on. Pricing for all three options can be presented. However the Traverse is now out of warranty and charges for wear items like tires and brakes will apply.
Some people trade every 3 or 4 years and have no interest in driving older and out of warranty cars.
If you can’t or don’t want to spend that much on vehicle(s) totally makes sense.
To these customers what they are doing makes sense for them.
You should also add that short trips and low mileage will damage a fuel powered car these days. Only driving a few hundred miles per month will cause severe engine damage before the lease is up.
She should buy out her lease, with 14,000 miles the car she has should still be like new!
Big money Maker for the dealership if she decides to get rid of it!
Is she aware she can buy the car she has now when the lease ends. That's exactly what I would do!
Frankly I think the best decision would be to buy out the leased Traverse. Unless there is some issue with the vehicle thats not stated in the video I feel thats the wisest financial decision. But if I had to choose between these two vehicles I'd spend the few extra bucks and go with the ICE. Mainly because I'd at least want to have an option to once again buy out the lease. The jury is still out and will be for some time for EVs. Even Mary Barra admitted mass adoption of these vehicles will take decades.
If she uses the car to work 2 miles a day, why we should top off the car with gas every 3-4 days as you say? 400 miles a month usage sounds like 2 fill-ups a month
Well it is safe to assume she drives more than two miles.. grocery store, kids to school, gym, etc..
My biggest problem with EV’s is the infrastructure. The government passed an expensive bill to build the charging stations and in the 3 years since that bill -assed they’ve only built 7 or 8 charging stations. My wife and I have a 4 year old Jeep Cherokee with 11,ooo miles. An EV would probably work for us but would never consider it because of the infrastructure, insurance cost and the cost of the battery when needed to replace. Take into consideration that the energy used to charge the battery is from coal and other fossil fuels it just doesn’t make sense. I know it’s just my opinion but that’s how I feel. Have a good day.
Your battery should be under warranty if needs replaced.
If she leases, it will need a set of tires in 2 years (proven fact on EV's), and she will either have to put them on herself or pay GM to do it. Either way likely $800-1000, which equates to $41-83 per month for those 24 months. Wear items are not included in lease agreements. An ICE vehicle would likely not need a set of tires at 24K miles. From a Google search: "According to companies such as Michelin, tires on electric vehicles wear out up to 20% faster than on internal combustion vehicles."
you don't need to change your tire in 2 years unless you went over like 40k-50k miles. She said she's only doing 2 miles a day so most likely won't need to change tires at all
I drove my last EV to 46k miles and never put tires on it. My current EV has 24k miles and tire are still plenty good
Not true Pat. Our 19 Volt is still on the original tires after 5 years and 48,000 miles. We have about a year left on them before we need to replace at 3/32. Our Bolt EUV is two years old with 24,000 miles. The tires have barely any wear at all on them.

I'd Lease a Honda Passport (made in America) with the 280HP V6/ 9 speed AT over a Trailblazer (s Korea) or Blazer EV/Honda prologue EV ( hecho en Mexico). They are also $400 a month. But if ya want an EV it does seem like leasing is the way to go (model 3).

If I need a commuter car then the ev would be great,but if she needs a car to travel then the trailblazer. I like ev,but the infrastructure is not ready yet, so I bought a 2018 Chevy Volt, it has the best of both worlds. I have 51 ev miles and I can use gas when I want to.
In this client's situation they will most likely never need charging infrastructure. They'll just plug in at home.
Unless you actually drove an EV more than 150 miles, you can't say anything about the infrastructure. Sounds like you don't even own and EV. Drove VA to FL in an EV. No issues. VA to PA many times. No issues. VA to beaches. No issue. Going to do VA to WI this fall. I have 0 worries. Will do VA to FL again soon. I have 0 worries.

No one seems to mention the money to be saved by not having to buy gas. That savings should be easy to calculate.
What have you heard about insurance rates on ev's vs ice vehicles? Went to look at one last year and was ready to pull the trigger but premium would have been 3x what I was paying.
This is something that doesn't get brought up enough. People love to tout the "not paying for gas" angle, but everything I've heard is EV insurance is way more than ICE
Because of the battery EVs are totaled at a lower price point than gas. It is wise to get a new insurance quote before buying an EV or actually any car. Insurance rates seem to go up anytime you buy a new car.
My insurance didn't really change much when I went from a 2017 Cruze Premier to a 19 Volt Premier. Our Bolt EUV is also about the same. I pay $1,000 every 6 months for the two vehicles with maxed out coverages in Michigan, which has some of the highest insurance rates in the country.
This is a no-brainer to me. Blazer EV all the way. MUCH better vehicle compared to the Trailblazer and not only that, it'll be much cheaper to drive too.
Buy a sub 10k used (not domestic LOL), wait for the car market to complete crashing.
The car market has been "crashing" for years... Covid, chip shortage, low inventory, prices over MSRP, repos, high interest rates, too much inventory, etc etc etc

Lol that’s my friend. Only leases and wants to pay no down payment. He has a 4-Runner now and is looking to go with terrain because no down payment. Even though he should buy that 4-Runner with only 30,000 miles, three years old, amend $31,000 residual. No, he wants that piece of junk Terrain 🤷♂️
