They had a job , family and friends to attend to. There was no 24/7 television. Media actually had to shut off (close) for the evening. Your phone was not a hand held entertainment device. Simpler times.
And it was a much safer and simpler time to live. I'd give up the cellphones and computers to live in the 70's again. Don't know about you but I had a blast.

The assumption there is that it was welcome. Richard Dawson always creeped me out kissing everyone, but apparently they asked each woman before the show and if they said no, he just glossed by the moment. Very few women said no. I never really noticed so much with Gene Rayburn. It would certainly go be nice to still live in a world where you could just read the moment and worry about being wrong if you actually were.
You have to realize abortion had become legal in Jan 1973 and the pill was already around since 1960. People were uninhibited it seemed after that. Legalizing abortion changed the world in America a lot IMO. This would not be on TV in 2021(with the innuendo and calling people Dumb Dora, etc. They would be called out on a lot of things here) with the world having gone PC for several years now! So things then changed again in SOME areas; not ALL.
Allen Ludden and Betty White were huge supporters of David Letterman when he first came to Los Angeles. Both were very kind. Great people, and terrific broadcasters.
