I do agree with that, but I think Bennett looks SMUG and SMARMY when he gets the answers right. Like he's so proud of himself like he just solved this grand scientific problem or whatever. Pride and self-satisfaction as he thinks he's "all that" for guessing.
+Irene Ryan Bennett usually smiles broadly at the end of a segment, whether he got it right, someone else got it right or the panel was stumped. The exception is when he feels that the challenger and John badly misled the panel. It happens during this episode's only non-celebrity challenger at 16:55. I thought that some of John's decisions as to when to give a yes, no or sometimes were somewhat off and misleading during this segment and Bennett seems to agree. About 10 seconds before the camera pans to him, he can be heard off-mic saying "Sleeping bag?" with a note of incredulity. At ~11:00 when Arlene is questioning the challenger, she asks if the product can be applied in any way. The challenger immediately says no. John overrules him and I think John was wrong there. If a million people familiar with sleeping bags were asked if they are applied to the person using them, I can't imagine any of them saying yes. Then Arlene asks if it has any moving parts. The challenger immediately says yes and John overrules again. Yet a zipper is certainly more of a moving part than a sleeping bag is applied to someone. It was not one of John's better sequences during his long and illustrious tenure on WML. It was almost like when a pitcher has two strikes on the batter and then throws one over the heart of the plate which the batter takes and the umpire calls it a ball. I’m 50. I grew up with plenty of ‘50’s and ‘60’s reruns but, sadly, not this show. So Garry’s wonderful YT channel has been a revelation for me. I never call in sick, but I did today, for a stupid, nasty, cold, and this was the first place I visited. I don’t think there has ever been a more charming person in front of a camera than Arlene Francis (perhaps Jackie Chan), but her intro here to Bennett is nothing short of poetic, and something only a parent could speak to! At 1:43.
I liked when Miss Americas were more naturally built. Today, one has to work out eight times a week to compete. A little softness never hurt one woman!
16:49 is hilarious!!! As soon as John announces what the line is, the camera pans through the panel, everybody seems surprised and interested and then there's Bennett just sitting there like a stunned mullet.
This is the second time in recent weeks (according to the rate at which these videos have been posted on this channel) that the panel got so caught up with the idea that a product comes in contact with the body above the waist, shoulders, neck, etc., that they completely forgot to ask whether it also comes in contact with the body *below* those areas! I think the previous product that caused this kind of trouble was a bridal gown. Of course, a whole lot more time had passed in the life of the panel than it has for us since we've seen that episode, but I would still think they might have remembered and learned from that mistake.
I think the panel sometimes comes in after a fine dinner with drinks and wine and their a little bloated. The bridal gown bit was hilarious. It was group hypnotism.
22:31 "I tell you, the world is changing so fast you can't be sure about anything." -Arlene Francis Well, yes, yes, indeed. How this applies to even more so today is really funny.

Yes. Unfortunately, she was right. The Bible was taken out of the public schools in 1962. Ever since then, this Country's society has kept getting more immoral and anti-Christian. Read Romans chapter 1 for a good example.
@@lynettepalecek3141 A secular society cannot be expected to embrace one religion over another in the public sphere. The Bible is to be taught in the home where it can be interpreted correctly.

Liberace appeared on What’s My Line many times. In every appearance he made, he seemed very happy. He never seemed frightened about the possibility that his private life might be exposed to the public. Homophobia in that era has been overrated.
My mother, born in 1914, won a penmanship award in school. She passed the flair and skill on to me; I'm also an artist and writer, and not only does the ability come in handy, but as time goes by, people frequently comment on my handwriting with a degree of amazement and admiration; it's a fading art.
I first learned cursive writing when I was in second grade; which was back in 1964-65. Nowadays, I don't they teach cursive writing in the schools any more. They still should teach it. Not all documents can be signed online.
Cynthia Lyman - you're absolutely right, when you say that people see it as faiding art, because it happens to me. I felt in love with penmanship when I was in second grade. I remember the teacher who took the time to passed down onto me the love of writing. She taught me how to hold a pen correctly, thanks to her and my dedication for learning paid off, now people asks me if I'm an artist, my mom is proud and brags about how beautiful my handwriting is to others. It's sad that like some rare artistry is becoming a depleted talent. I don't know if you know the history of penmanship it's very interesting. Take care!

Anyone here a fan of the many versions of "Password"? There was the following: 1961-1967 (CBS Daytime/Primetime) 1971-1975 (ABC Daytime; also known as "Password All-Stars" from 1974-1975) 1979-1982 (NBC Daytime; "Password Plus") 1984-1989 (NBC Daytime; "Super Password") 2008-2009 (CBS Primetime; "Million Dollar Password")
Chris Barat Classic! ***** I am most definitely a "Password" fan, and I think I've seen every incarnation of the show except "Million Dollar Password," which I don't think I'd even known about. "It isn't anything like a suicide pill or anything like that?" In the context of Dorothy's death two months later, that's an interesting question for her to have asked.
It's interesting that some say that Dorothy was so smart (on the show), but drinking and taking barbiturates together is not so smart. It is said that she died in bed.
5:08 - All but Dorothy were shocked at the 'no' answer, and probably thought 'well, this has nothing to do with Miss America'. Dorothy's lateral thinking skills saved the day :)

Dorothy asked if the female MG had been known for her impersonation of a (Zsa Zsa) Gabor. She was thinking of Sheila Mac Rae. Robert was also thinking of Sheila and her husband Gordon Mac Rae. 20:24
The appearance of Miss Amercia got John a little bit unconcentrated: "Well, actually, it'll be on Saturday, next... I mean... It'll be on Saturday, next CBS" :) 6:41
Paul Martin - how? She didn't committed suicide- she died of an accidental overdose of alcohol and barbiturates. I don't see how is that unnerving if there is no relation..
I thought the way the sleeping bag guy’s tone of voice and obvious joking enjoyment of Dorothy’s odd reactions was hilarious. He was so comfortable on TV. And Arlene’s mask was hideous 😫
Gary, yes! Mr. Bannister and his sense of humour, and that "basso" voice were hysterical! And Holy Moly! Arlene's mask was just, just.....😱. I think this was the funniest WML I've seen!
This word is use since the night of time . Ancient Greeks from 500 before Christ , complain that young peoples were so much different from their fathers the end of the times was to be soon: they didn't have good manners, they didn't believe in traditions, in religion etc...It is a classic: new generations are always despise by some older peoples.
And vice versa ... although there are many times when there is a stronger affinity between grandparents and grandchildren than between parents and children. Those who were young adults in the 1910's and Roaring Twenties often understood the young adults and teens in the 1960's better than those who were young adults in the days of the Great Depression and WWII.
@gcjerryusc Homophobia and bigotry is alive and well in 2020. Funny how such ignorance is most widely demonstrated by religious folk. They'll never get to heaven with that ugly hatred in their hearts!
A lot of off the cuff wit and intellect on the part of John and the panel. I am not a slouch, but it sometimes takes me a few moments to consider their line of thinking.

At 1:43.
I adore watching Betty White and her husband. They were so very much in love.
I was born in 1960 and we grew up watching Miss America pagents. We always picked our favorite and did guess correctly sometimes.
Betty just joined Allen in eternity today. RIP.
Vonda is 77 today. July 2020.
Still a beautiful woman.
I liked when Miss Americas were more naturally built. Today, one has to work out eight times a week to compete. A little softness never hurt one woman!
I'm a woman and I agree completely!
I agree. I believe humans value what is the hardest to achieve and quickest to lose.
@@KQwest98 Well said. And, thank you for your service. My dad had a Purple Heart fromWWII.
Enjoyed watching the sleeping bag guy! He was having a great time up there!
His reactions were by far the most entertaining part of that segment.
Vonda Kay was my favorite Miss America. For talent she did ventriloquism. She and her dummy sang Together Wherever We Go from Gypsy.
16:49 is hilarious!!! As soon as John announces what the line is, the camera pans through the panel, everybody seems surprised and interested and then there's Bennett just sitting there like a stunned mullet.
Ha! That's great-- thanks for pointing it out.
Such class which is unfortunately lacking in today's world
Every year it gets even cooler to realize that Betty White is still among us. Here she was 9 years away from her role as Sue Ann Nivens.
Imagne; THIRTY years from her role as Rose Nyland
Betty White...Thank you for being a friend. We miss you already. Mr. & Mrs. Ludden reunited forever. ❤❤❤
Betty White is a national treasure.
Miss America's gown was really something. I like how the ladies always check out the fashions as the women contestants walk away.
They say that George Hamilton was tanned but take a look at Robert Q. Lewis...
Sleeping bag man just loved bamboozling the panel!
Enjoyed seeing Betty White as a young woman, with her forever love Alan!
Back when men dressed handsomely and the women dressed radiantly and lady like.
...and women stifled their breathing with girdles and ruined their feet with high heels.
@@pamtebelman2321 but Big Boy Mike865ms doesn't care about that in his reminiscing, does he? Nah. He never had to wear any.
Vonda Kay Van Dyke was 22 here (b. May 19, 1943 in Muskegon, MI). Now 79 (Apr. 2023).
Thanks, Betty. We love you so much. Give Allen a hug for us.
Betty White and Allen Ludden were a great power couple. There will never be another couple like them ever again.
They were a legendary, golden couple. Their whole marriage was in honeymoon phase
22:31 "I tell you, the world is changing so fast you can't be sure about anything." -Arlene Francis
Well, yes, yes, indeed. How this applies to even more so today is really funny.
Except nothing has changed. Everything "different" was there, just well hidden, if not illegal in some locations. LOL
I have always loved Betty. I miss her already and will always miss her. God Bless her RIP Betty
Dorothy was SO smart. The remark about the suicide pill is eerie.
When Betty White was permanent panelist on The Liar's Club, the producers called her their secret weapon since she had such a great talent for telling the craziest lies with the straightest face.
We miss you, Betty, but you're back with Allen now.
Arlene had a prophetic utterance: "the world is changing so fast, you can't be sure of anything!"
@@pamtebelman2321 I disagree. The main society was extremely moral and decent when the Bible was taught in the public schools. It isn't that way anymore.
@@lynettepalecek3141 You mean back in the days when people of color were denied equal education, jobs and housing, and black men were hung from trees? Or the days when women couldn't vote or speak their minds or make decisions on their own? I'm so tired of hearing about the 'good old moral days of yesteryear,' from my fellow Christians, I can't even tell you!
@@pamtebelman2321 Well said. As someone born in the 90s, I really appreciate the elegance and civility of this show and am sad our society today doesn't exhibit such dignity and sophistication. However, I am happy that in the 21st century we in the developed world have equal rights based on race, religion, and sexuality for the most part. I don't think those two things need to be mutually exclusive either.
I've seen people at football games, when it is very cold, wrapped up in a sleeping bag.
The one episode where Dorothy "Out John Charles Daly'd" John Charles Daly.
Second game illustrates that things people get into horizontally are hugely funny on WML. As to John's definition of "wearing," well . . . it is not often that Daly gets hoisted on the petard of his own semantics.
I’m surprised that Ludden’s voice didn’t give it away right away. He’s on Password every day.
He raised his voice and barked his answers
Betty white had the best smile. Very pretty woman. She lover Alan very much. He was gone so young and she still missed him to her dieting day. They are together again and happy always
At about 22:30 Arlene refers to Allen and Betty as being married, but she says the world is changing so fast. It ain't changing that fast, but she could have no idea just how much it would change!
In areas of marriage, it would change in many ways - all for the worse.....
jmccracken1963 - you're absolutely right.
You most definitely lead an Unnatural life style. You continue to use that phrase, What are you trying to hide?
Liberace appeared on What’s My Line many times. In every appearance he made, he seemed very happy. He never seemed frightened about the possibility that his private life might be exposed to the public. Homophobia in that era has been overrated.
I love Arlene’s mask! 😊
Many people (often women) had the most beautiful penmanship in those days.
That is back when Penmanship was taught in school; so people were expected to have decent Penmanship.
My mother, born in 1914, won a penmanship award in school. She passed the flair and skill on to me; I'm also an artist and writer, and not only does the ability come in handy, but as time goes by, people frequently comment on my handwriting with a degree of amazement and admiration; it's a fading art.
And that's a shame.
Take care!
He stopped and he still said it! 6:41 Love it!!!!!

Poor Dorothy only had a couple of months to go😢🎩
Anyone here a fan of the many versions of "Password"? There was the following:
1961-1967 (CBS Daytime/Primetime)
1971-1975 (ABC Daytime; also known as "Password All-Stars" from 1974-1975)
1979-1982 (NBC Daytime; "Password Plus")
1984-1989 (NBC Daytime; "Super Password")
2008-2009 (CBS Primetime; "Million Dollar Password")
Aristophanes!
Ridiculous!
Funny... I hardly remember the original show but I do remember the ODD COUPLE episode featuring it.
Chris Barat
Classic!

I am most definitely a "Password" fan, and I think I've seen every incarnation of the show except "Million Dollar Password," which I don't think I'd even known about. I used to watch the original "Password" regularly as a child and watched "Password Plus" fairly often too. I was even a contestant on it once! (I only lasted 1 game -- or was it "match?" I forget what terminology they used.)
Yes! Particularly its original incarnation. I wish there were more episodes available online!
Elsie M. SaveThe TPC All the versions of "Password" are good, but the one I first really got into (keep in mind I was born in the late 1980's, and first got GSN in 1997) was the "Super" version. Bert Convy may not have been the greatest host ever, but he was lots of fun to be for the contestants and celebrities.
Sadly, he died young in his late 50's.

Just two months before Dorothy Kilgallen was murdered. She was such an amazing woman.
Please don't spread unsubstantiated conspiracy theories.
@@glennhoppe8715 nn&j*,m
She was murdered.
It’s naive to think she wasn’t murdered after reading evidence and listening to the findings.
Yes. She knew the Warren Report was a lie…for starters!
"It isn't anything like a suicide pill or anything like that?" In the context of Dorothy's death two months later, that's an interesting question for her to have asked.
The official cause of death was ruled an accident, however, not a suicide.
There have also been conspiracy theories saying that Dorothy was murdered.
I wish we knew the truth about Dorothy's death. RIP
I thought that too, especially since there was some thought that she killed herself. So sad, no matter what the cause of death.
It's interesting that some say that Dorothy was so smart (on the show), but drinking and taking barbiturates together is not so smart. It is said that she died in bed.
betty looks stunning.
Betty Was So Beautiful!!
5:08 - All but Dorothy were shocked at the 'no' answer, and probably thought 'well, this has nothing to do with Miss America'.
Dorothy's lateral thinking skills saved the day :)
Yes, but Bennett set it up for her by asking if the contestant was ever “Miss Something.” 😎
It is interesting to see Betty with her darker hair color. She was gorgeous and lovely
lol when that guy said he was following that miss America lady, the host straight clowned on him
Betty White was a real cutie.

Betty will be 99 soon!!!
Also, great to see one of my favorite Miss America winners!
10:00 - Considering how she died, not long after this, that quote from Dorothy was unnerving.
Paul Martin - how? She didn't committed suicide- she died of an accidental overdose of alcohol and barbiturates. I don't see how is that unnerving if there is no relation..
@@mayaa5048 She was murdered.
@@mayaa5048 Glad YOU think that's how she died!
Robert Q. Lewis ! 😋 i’m seeing everyone these two panel shows. his name in itself makes you smile. :)
mBoth Goodson-Todman productions. :) 🤓
Lovely to see a young Betty White. She still has that twinkle, though. 😊
22:30 "The world is changing so fast..."
Is it possible that your "lifestyle" is unnatural? I say very possible!!
@gcjerryusc Truth cannot be silenced! No matter how hard those who want to silence it try!
@gcjerryusc Homophobia and bigotry is alive and well in 2020. Funny how such ignorance is most widely demonstrated by religious folk. They'll never get to heaven with that ugly hatred in their hearts!
Hard to believe that Dorothy was dead 2 months later after this......Or murdered as some think...
Still dead either way.
The sleeping bag man seemed really into Dorothy :)
❤ Love Betty White & appreciate her love for pets & especially dogs. Her marriage & devotion to Alan was important.
Very prescient comment from Arlene at about 22:30.
+Save The TPC Very sadly so......
my draw dropped.
Does a sleeping bag have any moving parts? I'm sure Mr. Bannister was thinking of the zipper to close it. I think the zipper moves.
Yep, as I am watching this and that is the first thing I thought...he is thinking of the zipper!!
And John overruled Mr. Bannister. Maybe John wanted to win one for the zipper!
Joe Postove. wonderful Joe..
@@loissimmons6558 Good one, Lois! (better than many of Bennett's and on par with Steve Allen).
The sleeping-bag segment was extra entertaining.
A lot of off the cuff wit and intellect on the part of John and the panel. I am not a slouch, but it sometimes takes me a few moments to consider their line of thinking.
I've been binge-watching Password Plus over these last couple of months. I couldn't get enough of it (til they replaced Allen with Tom Kenedy :(. Now I only watch it if Betty White's on there)
What 20 seconds that happens at 22:15 is hilarious!

Dorothy Kilgallen’s reference to a suicide pill tells us nothing about her journalism career, her personal life or her death. This was a game show that was supposed to hold viewers’ attention for 27 minutes. It didn’t always do so successfully.
I have heard people say some episodes can be boring at times. Arlene, Bennett, Dorothy and John did their jobs the best they could.
