Russia has a lot more and if they could convince China to join in, then its real trouble for the west. If China stays out it probably plays best for them as they will be the only superpower left. The real mistake I think would be using tactical nukes. Everyone around the world will just think about nukes and support for Ukraine would skyrocket. @@grahamfisher5436 I can't find a definitive answer to that but my best guess is that we would try to intercept it and simultaneously launch a second strike on Russia. That would make sense, because if Russia has launched an ICBM at the UK, it has essentially committed itself to our destruction and the assumption must therefore be that it will remain so if its first strike is unsuccessful. The next question is obviously COULD we intercept the incoming missile. The best latest information on that will not be shared by the MOD but all I know at this point is that we have a multi-layered defence system consisting of Sky Sabre which can control 24 missiles simultaneously and Sea Viper although the later is dependent on the whereabouts of the Type 45 destroyers at the time. The third layer is NATO's missile defences stationed in Europe, eg the American Aegis in Poland & Romania, which are designed for defence of NATO territory (inclding UK) from ballistic missiles. The effectiveness of these systems against a missile RS-28 Sarmat is uncertain or unpublicised, as the principle of missile defence involves obstructing the path of an incoming missile which may be much faster (about Mach20) but less manouvreable. Missile defence is now a hot topic in the UK, with some arguing that to be most effective, a system would need to be focused on defending key sites rather than the entire country. I live in a remote rural area which may seem advantageous, but I've always believed the best place to be if a nuclear missile strikes, is right under it.

What else would we expect the Russians to do? Imagine if Russian troops were deployed to help the Argies take the Falklands? Or if they interfered to help one of the factions in Haiti seize power? Sending troops to fight alongside a country we aren't even allied with would be an act of war

@@coka7637 That's what's known as a proxy war. Russia can't do anything about Nato sending arms to the Ukrainian regime because the Russians sent arms to the Syrian and African dictators. When the Russians sent troops abroad, they never directly fought against Nato, only terrorist groups like Daesh or armies funded and equipped by the West. On the other hand, sending Nato troops to fight alongside the Ukrainians against the Russians would be the same as declaring war on Russia.
FYI - We are allied to Ukraine and unlike Russia we stick to our international agreements. Ukraine is not a member of NATO, but it is a NATO partner. It cannot invoke Article 5 however.
But Russia or should I say Putin made the same threats before the equipment was sent yet here we are. Putin knows that attempting to use nukes can put his reign in jeopardy
