    This is a great chemplayer video. It makes me miss them. They all had really good information some a little questionable on why but they did do alot of great work. Awesome to see!

    I saw a writeup with the same procedure for addition of the mixed acid, but they said to stirr under 50°C reflux for the last hour instead of room temperature. When I think about it, they used an hour instead of two for the mixed acid addition. I've actually seen a few different procedures, but this was the only one instructing to reflux at 50°C for the last hour of the synthesis.

    Do you add h2so4 to the reaction according to the 32% water ratio in hno3?

    So how would you carry out subsequent nitrations anyway? Once all the steps of mononitration are over, just nitrate it again?

    • @EnergeticMaterialsLabs
      @EnergeticMaterialsLabs  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, you've to do nitration again with conc. nitric acid & sulphuric acid.

    These values are not the same as in the formula, why did you make the values different? The mole ratios for mono nitro toluene should have been 1.1:1

      To answer the question the colors are undoubtedly polar substitution and oxidation byproducts resulting from ring sulfonation and oxidation of the methyl group

    its just a Nitration correct?

  • @sutrathakuri1924
    @sutrathakuri1924 ปีที่แล้ว

    It is wrong. You have to add nitric acid on sulphuric acid not sulphuric on nitric acid.

    • @EnergeticMaterialsLabs
      @EnergeticMaterialsLabs  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      No, it's not wrong!
      always concentrated acid is added to dilute one, not vice-versa!
      Here, sulphuric acid is 98% conc. and Nitric acid is 70-72%.
      Hope you understand.
