For those who care the whole lecture was ad libbed. Jon Hughes asked Stein to speak about something he knew a lot about and thats how he picked this topic. IIRC the bored looks weren't really acting. :)

I had a teacher one time, teaching us a gun course over the period of 4 nights... and actuallty Stein reminds me a lot of him. Everyone in the room was yawning and he had the most monotone voice you’d ever heard, with barely any facial expression ever, and he stood still in one spot. If it was anything other than a gun course or something I knew a lot about I would have failed his class without a doubt. Lol

As a teacher, it always a bad sign if this scene and his voice pop into my head while I am teaching. This scene is why I rarely ask students to answer random questions during a lesson. I always hated the dead air and waste of time of it when I was a student. Nonetheless, when I start to bore myself while teaching, my recollection of this scene snaps me out of it and I change tack - try other things. But unlike these students, my students are pretty amazing. So I am lucky they are there. Young adults these days are pretty exceptional due to what they went through in the pandemic. I wish other adults knew just how incredible they are. They deserve better that the future world they are being left to sort out.

I'd say that's some pretty good advice for someone like myself who wants to be an English teacher in the future. Currently in college trying to get my bachelors, and I know I'm not the best at public speaking. But the last thing I want is to make the subject dull to learn for a class. Can't teach a class that's uninterested. Still got a long way to go and a lot to learn, but it's all about the journey! Teaching is hard business, and I respect you for your dedication.

0:30 I caption phonecalls in real time for elderly hard-of-hearing and sometimes teen-age grandchildren forget to turn off grandma's phone caption screen before chatting with their peers. Try dictating/typing in real time for 45 minutes and keeping up with this girl's conversation with her girlfriend about her latest date/breakup and provide for her friend an accurate what-you-hear-is-what-you-get caption screen display experience even though her friend you're captioning for has no clue grandma's caption screen is on and isn't reading your captions at all. On the flip side, we just found out our company is going to start captioning college lectures. I can't imagine transcribing a 2-hour economics, chemistry or calculus lecture like this with arcane formulas, names and symbols and maintain intelligible formatting on the caption screen. Either way, fun times.

Is it just me that my class is more boring than this class. At least students talk and eat bubble gum or sleep and whatever but my teacher talks in a monotoned voice doesn't even want a student to interrupt him or sleep but I draw in class so that's no big deal lol and he gives us like 6 worksheets everyday but I don't do it

There's a scene with an English teacher in the movie as well. Not as funny as this one but still good.
