It was an ongoing problem that someone yawned loudly in that class. Yeah, he could’ve approached the situation better but he was disrespected every time he heard that when he was teaching, so I get why it happened.

During my high school years, we had a teacher like this. She always got super annoyed when someone yawned. Needless to say, i was always feeling on the edge during her lectures
yeah, sleeping in class almost happened to me. I even had a sort of dream where the teacher was talking about some weird things. Then the teacher woke me up and told me its normal and happens to him also sometimes. Looks like they understand sleep deprivation and the fact that since I'm a foreigner studying in Germany, the teacher talks in German all the time, and this can cause me to lose my attention. Still, I'm glad that teachers here are more understanding. If I slept in this college room, I would likely become dead meat.

It wasn’t just a yawn, it was a loud and exaggerated yawn. It’s basically the equivalent of saying “Boring!” in the middle of a lecture. The professor may have overreacted, but the yawning student isn’t any better than he is.

This actually was one of the first real videos I saw of a college professor, and things like this genuinely scared me for college. Got through my first semester and my professor were the people I would genuinely converse with and treated you with respect instead of blowing up on everyone as soon as something mildly inconvenienced them, wow 💀

As I’ve said, it is incredibly common to be nervous in your first classes when everything is hyped up to be this insurmountable amount of work with prevalent themes of isolation and hopelessness. That being said this would be a perfect example of how anxiety works as a concept, as I wholeheartedly believe that this is completely normal. I’d like to acknowledge that, of course, the dude who yawned is weird asl for doing that. But reacting like that and throwing a tantrum during a lecture and trying to size himself up showed a real level of insecurity in the professor that is kind of an irredeemable quality for someone who has to be such a powerful public speaker to standout from the general population.

Phyonic Imagine, being a sleep deprived college professor, with hours upon hours of work outside of lecturing, and spend hours preparing for each class, only to be interrupted by a rude entitled ass hole, over and over again, when there are people actually taking their education seriously and not just having their tuition covered by mommy and daddy... I have always appreciated when professors call out disruptive people. It is a lot of money to attend those classes and I don’t want my time wasted. When people disrupt, they are basically robbing from the other students paying for that time/seat.
a yawn won’t distract 200 students unless a teacher wastes 2 more minutes talking about it

That’s exactly how my teacher sounded like. That’s why I didn’t like him. Yes some of the kids were rlly rude and they were the type of kids that picked fights with teachers but some kids were super nice but he would blow things way out of proportion and rant about them at least a few times a week. Like once every two weeks maybe he would talk about how we didn’t understand that it was rlly tiring for him to repeat the same thing over and over again to his many classes. And I must admit that I haven’t thought of it that way and that it must be rlly tiring for teachers but every other teacher goes through it and they don’t mention it even once. And the way he talked was like this guy too he would be like “ I need be respected and I’m a very fair and easygoing person. If you respect me and then I’ll be nice to you but if you disrespect me, etc...” and I get that teachers need to say that to students sometimes but this teacher said it WAY too often and he was VERY strict like we would all be talking at a normal voice level and he’ll say we’re too loud and that sometimes we’re so loud that he has to step outside and to calm himself when we’re like two times quieter than what a noisy class would sound like. He would have these types of rants few times a week and he would just keep on taking for like five minutes. Sorry for the long and boring story the guy in the video was just too similar to my past teacher I couldn’t believe it
