Finally data to stop people telling beginners to pick up kinnan if they're starting cedh! Hurr durr assemble 7 and flip kinnan is easy to do but it's not a winning strategy if that's all you're aiming for with the deck.

I think it’s good to look at such data, however what I would have added to this analysis is the difference between the win rate of the “good player” data set and the “beginner or new player” data set, per commander, such difference will provide insights on how much the performance is influenced by the skill gap of two people, furthermore such analysis can me made flexible even just in excel, you can add even more granularity if you can make your value of games variable and look at >15 or >5 or whatever other arbitrary number, another thing would be to add an intermediate player category. Another cool idea is to see whether an increase number of tournaments entries increases your win rate and if so, by how much (in terms of regression or slope or whatever you want to call it).
Last cool idea would be to see what is the relation between the performance of players in other competitive formats (modern, standard etc) and CEDH but I understand this would require manipulation of much much larger sets of data in this case maybe R or PowerBI can be sufficient I think.

I understand it's a tree when looking at a forest. But when looking at entry level decks - would be cool to know the cheapest best performing decks for people to enter the format

Well that is not impossible to answer. I guess just looking arround on all moxfield decklist we will have a good answer.

I don’t know of any “cheap” CEDH decks. Even if you’re on a mono colored commander. Your fast mana package is almost a grand by itself.

Proxies are the way to go if you have a local community that accepts it.

I really enjoy this cedh stats series, but I am skeptical of how well the exclusion criteria in this case accurately represents "beginner" players. Sure, 9 tournament entries on different decks could be argued to be a "beginner" for those decks, but if someone puts 9 entries on the same deck, I dont personally consider that a beginner. Additionally 8194/8792 = 93% of entries, which probably better reflects the "average" player rather than beginners. I think players with a maximum of 1-3 entries would better represent beginners, and also would show which decks are popular as first time tournament entries. From there you could compare 1st time entry winrate with average winrate and even "expert" winrate.

Not even to mention how many of those 1-9 tournament entries players couldve put in hundreds if not thousands of games in one deck running casual reps
At which point they are FAR from a beginner as a pilot

i find it difficult to recommend commander options with BLUE in their color identity, and i feel encouraged to push commander options that use Food Chain.
When a new player gets one of these commanders with access to blue, they feel pressured to get Force of Will, Force of Negation, Fierce Guardianship, Mental Mistep, and the other good free cast counterspells normally on top of the "fast mana rocks" and Gemstone Caverns so while they may have a "good time" they're looking at this big price that seemingly prices them out of playing the game.
Meanwhile, handing the player a deck that doesn't need all that (Magda) allows them to have a good play experience and feel like they HAVE the best they need to "compete."
Also, i feel Slicer should be one of the "best options" as he's simple to understand, simple to play, and you don't need "Sword of X and Y" for him to work.
