Tracing to not trace, yes thank you. Lately I've been hearing a lot that you can't even trace to learn, but tbh it helped me a lot. It's not like I trace a lot, but when I don't understand a pose or when I want to just practice lineart and I'm on artblock. Those drawins are not to show of course, just practice for myself.

Great video. Self critique can get difficult sometimes but some outside critique can be lacking or dangerous. I ask friends what their true thoughts are but in all honesty it's out lacking. It's like, "oh it's good " or "cool". Then asking online artist they are either too busy or can't answer. So I've been mentoring myself to see all that I lack in and improve by myself for years but having a mentor who know what they are doing and have deep knowledge and the skill to show you how it's done is something I really wanted. Thanks for highlighting this topic.

Taking time off isn't so bad. I switched careers from art to software and stopped drawing for a good 8 years. It took just a couple of weeks to get used to drawing again after i started working on a project this winter. I think i learned a lot of supplementary skills without realizing it that were applicable to art and the stuff I'm producing now is way better than anything I ever did before. I'm also just a way more focused adult who has learned to accept every problem as they come and work on them one at a time. I think the caveat is that I didn't take a break from drawing to do nothing, and also I was already good enough to work in the industry as an artist to begin with. However I went from being almost purely intuitively driven to being deeply technical and process oriented. That's turned out to be a way bigger benefit than I expected.
Ooooh I want this better version of volume 1 I keep being on the fence about buying it.... hmmm maybe I’ll check out the Kickstarter! This sounds like what I want a better with colour version! One of my main art inspirations is the webcomic "Ava's Demon". I guess I'm pretty lucky to grow up in a world where the artist lists her tools and methods right on her website.
I used to trace pictures as a first step, if I couldn’t get it from the video, and then I’ll get another piece of paper, and try to draw it based on what I can see over and over, until it looks like how I wanted it to look like 👍🏾

I would love to if you can do a short hair coloring tutorial because I don't where to shade things. That's my struggle when it comes to coloring hair. I have tried many hair tutorial but they don't explain how do you know which parts to shade a hair. :=/ i would appreciate a reply or a tip.
