    for the uneducated among us(me) lodging wheat is that which has fallen over. not standing upright. had to look that one up on wikipedia.

      That is agronomy terminology for fallen down mangled up crops. It's a nice place to stay as you'll be in the field awhile harvesting, the going will be slow. John T.

      @ZeorianHarvestingTrucking  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s a good crop. And it’s very heavy. Wind or weather can bring the wheat down and it is flat to the ground in places. Makes it very difficult to get a lot done due to how slow the machine has to go. We have to cut very low to the ground to peel it up and too much at one time will slug the machine.

    • @BillSkidmoreoutside
      @BillSkidmoreoutside ปีที่แล้ว

      @ZeorianHarvestingTrucking wheat doesn't necessarily have a strong stalk for a heavy crop, a hard rain will flatten it, glad to see all again

    So I was wondering…I know that is winter wheat but why is it so far ahead? I didn’t think the custom harvesters were that far north yet. So is that an earlier ripening verity? Or am I wrong about it being early for MT area?

    • @ZeorianHarvestingTrucking

      This wheat is right on time. The reason the harvesters are behind is due to all the rain and weeds they’ve been fighting. There’s still some cutting in Texas.

    Other than something about a tyre. And it was unclear what machine it was off there was no drama.
    What model combines are they?
    Congratulations on knowing when to sell your combine. It is very hard to give up what you have spent a lifetime doing.
    Perhaps you could explain why.
    What will you do with the rest of your gear
    With the money and time you could go on a cruise.

    • @ZeorianHarvestingTrucking
      @ZeorianHarvestingTrucking  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lots of things to respond to here.
      Drama was the breakdowns we had all at once. Nothing major like a field fire but stressful, none the less.
      I believe the combines are S780. I know nothing about the green machines so I’m not very knowledgeable with machine numbers, etc.
      Why did we sell? The cost of equipment, insurance, fuel and being on the road. The wheat acres were depleting for us. To make it work, more acres were needed to make it work and we were struggling with finding. A lot of farmers have machines so would only need you if they had a crop. The drought over the past 5+ years hurt. Jim decided it just wasn’t worth the stress. So, rather than making a trade (because it was time to do), we called it quits.
      The rest of the gear will be eventually sold.
      You make it sound like we became instantly rich with the sale of the equipment. 🤣

    Day 5 . What's your opinion on the John Deere over the New Holland??

    • @ZeorianHarvestingTrucking
      @ZeorianHarvestingTrucking  ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly, I can’t make a comparison of machines because to make a true comparison, we should be cutting along side of them. Personally, though, I miss some of the options the NH offers that JD does not. One being the cruise control. Sitting in the cab is no different in green than yellow. I believe the NH cab is quieter. NH sometimes gets looked down on but it’s a darn good combine. With great grain samples, thanks to the the dual rotors, I’m sure.
      Jim might have more detailed response. Maybe.

    One thing we learned the hard way was never to park any of our equipment so close together.. we had a truck catch fire in the middle of the night and burned two others before anyone could respond.. it might look cool the night before but man the level of regret was over a million 💰 Yes you have insurance but that doesn’t pay for lost time or possible crop losses from weather when your sitting waiting for replacement equipment.

    • @ZeorianHarvestingTrucking
      @ZeorianHarvestingTrucking  ปีที่แล้ว

      But if there was a fire, wouldn’t it catch the rest of the equipment regardless of how far apart they are? Unless you parked sporadically all over the field.

    • @6by6by6
      @6by6by6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They were parked at our gravel yard..like you filmed these guys doing at the end of the day.. when it comes to the equipment in the field we go to much greater lengths involving straw removal & light tillage, pain in the A** but it’s paid off more than once. We came to the conclusion that preventing catastrophic damage is much more cost effective than panic driven recovery so during harvest we never cut corners.
