Man… There’s no denying Jonny’s a phenomenal vocalist, but there’s just something special about his vocals in rock music. From Dance Gavin Dance, to Emarosa, to Slaves, and now Old Flame, he just belongs in this kind of music.
It’s the juxtaposition of his soul/rnb influence with the rock/post-hardcore that makes it work. Otherwise he’s just another rnb/soul artist which naturally doesn’t sound as interesting. This chorus is the best chorus he’s written in a longgggggg time. Maybe one of the best I’ve heard in a while from anyone in this genre

This is like a combination of Slaves, Emarosa and instrumentally it’s in the same category as what Rain City Drive is doing today, just with a touch of Jonny’s uniqueness to it (that’s a great thing). I don’t care what people say about Jonny man, I’m always gonna be a fan and a supporter. This man is an amazing talent, he’s a great father now and he’s striving to be the best version of himself. There's no denying that this man's voice is versatile, even though there are a lot of versatile male and female voices out there. The fact is that he has a distinctive voice. He could even have a song that samples a lot of his melisma. In fact he could even sing a song without words, just his riffs, licks and runs, that is, if it felt authentic to him.
My favorite singer today! After battling his demons and getting kicked out of bands, you can't question his vocals. He's just simply memorizing and another level.

I was thinking the same. The prelude/post chorus 🤔…the beginning and the part after the chorus definitely has that sound for sure
