God bless " Mary". She passed away yesterday, I believe, 09/02/2021. RIP "Mary".
They really were a lovely couple. She'll be missed.
For real?
Really wow
Met her at the Equity Christmas party about 5 years ago, lovely woman
Aww bless her. May she RIP
“ get the feckin cruchies out the car “ 😂😂😂😂😂😂
It's silly little lines like that that made Father Ted so brilliant!
Crunchies*
You can keep Yeats, Wilde, Joyce and Bono. The best line ever written by an Irish man is “Get them feckin Crunchies out’ve the car”
"Ya fat smelly cow! is up there 🤣
It has been announced today (Feb 9th 2021), that Rynagh O’Grady who played Mary has died. As brilliant a comic actress as she was (and the reactions here to her role in Father Ted testify), she was also a renowned theatre actress in Ireland and hugely respected and admired by her peers. Rest in Peace Rynagh, from your fans around the world
Today not the 9th?
She passed away yesterday x just announced today
Passed away on Sunday, very unexpected
@@ryanogrady158 are you related Ryan?? Xx
@@AndreaMartinMusic Ye she was my aunt, we are all very shocked but glad she is getting the goodbye she deserves from everyone
The most realistic married couple in TV history.
Just say you have disappointing relationships with no way out
@@Bill-Watterson....in the style that its not all " love and marriage...go together like a horse and carriage".
@@Bill-Watterson It was a play on no divorce in Ireland.
I love how John can't stand Mary and yet he STILL holds the door for her at the hospital!
Samuel Holmes 🤣
Samuel Holmes I'm sure John would have let that door hit Mary if it wasn't for the priests being sat in the waiting room 😂
I suppose that was Patrick Drury holding the door for Rynagh O'Grady 😉
I think that gesture was made for the sake of Ted and Dougal to keep up the pretence of being happily married!
Robert Palmer had an opinion about this

02:37 "Ya big pile of shite!" I don't know why that makes me laugh so much!
"Get them fecking crunchies out of the car" idk why but that line always cracks me up
John and Mary O'Leary make Basil and Sybil Fawlty seem like a loving couple.
And Pete and Dawn Sutcliffe from Gavin and Stacey.
"You basstaaard!"
"SLAG!"
Aah they're a lovely couple..
I love her "Ya ignorant prick!" as he pushes past her.
I do too! "I'll watch nothin'! I'LL STICK THIS UP YOUR ARSE- Oh, Faaather..."
“ I’ll stick this up your arse” I’m weak 😂😂
This is my favourite line also
John & Mary were just something else. In addition to the hilarity, the apt social commentary is something. An incredible show.
Greatest Irish TV show of all time.
6.38 - John is in the closet "LOVELY FAGS", 6.50 - Mary is in the closet... literally !
Get them feckin' crunchies out of the car. Utter class

One of the greatest comedies and lines ever
R.I.P. Mary (Rynagh O'Grady)
Great character

RIP Rynagh O’Grady who plays Mary O’Leary in Father Ted sadly passed on February 8, 2021.
Rynagh O'Grady (1954 - 8 February 2021) was an Irish actress who was known for her roles of Mary O'Leary in the Channel 4 sitcom Father Ted and Minnie Kennedy in the 1999 film A Love Divided. She trained in the Abbey Theatre School and first appeared on their stage in 1969.
Oh man really? That's sad. RIP Rinagh.
Iconic role this, was she also in the Commitments?
@@jockmackay9582 True she played Bernie's Mother also in Far and Away (1992) Tom Cruise just to name a few.
First appeared on stage in 69? Man that's 50 years ago, what a long career
💓💓
RIP she was brilliant
“He’s no friend of mine” is one of my favourite lines.
Samesies
Mary and John should have had their own tv series.
Rynagh O’Grady
Dermont morgan
Frank Kelly
Rest in peace and thank you for the never-ending laughs
Just the little subtle things like Dougal stealing the sweets is what helped make this show the work of genius it is
"You're looking great anyway"
These two are something of a social commentary on marriage in Ireland at the time. Divorce simply wasn't possible (at least, not if you wanted to keep your social reputation intact), but evidently they remembered the "Til death do us part" clause didn't specify how death had to part them.
The writers of Father Ted were genius, the actors were without equal!
I think the bloke who played father Ted had a lot of input, he's feckin' class, will you no have a cuppa T, go on, go on, you'll be the only one without one!;!!
The one who played father Ted he was called Dermot Morgan he died one day after the last episode of father Ted was filmed he was only 45 years old leaving behind a very promising career he'd just been commissioned to write a tv series he had three sons as well very shocking for everyone
I used to love watching this. Can't believe it's been so long since it finished. These days with all the piss weak liberals, they wouldn't be allowed to make it.
You big pile of shite, priceless 🤣
I've lost count of how many times I've watched the whole lot.... brilliant, and I crack up laughing every time! 😇😂
"Ah father you look wonderful, is that a new outfit?"
lolol love it
Heavy Duty hahahahhaah
02:43 "I'll watch nothin'". Has to be the most Irish response ever
"I'll stick this up your arse!"
Prior to 1995 there was no divorce in Ireland. Hence, the Johns and Marys.
I knew quite a few couples like them 😂
Probably lots called John and Mary too
The sign of a married catholic couple. Can't stand the sight of one another, know divorce is an abomination and act all nicey lovey dovey when the priest comes round. Classic lol
The sheer amount of time John was so closed to being shanked by Mary had it not been for Father Ted's appearances though... Is that a Catholic thing?
Amy Reid it's almost like that's the whole joke
Absolutely. What was special about the comedy of Father Ted was that it constantly took the piss out of catholicism, but somehow managed to do it without being offensive. As with all great comedies, Father Ted gets better with age!
Amy Reid, don't be so naive, its comedy!
aughalough1 I can't speak for the Irish. But if someone were to ask me if this was a fair representation of the dynamics between a typical Indian Catholic couple and their priest, I'd say it's bang on target!!!
I love the bit when Mary is trying to drown John in a bucket.
No, she was just washing his hair 😂
@@cannibalbunnygirl she has such lovely soft hands 🤣🤣
I've always thought when John shouts slag he looks and sounds just like Rik Mayall
How did one sitcom have so many great characters.
Get them feckin' Crunchies out of the car...
you got a face like a pair of tits
spike spiegel at least thats on pair between us
Will ya have a pack of toffos father?
+Annie Grass jesussss toffos were did they go
Are you just gonna stand there all day? You fat ol' bitch
"Mary was just washing my hair " PFFFT BAHAHAHAHA
got to give it to them, They do come up quick on the spot explanations
“She has such lovely, soft hands.” 😁
When Father Ted was made, divorce was still illegal in Republic of Ireland, so John and Mary are stuck.
@ but at the same time they don't the whole world to know about their failing marriage and have to dealing with the shame of it
What about an annulment?
@@Andyscobie that's not simple either it can take just as long as divorce I think. Also John and Mary are from a generation that believed 'til death do us part' so divorce or an annulment is still shameful
@@wickedwitchoftheeast88 I see; I imagine in rural communities like Craggy Island, this would be especially shameful.
@@Andyscobie yes it probably would be shameful in a small village like craggy island thats why they act up for the priest because he's a man of god and given the utmost respect
“No..no medical tests......sure what would he know about that Ted!” Fekin brilliant!
“He’s no friend of mine…actually, that might have sounded a little disrespectful.” 😂😂
Get them feckin crunchies out of the car is one of my favourite lines.😂
''Ah it's only a flesh wound'' '' Ah it's not broken, and sure if it is, what the hell? '' This is one of the most quotable shows ever. Me and my sister watched this show compulsively for about ten years and now, whatever the situation, there is always a Father Ted quote that fits. Top class writing from Graham Linehan and Arthur Matthews.
'Tis but a scratch!'
Its just a headache 😂😂
Down with that sort of thing....
My grandparents were John & Mary both Catholic this has me crying with laughter 😂
Mine were too although not as extreme as John and Mary and they did love each other deep down they just communicated by constantly being at each other's throat! 😂
Sad to hear that Rynagh O'Grady has passed away aged 67......another hilarious Father Ted legend gone.
Mary and John's rows always had me in stitches !!!!!
"And ye can stay in there till ye learn some feckin manners" lmao
She’s got to come out the closet sometime
I loved John and Mary. They should of had their own series.
They Remind me of my neighbours. 50 yrs married and they feckin hate each other😅
They should have been in the show a lot more. Fantastic and realistic couple
John and Mary, fantastic characters, trapped together but can't divorce (for *those* reasons), taken to the extreme. I had older relatives that were similar (but not violent thankfully, but they were miserable as a result). The actors playing them both are wonderful. The "Hello Fathers!" from within the cupboard still has me crying laughing.
The handcuffs scene is hilarious
even after all these years, ive seen all episodes probably 20 times, and i still look out for fr ted and i often see some tiny little detail that i had somehow overlooked - fantastic actors & writers and very much on point in commenting (with a little comic exaggeration!) on small town ireland of not so long ago... RIP Dermot, you were truly a genius of the mad and very funny variety!
YES ohhhh YES drink
John and Mary are 2 of my favourite supporting characters. Very sad to hear of Rynagh O'Grady's passing. RIP
This reminds me of the time me and my hubby were arguing at the checkout of tesco's next minute we looked up and saw my daughter's teacher. 'ah hello Mrs Highland'. Me and my hubby were nice as pie till we got out pooped earshot of the teacher 😂😂
Probably arguing because you keep referring to him as "hubby" *cringe*
M.
😂😂
Sod off you dumb bint
Arguing in a busy supermarket. Classy 👏
7:17 Love how ted casually asks "Is there someone in the cupboard?" As if its perfectly normal.
"You've got a face like a pair of tits" has to be my favourite insult of all time.
SomeStupidFace Then comes the voice, “Hello Father” 🤣
On Craggy Island it probably is
My parents weren’t Catholic but my Dad ruined her life and she STILL wouldn’t divorce him. My Dad was a bully who put in an act that we were a delightful, loving family. Vile man.
My Dad was a scumbag to my mum but they both were bad as each other in different ways
Ah Mary, I didn't know you were there, I though you were at your mother's, no I'm In the cupboard, 😁😁😁
This was pure unadulterated comedy gold, RIP Dermot Morgan
Rip rynagh o Grady that played Mary so sad that she passed away
"Ah, sure it's nothing. It's just a... headache". Brilliant. 😂👏🏻
The hand motion when he describes a "slight knick".😂
"It's not a stab wound". 😂
Peter Green Just got a slight nick while Mary was putting the bandage on! 🤕
From the sounds of it John was lucky Mary didn't kill him with that stab wound 😂😂
"You know Father, I think you'd be brilliant on television"😂
John and Mary were pure comedy gold!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Loved them
Should've had a spin off show with John and Mary 😂 i would've watched that.
They’d probably be dead after a couple of episodes.
There’s saying in Welsh “Angel penffordd a diawl pentan” meaning “An angel on the road and a devil on the hearth.”
That seems to sum up lots of marriages haha. Lots of front, lots of grief behind the scenes!
Fr ted will never die every episode was great still watch it today
"Oh Mary, I forgot you were there"
M3
He stole 2 lollipops.
You're looking great, anyway
The best tv sitcom of all time. None of my idiot friends have even heard of it. 😂
* had a bloody bandage on his head
'it's a headache, i don't know why i bother coming, really' 😃
No matter how many times you watch this it's always hilariously funny one of the true all time great sitcoms
The shotgun scene was savage 😂😂😂
Ted is meant to be the "sane person in an insane world" but he's taken for a ride when he talks to John and Mary. That probably takes place every single day in Catholic communities.
"Ted, they don't have the Sound Affects album, we might as well just go"
"He's no friend o'mine!"
"I'll get them, love. You stay in the cupboard."
"Well what else can I do, ya stupid great...!"
Get them feckin crunchies out of the car 😂
Rest in peace Mary. Thanks for making me laugh out loud. The best couple in comedy by far....
If there was ever a couple who deserved there own spin off show, it was 'John and Mary'....😂
Thank you Rynagh O Grady for the brilliant laughs John and Mary gave us. R.I.P
Thanks for putting this together - these two were my favorite part of the show.
Rahul Patel I
I always get the feeling JOHN should of been called JOSEPH that would of been the icing on the cake for these characters .
Fupping hell, I love John and Mary!
I just learnt that Rynagh O'Grady, playing Mary sadly passed away last year.
The shotgun incident cuts off too soon. Father Ted starts talking to an old lady outside the shop and after a while you hear the gun go off and Ted turns round with a concerned look on his face. Should have included that!
My favourite minor characters from ted
Rob Roe they were the best by far!
@@octaviancaesarhibernicus4447 Father Larry Duff is my favorite.

Everyone on this show is BRILLIANT ... But I seriously love these two
Love John and Mary, the only couple to make domestic violence funny. Love Father Ted my favourite Irish comedy
"We might see your friend."
"Who's that, Sophia Loren?" [everyone laughs]
"No Father, the Pope!"
"He's no friend of mine!" [only Ted laughs]
RIP Rynagh O'Grady. Cant believe shes gone.
I don't know about everyone else, but personally I think John and Mary are underrated characters
R.I.P Rynagh, but what a legacy you leave behind.
John finally killed her then, so?
@@SamuelBlack84 Yep. He had "A face like a pair o' tits" apparently...... he never let that go.......
@@andypreston1524 Now, he'll have to get them fecking crunchies out the car himself

Yet he holds the door as they leave the waiting room of the hospital....a gentleman😂😉
If the priests weren't sitting in the waiting room I have no doubt John would have let that door hit Mary and knock her over lol
John and Mary always squabbling and back biting then in each other's arms when Ted or Dougal turn up
I love the way they do that.
@ ceri nolancerinolan Yeah because they're catholics divorce is an absolute no no and acting up in front of the Priest is also a big no no it would be safer to swear at the Queen 😂
@Strange things are happening to Woody No thanks needed.
Absolute genius of Linehan and Matthews
What a fantastic show
John and Mary,
Husband and wife.
Bringing home a brand new life.
love the part where she punches him in the face through the door 😂
Um...are you sure it was his face? :P
@@SonyaWilsondownunder I think they mean the closet at the end of the video
It looks like she headbutted him lol
Miss those old style shops that sold everything. RIP Mary/ Rynagh. So good in Fr Ted. A phenomenal and formidable theatre star too by all accounts.
Aww yes! Ours was 'Mattie Grady's', I loved the smell of it
Such a wonderful comedy. My 2 favourites were Father Jack and Mrs Doyle.
Father Dougal nicks the lollipops and then Mary says” your looking great anyway” a classic Dougal expression of trying to access if Mary can really see him. The whole time as if Mary being in the cubby is perfectly natural. These days you need this humor.
Gotta love some John and Mary 🥰🤣
One of the best comedies from a great era
I love John and Mary on Father Ted
Love Father Ted's reaction at 5:58
“he’s no friend of mine”
Love Mary so much. May the lord guide her home
