And yeah, sure, after so many years I get how things work. That is why I use Macs, for so many years! And never had any of the problems that you mentioned.... I currently have 5 Macs used in my business, at home, and for my 9 y/o daughter's enjoyment, lol! Sorry you have had such bad luck! Thanks for the link! Mac has given me a good living for a couple of decades and will continue to do so! Good vibes for sure!
You can replace the Macbook air screen. Even an idiot like me has done one or two!... but I leave that to the staff now. Because they do in 20 minutes what takes me an hour. It's only glued on the sides, with a 3M tape. You remove the polarizer. $150 sounds insanely high, they became available summer of 2012, I was buying for 80 and selling for 150. Now they're in the $30s and we sell them for 60something, and repair for 200. 5-10k/mo in revenue comes in from something people call "impossible"
I love this. Thanks! I'm not a repair person, but I'm a repair person wanna be. I change out my batteries myself and I use iFixit. I attempted a hard drive but had a panic attack mid way and gave up. To be revisited.
I like the website layout, the detailed pictures, the screw details to death. But in the end, A lot of those guides have you removing the axle, windshield, mirror and gas tank from your car to upgrade your tape machine to a CD player. $150 also sounds insane for a 11.6" polarizer in 2013, but is on par with iFixit's 500%-1000% standard part markups(another thing people should be aware of when browsing their website - insane price gouging on everything). $30 parts are almost always $100-$200.
Eli,YOU ARE A GREAT TEACHER,Im new to Mac,and I learned alot from this video, can't wait for your next Mac vid.I liked and subscribed.O your vid on The Anatomy of the Computer was GREAT.,Gio
Also, on iFixit... their guides can be awesome, but sometimes dangerous. I remember delivering a part to a neighboring shop, this dude had taken every screw out of the computer, even six screws under the screen, that do not even screw into the screen, because the guide told him to. It was insane. You need to remove 10 screws to fix this computer, in three steps, he was on page 17 or something of this crazy guide. iFixit makes repair seem more difficult than it has to be.
When I worked in an authorized service centre the average age of a broken mac was 2.5 to 4 years. I'm talking truly broken, where something has failed, not "I don't know what this means" problems, but "This thing won't work now" problems. The majority of fixes I had to do (say 60%) were for hard drives. That kind of tells you that if you haven't backed up your mac in 3 years, you should do it soon....
Anyone who can replace a hard drive in an iBook G3 or a screen on a TiBook should be a Mac certified Technician. I also found out the hard way the G4 Aluminum keyboards are different and incompatible between the backlit and non-backlit models. My favorite Apple repair was soldering in a new keyboard key on an Apple IIc Enhanced.
I have performed countless repairs on my MacBook and I'm not certified and have had no issues, but if you are having your Mac or any computer repaired by a stranger they should be certified just in case.
Eli what's the best way of going about repairing a mac laptop computer that may have had water damage? And what are some key signs or indicators that the computer is actually not working because of water damage?
There really isnt too much to Mac repair... google the problem youre having then go over to iFixIt.com and see how to swap out the part. Mac is not Windows for good and bad...
Heyyy Eli, I'd like to thank you for all your effort and professional work on your videos..... I got a question.... which would be a very good tool to restore deletes files on a Mac book pro????? I would need to restore some deleted files for a user... please advise. Thx.
Haha, I luvs it! So glad that I have over close to 30 years I've never had any major problems using Macs for many hours every day! Professional as a Grafiker and Fotografiker, and as a private person, hehe! Never had a virus, trogen, or any other problem. What is the point in paying for MS-DOS?? Thanks for being nice in a certain way! I've never had any real problems that I couldn't deal with! I'm an Artist, not a programmer, so who cares? I have a nice world I can work with!
he didn't say it was common for a macintosh computers hardware to fail, he just said when it does have a problem it usually is. that means most of the time they have 0 problems at all
Don't use Time Machine, it only backs up your settings and preferences, I suggest using something like SuperDuper! to back up the entire drive to another one, a lot safer and it saves absolutely everything.
A mac is a computer that doesn't update automatically and when it's new nothing starts up with it which makes it fast and stable. Then it has less visual effects then windows which makes it use less ram. And there is a huge thing on the bottom and a gray bar on the top which makes you have less screen space to work with which is why everyone loves full screen so much. Also to get rid of a program you have to go into the c:drive. Also it's harder to exit out of applications. x doesn't work.
I am going to buy a hard drive that I will use with both windows and Mac OS, I am also thinking of using Time Machine, can you suggest any good hard drive, also considering the file system thing.
Just got myself a 2007 Mac Pro with 32 gigs of ram. Damn that thing is fast; but it does have one problem. The itunes wont start up. I have downloaded itunes twice & installed it twice, but nothing. Any ideas ??? Reply
Didn't iFixit put out an article a while back on how Apple's trying their best to get rid of middlemen repair shops? Like, even if you order a new hard drive for the Mac through warranty, they'll make you take your client's computer into the Apple store for diagnostics.
Oy, help me fix this camera issue: "There is no connected camera" On my Imac, I tried the terminal command: sudo killall AppleCameraAssistant What do I do? It is out of warranty of course.
I could literally go to my favourite tech store and buy two iMac Pro's right now. Remember how Minecraft didn't work on mac until beta 1.3? yeah, best computers in the world... -.-
Eli, P lease HELP! Can't empty Trash Folder. I get the message "The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “” can’t be read or written. (Error code -36)" TRied Secure empty Trash: sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash/* It doesn't work. El Capitan is governing my machine..... 😢
Hmmm, FreeBSD evolved out of unix, and it wasn't free back then, it was just BSD...linux was BSD's answer to opensource. I betcha BSD came up with FreeBSD to get a piece of the marketshare. I get essentially everything I need from Linux, so there's really no benefit to move to FreeBSD. With that being said, I don't think I'd ever completely move to FreeBSD, but I'd be interested in giving it a whirl.
Ok, that's nice but I suggest you upgrade the ram yourself, because it takes 600 bucks just for ram. The ram needs to be magic just to be worth that much of money.
***** When I first took apart an iPhone 4 and 5 then put it back together with all screws intact i must of been so mentally exhausted and spent alongside the anxiety & fear of breaking the device!
Eli computer guy I tried to go to the website support.apple.com/specs/and nothing came up. The page came with all the computers on for 2011 or other computers. I've had this computer since 2007. +Eli the Computer Guy People who do hackintoshes often steal serials from macs and inject it into their efi and DTST file so they can register it with Apple. This enables them to use facetime and other restricted apps. If the serial is used from your computer then you may not be able to get apple care for it, or have issues when trying to register it to an itunes account or use it with specialty software.
Os x is mot that great, i have a samsung 830 ssd and it shuts down in about in 20 sec that should be like just 1-3 sec max! So mac os x has a lot of bugs bugs especialy mauntain lion!

Well, I from Brazil and english is not my mother language. Tha is because I like Eli's videos. His diction is amazing. Well, for me it helps a lot.

One thing I like about OS X compared to Windows when comes to repairs is the built-in drivers. That alone saves me a lot time and researching.

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME STUFF HERE ELI!!
Hey Eli, i'm quite certain that an Apple warranty does still provide coverage if the hard drive and the ram were to be changed.
Eli you the man!! Really enjoyed the session.

on windows, it's not bothering because it's essential and you don't WANT to disable it. btw, how's it going with the compatible formats?
I am going to buy a hard drive that I will use with both windows and Mac OS, I am also thinking of using Time Machine, can you suggest any good hard drive, also considering the file system thing.
Time machine backups everything... just use a install cd and choose to restore from time machine backup to recover your whole hard drive...
Thanks! very professional help....
thank you eli. you're the best!
eli... YOU ROCK
Thanks for this Mac tutorial.
Can you do a windows 10 repair with how to get to the windows 7 features like disk management

Wow, my opinion has changed a lot since then. xD I'm saving up for a 27" late 2013 32GB RAM 2GB graphics iMac. :P
It's called a dock and it is implemented far better than the Taskbar in Windows.
Presidente, very good advice
Eli, this is informative as usual... but, very general though...
You can disable that "ugly ass shelf-thing", unlike in windows where the start menu is everywhere
Thanks for sharing Eli.
Eli- Do you do Mac repair ??
PLEASE advise- I think its hardive
Oy, help me fix this camera issue: "There is no connected camera"

Yeah, that's what I'm doing. I can save $400, IE almost an iPad, on it. That would allow me to get an iPad for the lols, or whatever I want.

Eli computer guy
I tried to go to the website support.apple.com/specs/and nothing came up.

But there is no place to put the serial number. Like your video says. So where do I go. My serial number is W8735139X92
because they updated the website which is www.apple.com ok?
why did you show us your serial number
Why not..? Can you actually do any nefarious with it? ... honest question...
