I appreciate these lessons, Eli! I received my first job as QA, and I've realized that knowing at least a little about many things is helpful (in addition to your own job description, of course). Knowing my own duties is great, but not entirely sufficient. Having a basic mental map of everything related to a software product makes me tremendously more helpful at work.

They are not really used very much anymore. Once NAT became a standard feature in all routers/ Modems the need for Proxy's almost vanished. There are a few uses for them, but not for the general public or the average admin. I'll do a class on building a SQUID proxy at some point though... ( I also did a class on sing Web Proxy Servers for Hacking, under the Hacking playlist)

I'm meant to be doing a project during my IT internship, and while my colleagues are all amazingly helpful and patient (and point me to the right resources), this is a great overview to someone new to the field - and a necessary foundation to understand more specialized material. Great job!
You can use it if you want, but I think by the dedicated server it is usually meant that the whole server is given as a service to one customer in comparison to a shared server. It's probably a term used in commercial world.

I spent 6 months in college and never understood how it all tied together, as well as i have taken out of (just) this one video. I have a Bachelors in Computer Science now and i still watch his videos on occasion to refresh my memory. +Daniel Lee A lot of schools use them. I can think of several schools here in northern montana, and they all have mac labs, with mac servers. By schools i mean k-12, I'm not sure about the collegiate level.

I really enjoyed this presentation, Eli. I'm just beginning my journey as a Data Center Technician, starting 3 days from now. There's much to learn, since I'm just coming from 6 years of doing nothing but IT Help Desk Support..
Daniel Cederberg One thing I've learned when it comes to learning technical things is that the best way to learn and retain information is through slightly different iterations of the same thing. That's why in school for instance you have a book you are expected to read as well as lecture over the same info. I for instance took an A+ software, A+ Hardware, and Network+ class, reading the required material while also reading a book not required for either class, all in one semester. The overlap and slightly different iterations definitely helped solidify the information in my head. I passed all three exams by 110 points or more all within a week. Not saying this couldn't be trimmed down, but to stick to a "one pass of info" routine has its drawbacks.
Because it's a lecture. People aren't familiar with the information already (if they were, they'd watch a five min refresher or skim over an article), so repeating info makes it stick better. They might also miss something important the first time, so doing it like this ensures the viewer can just pop one of Eli's videos on and sit back without worrying about retaining briefly mentioned facts like they would have to with a very efficient and concise video - retention kind of happens automatically.

By far the best tech channel I've found on the University of TH-cam. This is still very helpful almost a decade later.

How do you get the IP of a server
Open command prompt and run ipconfig
or open terminal and type "ifconfig"

I really enjoyed this presentation, Eli. I'm just beginning my journey as a Data Center Technician, starting 3 days from now. There's much to learn, since I'm just coming from 6 years of doing nothing but IT Help Desk Support..

Daniel Cederberg One thing I've learned when it comes to learning technical things is that the best way to learn and retain information is through slightly different iterations of the same thing. That's why in school for instance you have a book you are expected to read as well as lecture over the same info. I for instance took an A+ software, A+ Hardware, and Network+ class, reading the required material while also reading a book not required for either class, all in one semester. The overlap and slightly different iterations definitely helped solidify the information in my head. I passed all three exams by 110 points or more all within a week. Not saying this couldn't be trimmed down, but to stick to a "one pass of info" routine has its drawbacks.
Because it's a lecture. People aren't familiar with the information already (if they were, they'd watch a five min refresher or skim over an article), so repeating info makes it stick better. They might also miss something important the first time, so doing it like this ensures the viewer can just pop one of Eli's videos on and sit back without worrying about retaining briefly mentioned facts like they would have to with a very efficient and concise video - retention kind of happens automatically.
I love These videos. They are clear and precise, but easy to follow. You use the board or items to show and make the discussion clear. GREAT JOB! Keep going.
man i like your videos but you have to stop repeating yourself! what i mean is that you say everything two or more times! you do not say your points only once but twice or more!

I stumbled upon this video through video search, and I'm glad I clicked on the first thing or the second !! I found. Very elaboration and very clear. I like how he speaks like a teacher and how down to the basic and up to explain things. I had a friend who tried to explain this to me, but it just only made sense when I saw the video. Eli you are awesome!!! I am studying for my CCNA Cert and plan on taking the test in 3 Months. I have noticed some similarities between the Comptia Security + and the CCNA where some of the knowledge is very similar and some is not. Keep up the great work thank god for people like you.

Eli a great professor!!!! so here is something i found helpful. if you are someone that already has some server knowledge and just want a refresher or your in a hurry and have only 10 mins and want to know everything about a servers than i suggest just watching from 42:32 but if your a beginner like me watch the entire thing.
