Late 70s- 80s I had one of these for songwriting and making demos. It was really easy to do sound on sound (mono) recordings to build up layers of sound. With fresh tape and clean heads, I could get seven, sometimes eight layers. I learned to record the bass and 'kick' drum sounds first - with bouncing from one track to the other; it's the trebles that goes, so record the bass first. One feature not picked up on here! The sloping surface made it much easier to load tapes than with completely vertical decks. However, if you laid the deck flat on a table as it was, the fat end was towards you. The wooden surround was literally just a frame, with the entire deck mounted on it with four bolts. You could easily un-do these bolts and reverse the frame, so that the narrow end was towards you, giving a nicely sloping desk to work. So the wedge shape gave advantages whether upright or flat. Ingenious!

Was great to see this model.Bought one I believe in 1977.Worked very easily and lasted 13 years until the rubber band broke.Easy enough to fix and not expensive but I gave it away as raising a family became time consuming with little ones .Might even buy 1 again but likely to check out the market first to see what s comparable as it was totally reasonable in cost.

I've had this model deck since I bought it new in 1975 (39yrs), still works great. It was toward the low end price wise, I think the tc-66 was lowest. Only difference I think was you couldn't flip the case on the 366. Nice to know people still have these. A testament to their quality.

you can flip the case on the 366, no MIKE ATT, oe DIN plug, and the mic's in are 1/8"

U don’t want reels running away from u .. reason faceplate’s slanted .. & reversible 4 horizontal orientation .. bit of a fiddle but. Btw; killer recording/surprisingly bright & detailed (maybe it’s ur live off-air recording 2 uToob .. but I can hear the quality .. what fun. By the way;: did u hafta put spacers behind the metal reels? (Not required 4 plastic reels)

I've had a TC-377 since they were first sold. My only suggestion is that the "special tape" button might have improved the sound of playback on the high output tape in the demo.

I just picked up this model up at a garage sale for $5.00. Powers up, recording lights work, missing dust cover, but the take up real spins about 1/2 speed of normal. Any ideas for quick easy & inexpensive fix?

I know this is an old comment but thought I would reply anyway. Behind the faceplate there is a friction drive system. One wheel pushes up agains another to drive the take up reel. The one drive wheel has a tension adjustment that might be too loose. Also those drive wheels have rubber them that might be dirty and can cause them to slip. Clean all friction drive wheels and check the tension adjuster that is mounted on the one wheel. It has 3 metal tabs that can repositioned at different places on the wheel itself. The tighter the tabs , the tighter the tension. Hope this helps, if you still need it.

You can push tape a little further than that, especially tape that requires higher levels. As long as the source isn't clipping and distorting, it should be OK, tape compression gives a nice sound if lightly used like here.
