I've always thought that hearing Rob sing is like getting a warm hug.
Everytime I hear this it brings me back to missing my son when he was gone in the Army for six years. So glad he came home safe. So sad for those who never got the homecoming.
This song was written during the Second World War for soldiers who were serving overseas. Very emotional over several generations.
A WWII Crooner. A soldier, in a Fox hole, preparing for battle, writes home for Christmas. It still fits any service person, if they make it or not.

Isn't this A cappella at its best? It really brings out emotions for me. Memories pass by. Especially because of the way of singing that takes me to earlier times. Beautiful and less beautiful. Also in recent years I have been going into Christmas with mixed feelings. It's nice that I get to spend another day with four children and their partners... And even with their father, my ex. But there is also a great loss. My partner who passed away in January 2019 and whose birthday was on Christmas Day. Christmas is beautiful and where we in a religious family really celebrate the birth of Jesus. But I'm also honest when I say that I'm also happy when it's over.
This song has been around for a long time, but it has become a song that many military families have come to love. Back when I was in the Navy and being deployed on a 6 month cruise, this is the song that was played while our ship got underway, we were scheduled to return on Dec 20th, we ended up returning on the 23rd, and it was played again as we pulled in. Ever since then this song brings tears to our eyes, and the way Home free did it is of course the best I've ever heard
This song was written in 1943 and first recorded by Bing Crosby and since then expresses a service man's desire to be home at Christmas so the subject of the video is fitting.

The year I lived in Salt Lake, Utah, this played on a loop with other songs in the K-Mart I worked in. There was no way I could get home to Michigan and I hated this song. This version helped me put that aside.

I believe this song first came out during the first world wars. I'm not sure if it is the first or the second world war, but it was big with the soldiers over-seas.

I had to laugh when you said you didn’t know if it’s one of their original songs since I know it’s 80 years old!
My Navy son won't be home for Christmas this year. 😢 He's been deployed since May and was supposed to be home in Nov but world events have caused them to be extended. He's also missing his first wedding anniversary. Military members and their families sacrifice so much and it hits hard this time of year. 😔

While I appreciate your delight, this is a Christmas song. Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus. But you find it necessary to take His name in vain as you listen to the music.
