This was seven years ago. He’s only getting better every day.
Adam actually learned how to play the drums to become a better vocal percussionist. He majored in trumpet, though, so he already has good breath control.
Love Adam Rupp & his insane talent. He is the best out there in my opinion. He simulates the sounds of a drum perfectly. Many drummers have commented on how good he is. He sounds so realistic. His breath control must be crazy. I heard he makes the sounds both while inhaling & exhaling. This was a few years ago & hard to believe but he is even better now. Adam is the glue that holds Home Free together. He is their secret weapon which other a cappella groups can't match.
He went to music school and majored in trumpet, so yes, his breath control is not only amazing but trained and practiced. There is a technique that some instrumentalists use called circular breathing that I'm certain Adam uses to some extent during these solos. The technique allows them to continue to "exhale" while taking in a breath by using air stored in their cheeks. Once the technique is mastered it allows, say, a trumpet player to play a continuous note on what sounds like a single breath but really isn't. Its use is more limited without an instrument but can be used to produce some of the sounds he makes.
This one is eight years old. He has a new version now where he uses a looper live to create a new set each night. There have been a couple different shows uploaded to TH-cam in the past couple of months.

At a concert a couple of days ago in Greeneville, TN, he had an eleven minute “drum” solo of so many different sounds. It was amazing. You need to see them live.

Hey guys, you've got to check this one out, Home Free - 9 to 5 + Beatboxing Breakdown, October 27, 2015. This shows the whole group beatboxing. They are all multi talented. It's insane what these guys can do. It doesn't seem to matter what genre they've got it covered. They could sing the back of a bottle of cyanide and make you want to drink it. lol!

Like everyone has said, he has only gotten better over the years and to hear him live is even more mind blowing.
Thank you for this reaction to Adam's drum solo. However this is very old, about 8 years old. Adam is so much more evolved as a percussionist now, Give a listen to one of the fan videos posted from their current tour or even their early 2020 tour, pre-pandemic.
Someone pointed out that his vocal range is as wide and crazy as Tim's, because his sounds encompass such deep tones and such clear highs.

I know I'm spamming you a bit now 🤣, but we stunned him once, in Prague in 2018, when we replied back on the "3"-thing almost perfectly. There's a few of his here in Europe that travel to see them when they come to this side of the pond and the guys "know" us. We've never seen him so surprised. (Except perhaps in Oslo 2020 when the guys left him hanging on stage after his solo ended 🤣).

Loved that you saw this one. It’s my favorite. He uses a looper now which is cool but this is so cool and so good. The rest of Home Free calls Adam a “freak of nature” which is true. He might be an alien…hahaha. I’m sure his use of a looper now is to save his voice. When I see this I just realize that you don’t need instruments when you have Adam. Great reaction boys! If you want to see how far he's taken this over the last 7 years, look on wbish3 TH-cam channel and watch one of her videos of Adam's drum solo from this month's concerts. He's using a looper now and the results are amazing.
He has a degree in music performance focusing on Trumpet. So that's how he can double tongue, triple tongue, and circular breathe.
Adam actually plays the drums. He majored in music. Playing the drums helped him perfect his beatboxing skills.

Great reaction. I’m glad that you finally reacted to Adam. There are a few drum solos but this is one of the best ones.
Adam started as a trumpet player, then became a beat-boxer/vocal percussionist (his preferred term because he creates multiple effects not just the beat), then finally he learned how to play the drums. He learned the drums after this was recorded and after becoming a two time beatboxing national champ. If you want to see Adam after he learns the drums, you need to watch his Michael Jackson inspired drum solos. They are mostly recorded during one of their European tours.

He can play real drums also, has a bachelor's degree in music, his main instrument is trumpet, but also can play drums, keyboard and bass guitar.
I've never seen any beatboxer use his hands like Rupp. I have to think that he IS a drummer who can also beatbox. 😍🤩

Adam Rupp did teach himself to be proficient in Drumming so he could get the moves correct he is not a trained singer AND yet again he taught himself to sing better he is a Tenor. In older clips live shows Guilty pleasures He taught himself Korean. There is nothing ANY of these guys can't do but Adam Rupp is special in his capacity to learn new things all the time. World Class beatboxer yes but just plane World class.

It's all laid out beforehand because it cuts down on issues. If you pay attention, the lights are coordinated with the timing of the arrangement.

Sorry but that’s not true. Adam has never competed internationally. He has two local sweepstakes wins more than a decade ago. He has said he is not into competing but rather appreciates musicianship.

He Sings in over 7 oktaves and in 14 Languages playes 7 instruments that we know of and are doctoring in music!!! He started music school at 5 years old and told the teatcher that the piano was out of tune!!!
He is 28 years young know and comes from Kazakhstan! When he was 22 in 2017 he was invited to compete in a Chines contest called "Singer" against well known and older Chinese artist contestents! No one knew him then. After episode 1 he was know al over China and outher countrys and got the nick name "imported little brother"!!! From episode 4 he was a mega seleberti in China!!!

Here's Adam's solo I videoed Saturday 2/19/22 at their latest show. They are now calling his solo a beatbox/drum solo. In this one he uses looping and more light show effects. It's awesome to see in person. I think it's been a few years since but Adam has been Beatbox World Champion twice! He's also a big gamer. If you watch there Quarantine video you will see his collection in the background.

Well don't I feel stupid. All this time I've had mad respect and admiration for what I thought were Adam's unique and extraordinary skills. Apparently he's not that big a deal if all of them can beat box. And now I see Austin has taken over Adam's signature harmonica solo in "Man of Constant Sorrows" in the live show. Hell, he may as well retire. It appears the other 4 have it all covered. They can just do their own beat boxing and loop it in for the live shows.
